I Made A Simple Spider Man Mask To Wear At Comic Conventions For My Husband.

My husband is a huge Spiderman fan and wanted a me to design and create a simple mask (with lots of space around the eyes) to wear for conventions without having to wear a full costume. He sells at our craft booth we usually have at conventions and a full outfit isn’t practical when talking to customers. This mask is so comfortable he didn’t even notice it was on and can hardly wait until the next convention to wear it! I started by making the template on my computer then cutting it out. I used scrap leather to create this piece but if you don’t have a huge stock of scrap the ideal weight is 5/6 ounce.

Video on how to make it!! The finish mask which can be painted different colors to represent the black suit or symbiote spiderman.

Tools and supplies – these are the basic tools needed to create your own mask. There are a couple of the expensive versions you don’t really need such as the industrial craft knife and the ceramic head swivel knife.

Tools and supplies – stretchy cord, a rotary punch and cord keepers. But you can use ribbon to tie your mask.

Supplies and template. I made the template on my computer and cut it out. I traced, with a pen, around the template. if you are doing a lighter dye or not painting it then you don’t want to use pen. Use a sharp tool to trace around it.

Supplies and dye – I went with red. But you can always just go black for an easy Venom costume mask.

Adding details to the mask. Add your lines for your spider web and any details for your mask. I used a rounded tool for doing clay sculpting for adding any details.

Shaping the mask – you can do this over your own face or over a mannequin. If you do it over your own face it will fit your face perfectly!

Dying the mask red. I added two coats of dye to this mask. For a darker red add one more coat with one or two drops of black dye.

Adding black around the eyes. I used acrylic paint around the eyes. I used a angled brush to create a sharp line around the eyes.

Sealing the mask- you can use any type of leather sealer. This brand or Supersheen works nicely!
