I go beach cleaning most weeks, and clean the trash. Then I make recycled creatures.
I made this puffin from fishing net, rope & line that I collected. I stitched it onto a wire frame. Even the eyes are recycled from pill packets.

Cheeky Puffin
Flotsam Selkie
I carved the selkie’s face out of driftwood, then added rope for her hair. In her seaweed hair, there is a seahorse, fish and sea anemones.
Polar Bear on a Plastic Milk Bottle
Recycled from fishing rope and net I collected off the beach, this polar bear needed a base, so I made him an iceberg from plastic milk bottles that I heated up, to shape into an iceberg.
Plastic Bottle Pufferfish
I made this wee guy from a soda bottle covered in fishing gear that I found. His eyes are throat lozenge packets, which I painted, mounted on metal bottled tops.
Hungry Mouths
This family took around a week to make. First I collected the trash from the beach, which I sorted and cleaned. Then I used it to make this little family group.
Narwhal
This cutie has a tusk made from recycled electrical wire.
Hummingbird
Mounted on a thin wire, this little guy loves to bounce around in the wind.
I beach clean most weeks, and we have 2 big beach cleans each year, where I live in the Scottish Borders.
On the last clean up, we collected over 1 tonne of trash in 2 hours. There were around 12 people.
Kingfisher
This cutie is made from blue fishing rope and net, the orange net is off a fruit bag. He is perched on driftwood, mounted on half a house brick which was painted blue.
Seatrash Seahorse
Made from fishing rope and driftwood
Sid Jetsam
Sid’s face is carved from driftwood, and his hair is upcycled cable ties. The beaches are covered in cable ties near me , often thrown away ; Jetsam. His necklace were bits found whilst beach cleaning.
I try to use as much beach trash as possible. His eyes are pill packets, which all my friends save for me to use to make eyes.
Pink Spoonbill
I found part of a smoking pipe on a beach clean, and immediately knew it would make a great spoonbill’s beak. Sometimes I find things and l know straight away what I will use them for.
Wading Bird
I used a hook off a lobster creel that I found, as the beak for this wading bird.
8.3 million tons of plastic are discarded in the sea each year. If we all collect trash off the beaches when we go, that’s a great start.
So come on everyone, let’s all do our bit to help our lovely oceans . Every little bit of rubbish collected helps. Thank you for reading this , and if you like these critters , there’s more on my website https://www.climatechangeart.co.uk/
Thank you Birgit, that's really kind of you to say :-)
