All of this started back in early 2017 when I was in Serbia, Belgrade to create a photobook about the last and largest nongovernment controlled refugee camp in Europe. While working there, I lived in a small village thirty minutes’ drive away from Belgrade. This village was full of strays. I resided in a big truck on a parking lot. Not much time had passed as I noticed that the locals were treating these dogs in a rude way. I felt sorry for them and started to pet and feed them. After caring for them a little while, I could not go anywhere without being followed by them. At night, they slept under my truck. When I was about to open my truck door in the morning, almost a dozen dogs were already waiting for me, tail wagging, ready to follow me wherever I would go. At some point I even started to have struggles to get into my bus to Belgrade without them jumping inside right after me. Having finished my project there, it was a heartbreaking experience to leave these friendly creatures behind. From this moment on, I knew that strays deserve also people who care for them.
