I Show The Process Of Creating Mosaic Art With My Piece Named “Onshore Annie”

I love showing the process of creating a mosaic. In this piece “Onshore Annie” I document how each section is applied and the thought and details put into creating a unique piece of mosaic art. As an artist in Huntington Beach, CA I have found that I personally enjoy seeing how art is created by others and always find that much more work is put into the creative process than you would imagine. I love that people feel connected to the journey when I post work in progress photos and I invite them to join me along the way while I figure out what to do next within my work.

In the beginning..

I figure out what colors I want to use. This process continues throughout the entire time I work on a piece.

I leave room to change my mind.

It is not uncommon for me to change my mind during the process. Because I can. ;)

Add a twist to it.

I like to add colors that change things up.

Adding interest from every angle.

I used iridescent stained glass to add interest so when you walk past this piece on the wall the colors will change.

Hair complete.

On to the background.

Trying something different.

I loved the way this sheet of glass looked as is so I decide to challenge myself and cut it up and shape it around the hair. It was a challenge!

First things first.

Because I decided to use this glass for the background and keep it whole…I needed to shape around the waves first in this particular section.

Adding more interest.

I wanted to have a bright and bold one color for the sun but knew I needed to add interest to the andamento (the flow or pattern of the glass pieces) I put in a bit of a basket weave to break up this solid color.

Let the waves roll.

Putting in the waves with an appropriately named glass called “Sea Foam”.

More interest added in the sun rays.

Time to add grout!

Now can you see the pattern?

A closeup shows you after grout the pattern or andamento of the sun.

Finished!

“Onshore Annie” is a story about how I fell in love with living in Huntington Beach, CA and my time spent on the beach.
