Maybe tell one of your other friends to "spill" that secret in front of you both. Pretend to be mad and stuff, but look at him and see what he thinks. If it's awkward, just laugh and very sassily say "your welcome!!"

If you are really nervous, try starting out by just finding a way to hang out with him for a little while. Maybe you can meet for coffee or ice cream and spend an hour or 2 together. That can help break some of the nervousness, and if you are asking to hang out just the 2 of you, it gives an even stronger hint! If nothing else, just make yourself go for it and say the words! I did that with my crush in high school. She said she didn't like me, and it sucked, but then a year later, she said she really liked me and we dated for a few years. You never know what will happen!
