Hello! My name is Dmitrii Dionisopulos! I’m 24 years old, and one of the areas of my art is icon painting.

The icon is a window into eternity. It takes patience to execute an icon.

I will try to explain briefly about phases of work.

The creation of an icon begins with making wood. Then I put the natural glue on it with special technology. After that, I put the linen canvas (which was literally BOILED before) to prevent the shrinking of the wood. This is not for the faint of heart. Further, I make a ground of chalk and natural glue. The number of layers can reach 20, but the total width of the undercoat is about 1,8 millimeters.

Finally, I start painting after regrowing hands!

Icon painters use natural pigments like ancient Egyptians did (precious/semiprecious stones, minerals, clays, natural coloring).

I use the bonder of the egg yolk and white wine for egg yolk tempera. I mix the pigments with the bonder and start working. Finally, I wait about 2 months before varnishing.

I hope you’ll like my art. Tap on my Instagram for more details.
