My name is Christina Hess and I create my art from my orange sherbet painted studio in south Philadelphia. I paint, write, design and teach. I love food, animals, nature, and coffee. Lots and lots of coffee.
As a child I use to pour over my mother's extensive library, pulling each mystery and romance novel carefully off her wooden shelves, imagining what it would be like to paint each stroke of texture. That passion for creating stories through the aesthetics of paint have molded my career and life.
During weekends, I worked on thirteen oil paintings over the course of three years because I wanted to create another calendar featuring my art of historically inspired animals.

Perhaps it's nit-picking, but Bowie had two differently colored eyes. That aside, I'm impressed.

Thanks Sammy! When I was researching Bowie I read that he actually had the same colored eyes BUT one rarely dilated which gave the appearance of a darker eye. The calendar won't get printed unless it gets funded so I have time to make the one eye a bit darker! Thanks for your input!

These are so clever and the captions are the icing on the cake, love it. I went to your Etsy and your Lovecraft and Austen print is so awesome. I hope your project gets funded!

Thanks so much for your kind words, Kara! They were all painted different sizes. Some 5x7, 8x10, 11x14, & 16x20. Some were private commissions (Sinatra and Roverson) and the others are hanging in Ian Russell Gallery in Prescott AZ or on their way to Illuxcon in the next few weeks for the show. So....they are all split up and in different places!

p.s. I just re-read your story and that these are done in oil, I'm even more impressed than if they were digital. I'm curious, how large are the originals? And have you exhibited the originals anywhere?

Ideas are awesome and even though they are anthropomorphic characters, they must be inspired by true animals' personalities.
