Hi there! I'm Catherine Holmes. I'm a British photographer based in New Zealand and for the last few years, I've been creating wild and unique/crazy images of animals, with a particular focus on cats.
Why cats, you ask? I did this because I thrive on the look of abject disappointment and disgust from my subjects.
I often found the pressure of photographing people quite stressful. Do they like me? Do they think I'm cool? Do they think I look like I know what I'm doing? When you work with cats, that pressure is off. They do not like you. They do not think that you look cool and they really couldn't care less if you know what you're doing. You are starting from zero. The pressure is lifted!
My love of the colder seasons, especially Halloween and Christmas, are often evident in my work. I live in an area of New Zealand that gets no snow. And being a Brit, I really really miss it. So I try and create it whenever I can. I also go a little nuts around Halloween (the most creative holiday of all!) so there's a hefty amount of ghosts and spookiness here.
Along the way, I've also worked with dogs and bunnies and more recently ducklings and mice. I'm hoping this year to expand out to even more animals (pleeease, somebody, find me a donkey!) but in the meantime, I thought I'd group together some of my work from the last few years. Enjoy.

I am Leonards owner, and I can assure you he is the king of high jumps and ninja kicks. Cathy would never risk an animal's safety for a photo, and I would never allow my animals to be harmed. Just FYI.
This is absolutely brilliant, ingenious and delightful. Especially the cat's wind-swept scarf! I just may have to copy this one and set it next to my computer. You are definitely a creative photographer, scene creator, and cat lover. Thanks for posting these.
