If the humans are sensible, why not along the fence as well ? I worry that the bricks will retain coldness in winter heat in summer and cause the eggs to fail ( aka die).

Excellent placement. People can watch the birds from here. Again presume you got the humans' permission?...people will complain about droppings and can be quite brutal in " fixing the mess" .
