My mom passed away from a 3+ year fight against ovarian cancer almost 5 years ago. These comics are so true. People can be great to cancer patients...but they can also suck. A lot. One "friend" of my mom's didn't see her while she was on chemo but when she'd go into remission she would come around. A month before my mom died my mom called this "friend" hoping to see her since it had been a long time. The "friend" told her that it just was "too sad" for her to be around my mom since she was dying. It broke my mom's heart. At my mom's funeral guess who was the first person up to talk about how great my mom was and what great friends they were? Yup. It was her.

I LOVE these! I don't have cancer and thankfully no one in my immediate or extended family has had this either-maybe because I come from a nation that, up until now, has lived relatively chemical free (not this generation though-the next gen will be cancer ridden for sure). I love that these are funny but realistic because I had no idea how people actually felt. But some of the stuff in this is just straight up insensitive and it's unbelievable how stupid people can be. Wish there was a post on how to deal with someone who has cancer because I don't know what's 'okay' since I only see what's not. And "be sensitive and use common sense" doesn't always help.

I had ovarian and uterine cancer. The treatment went pretty smoothly, and within a year I was cancer free and looking for a job. I got hired at a restaurant chain, as a line cook. I had one coworker who tried to bully me into selling him my pain medicine. Which was fun. And had another who made fun of my lack of hair. When I started working there, it was about a half inch long. One day I was talking with someone about how I couldn't wait for my hair to be long again, when the guy walks up and with attitude, says "yea, why IS your hair so short, huh?" And I just deadpanned "I had cancer." And he walked off silently.

This is bringing the sad feels for me right now. :-( My step dad passed away 5 years ago from lung cancer, my mom passed away two years ago due to liver cancer (metastasized from her earlier fight with breast cancer), my oldest sister had breast cancer and now my other sister has lung cancer and it doesn't look good. I HATE CANCER!
