I live in a tiny house in the woods with my hubby (who is also an artist) and sometimes our neighbor’s cat who seems to have adopted us. Making tiny art in my tiny house was kind of a natural convergence of what was exciting and what was practical. I paint with opaque watercolors on linen stretched in tiny embroidery hoops.
I don’t leave my tiny house much. I have FMS (fibromyalgia syndrome) and MCS (multiple chemical sensitivity) so I’m sensitive to pretty much everything. Chemicals, fragrances, strong smells, car exhaust, loud noise, bright light, sun exposure, extreme temperatures, crowds, etc. could all seriously ruin my weekend. I need to avoid any kind of over-stimulation. But I don’t feel stuck. I feel free because my imagination takes me wherever I could possibly want to go. I have always made art, it is completely central to who I am as a person. I use my art as a way to explore beyond my tiny environment and then share the spoils of my adventures. I call my home where I live and work the Tiny Island. I am isolated, but surrounded by beauty. It is a place of happiness, creativity, hope, and love. Everyone is welcome on the Tiny Island! I hope my tiny portals bring you joy.
