Many artists have faced blank page syndrome where they sit on their desk staring at a blank piece of paper, unable to draw something. I often get those, which impedes my productivity to the point where I said to myself, “OK, that’s it, I have to find a cure.” So my art inspiration journey begins.
Then, one day I stumbled upon a few artists posting pencil sketch cards online. I was so fascinated by their cool art that I started to do a bit of research. After a few google-fu moves, I’m amazed that there’s a whole community dedicated to artist/sketch cards. Fortunately, I kept stacks of leftover watercolor paper from my recent commissions. About a hundred pieces of paper with size varied from 2″ x 2.5″ to 3″ x 5″.
I start playing with drawing ideas right away, doodling and scribbling on them. In just a few days, I’ve done dozens of small colorful paintings. It was definitely a rewarding experience. Drawing inspiration poured well, my creative energy level is over 9000, and I’m enjoying the whole process. Currently, I’m challenging myself on inktober doing two cards each day, to push my limit even further.
Long story short, I think the moral of my story here is to play, have fun, and try new things with your art. Rip a page, throw some paint, or maybe even break a vase. Start, play, finish, learn, improve.
Lastly, what do you usually do when you get the blank page syndrome? I appreciate it if you would like to share your strategies with everyone reading this.
Thank you so much for reading. I hope you will get something useful from this. See you soon!

Pandarocket
Sketch a panda. Remember Saiyan pod from DBZ. Ended up creating Pandarocket.
BullA’pork and Giganticus Swampticus
Morning coffee doodling a few weeks back. I always love creating creatures and monsters.
Dunnoman
A random masked vigilante concept.
Akahannya
Japanese mask and streetwear made a cool combination, right?
Air Jordan
A few weeks ago I saw a new Air Jordan has been launched and I just have to draw it.
Jimi Hendrix
One morning I want to draw an afro style hair, then I remember this iconic photo of the legend. Enough reasons to draw a piece.
Those nameless men
Seriously, I don’t have any backstories for them. I just want to draw cool character back then.
Sweep ’em Spidey
I drank my morning coffee and I thought “Spidey help sweeping the floor may be a funny drawing.”

Wow, that's awesome! I'm glad for you. Also, interesting artwork. Keep it up!
Load More Replies...These are terrific! One way I like to break a creative drought is to go completely random... instead of starting with a drawing in your mind, just spatter some ink or paint on the page. Smudge it around a bit. More often than not, you can see an image forming. Then start to refine that "found" image. I like doing that, and I also like drawing and painting on random scraps of cardboard or packaging β using the graphics printed on them as a launching off point. Always seems to shake off the cobwebs.
Those are interesting! You can also use a random magazine paper, cutting and pasting some images. I did the spatter as well, back when I'm in college. They are awesome! Thanks a bunch for sharing your moves here, cheers!
