“I Love Nostalgia”: 35 Posts From The Past You Have To Be Old Enough To Get (New Pics)
Interview With OwnerRemembering the good old days is good for the soul. Sure, the feeling does have this bittersweet air to it: you might remember things fondly, but going back to that time and place is otherwise impossible. Unless you’re that time-traveling hipster.
But at least you can go there in spirit. Or with the power of the internet. But that’s still in spirit. Anywho, pages like I Love Nostalgia helps folks do just that, so dive deep into it by scrolling down through some of the best posts from the page, and be sure to read our interview with the founder of the page, Ian Wright.

I Can Hear The Echo Of The Ding…
You could beat someone to death with those phones. Uh, that's what I've heard...
Load More Replies...I still have a landline that I can slam down if I feel like it. It just doesn't make the ding any more. Still remember my parents' rotary phone from when I was a child - it was cream.
I have many at home here, my daily phones 20211009_1...635163.jpg
An app equivalent is needed for smart phones, something that when you end the call it sends a loud thud.
Besides the ring tone you get to choose, cell phones should also offer the hang-up tone of your choice.
Sometimes I get so mad I throw my cellphone 😆 it's not a good idea tho
I'm This Old
Oh my gosh, yes! That was pure 60's grade school. Plus the smell of fresh, pale, blue ink of mimeograph papers from the Ditto machine!
We had educational filmstrips with a separate recorded soundtrack that beeped to tell you to advance to the next image. And we liked it!
Just a kid. I was the projector nerd for the old 16mm Bell and Howell projectors.
The old TVs that, somehow, still existed in my middle school classrooms, doing nothing but collecting dust? Yep.
You Never Forget
Well that time I fell off my kickbike, badly scraped my knees, started bleeding profusely and broke a bone in my foot AND in my hand was a bit more painful. Will not tell you about my burst appendix (unrelated).
Load More Replies...I have permanently bumpier than normal shins due to these sodding things
My bumpy shins are from shaving my legs. My scarred, bumpy heels are from these cursed pedals
Load More Replies...The post is about nostalgia. We know bikes still exist, but now that we're adults, we may not ride our bikes much anymore and might not hit our shins with the pedal as often. Kids can be clumsy and adults might not be as clumsy as they were at 10 years old
Load More Replies...So, I Love Nostalgia is a page on X that celebrates all things old, but good. The page is a throwback to the past for multiple generations of people, covering things from the '60s all the way through to the aughts.
The page has been around since mid 2011 and, as of this listicle, it boasts a bit over 336,000 followers.
"The community is happy and avoids politics and religion," Ian Wright, the creator of the page, told Bored Panda. "It’s just about happy memories. It’s a nice space in social media where division is forgotten."
Mine
I used yo have like two or three ,mines not my parents. Also had one of this ones that have to noisy bells upside and you had to spin a thing to work, every day 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
My mom recently asked me to buy her an alarm clock because she has had enough of using her phone for alarms. Idk where to even find a good alarm clock in this day and age because most of the digital clocks available nowadays that have alarm features are usually not loud enough to serve any useful purpose given that the alarm feature is never really used anymore.
go to goodwill or any thrift store. they usually have the ones like this.
Load More Replies...Not mine, they had a wind-up Baby Ben alarm clock. I had one like this, though.
Who Knows What This Is?
Anyone remember when there was a button on the floorboard to turn the headlights on bright? I remember vaguely a Cadillac that had that feature.
When you got left in the car for ages with your brothers, it was the only entertainment!
I don't mean it in an abusive way- rather in a kids that burn themselves way
Load More Replies...Who remembers the sensation of being a kid and putting a finger in the hole? *puts hand up*
Bed Time…
You've been down my mum's blanket chest! They're even the same colors.
Anybody here ever slept under one of those olive drab-colored Army-Navy Surplus blankets? Talk about itchy, but they were warm if you made sure you at least had a sheet between you and it. There were five kids in our family, and my father was an Army vet, so we all had those blankets on our beds.
Here in Italy are brown with a couple of stripes and you can find them in every oratory, church, school, social centre, barrack, etc.
Load More Replies...Last time I slept under one of these was in hospital after life saving surgery in Belarus one of the times I worked over there.
I had to go to the hospital in Belarus and I would be terrified to have surgery there.
Load More Replies...I was born in the early 2000s so these items on the list were still in use when I was really little. These things jog really early memories. Very sweet
Layering several thinner blankets, instead of one big comforter, is still more comfortable for sleeping to me. Too hot - peel off a layer.
Ian explained that the page was born out of posting '80s content on the regular and it got a very big reaction. "It’s a thrill getting lots of replies and follows," explained Ian.
The page features all sorts of content, ranging from pictures and videos to memes to engaging question tweets (oh wait, posts, got it) and quizzes, encouraging folks to take part in the nostalgia as a community.
Who Knows What These Are For?
On side, yes. The other side? No...at least not in the UK. All I can think about when I think of the other side is the old big cans of Hawaiian Punch!
Load More Replies...It's called a "Church Key". One end for bottles, one end for steel cans. Formally used for opening cans of beer, most used now for large cans of juice.
Are You?
We’ve still got one at home for the less energetic elderly... They only know the green button to take calls and speed dials, 1 for dad, 2 for pharmacy(a family friend in case of medical need) , 3 for their most talked person... Varies from person to person, We've got 4 such elderlies living the sweet life in their 80s and 90s. That's all.
One of these was actually at work in our hometown, grandparents' house. xuuycQ3.png
I turned the lever, operator answered. I asked for my great aunt, and got connected; not a number given, not even name.
Are You This Old?
Still feel nauseous at the thought of being trapped in the fug of my parents' smoking on the bench seat in the family station wagon... As I struggled in the back with the windows shut as not to let in the cold air.
Ash trays everywhere, every room of the house, every building private and public, just goddamn everwhere!
While nostalgia might seem like any other feeling that we as humans experience, it’s more than just memories.
Nostalgia is heavily linked to the hippocampus (no, it’s not a campus full of hippos, checked it, was disappointed too), the ventral striatum, and the substantia nigra/ventral tegmental areas—big-brain terms for having something to do with memories and rewards.
Watching This Lot On A Saturday Morning
And the original Scooby Doo, Superfriends, Inch High Private Eye, Grape Ape, the Star Trek animated series, the Pink Panther, Tom and Jerry...six hours of sugary cereal fueled marathon cartoon watching until wrestling came on at noon.
Sylvester has no tail in the marching thing near the end. We always yelled about it.
"Much Ado About Nuttiin'" - best WB cartoon EVER! And not a single main character.
Bugs Bunny/Road Runner Hour after school while Mom was making supper.
Do You Remember Proper Fairy Lights?
I have always much preferred the old fashioned large bulbs on my Christmas trees. I also have bubble lights which are incredibly cool, and lights shaped like candles. I don’t do “designer” Christmas trees. Mine has a mix of old and new ornaments, ornaments that were given to my husband and I as gifts (mostly Hallmark, and mostly to each other), distinctive handmade ornaments I chose for their uniqueness, as well as ornaments I made myself. Everything on the tree has meaning and a story. It tells the history of us, and is a reflection of who my family and I are—-and we are definitely not something someone else designed, meant strictly for show and too often just “keeping up with the Joneses”, all of which has no relation to who we actually are.
Also old school, we used these GE C7 'Lighted Ice' bulbs in the '70s: Capture-65...ae8a27.jpg
These are "next gen" compared to the ones my parents had burning up the tree... Not actual candles, though.
What Would Be An Equivalent Modern Day Disaster To This?
With a little patience you could fix the VHS tape without buying new tape. Try that with your shattered phone screen.
Load More Replies...Video (or photo) files corrupting. Happened to mine because the camera quite literally decided it was too cold to function.
Updating routers is a precarious game to begin with...
Load More Replies..."In my personal experience being born in 1972, I began to think about nostalgia when I turned 30," elaborated Ian about when nostalgia begins. "I started playing lots of '80s songs. I think nostalgia really becomes a much bigger thing when you realize you’re truly ‘adulting it’ in life. House, mortgage, kids, work, work, work. You long for the beautiful simple days of your youth. For the real nostalgia to kick in, I’d say 20-30 years."
"I post some 2000s nostalgia as the kids born say in 1990 who are 30 now are getting nostalgic. For 2010s, I’d say it’ll be 2030+, fully kicking in 2040."
Who Is Your Favorite 80s Scientist?
Yup. Venkman certainly wasn't the scientific mind of the bunch !
Load More Replies...Where's Beekman? Guess that's early 90s, but c'mon, Beekman deserves some love.
Anyone else remember Bill Nye? I remember watching the videos in science class high school anyways
Before Crocs We Had These…
And they were nit near as comfortable as cross. Blisters. Blisters everywhere
If You Know What This Actually Is, When Was The Last Time You Used One?
I used one last around 2006/07 when I worked in Waitrose at school. Loved using them and had one guy (famous old doctor who doctor) who would spend a small fortune but his cheque limit was £500 (think that was maximum anyway) so when he had parties we had to use it 3-4 times at once and split the transaction up. Loved using it so many times in a row, so satisfying
Ok, you can't say "famous old doctor who doctor" and not give Whovians more details. Doctor WHO???? Give us a number, a description, anything, but give us something! Haven't we been through enough these past few years without seemingly innocent Internet comments ripping out the sutures of our slowly mending hearts and causing us to bleed anew?? Have you no mercy??? It's Christmas, for crying outloud!!

2004? When the tills went down at blockbuster - old school card reader
That's not what this is. These were used to do credit card sales. Customer card goes on the bottom right, you set the price the customer is going to pay on the dial, drop the credit slip over it. Then run the slide right, and left. Customer gets the white copy, store gets the yellow, card company gets the middle red paper.
Load More Replies...Same, same time frame as well. Full service "wash your windshield, check your oil sir/ma'am?"
Load More Replies...I received a new debit card from my credit union with raised numbers in the mail last year. I went in and asked if they had carbon paper to go with it.
Being on the brink of 2024 right now, it won't take long for 2030 to arrive and a new decade will be added to the page. So, what would that new decade of nostalgia entail?
"The 2010s was a decade of struggle, hate, retribution and massive division," explains Ian. "Trump, Brexit, #Metoo, austerity and over sensitivity. I’m biased obviously. If one is talking of nostalgia, all that goes out of the window. People remember with nostalgia the good things."
"It was the age of streaming music and TV. The birth of TikTok and silly dances. Snapchats and Roblox. It’s a very digital time."
Have You Ever Slept In A Waterbed?
I had a waterbed my entire childhood until I was a teen The required maintenance is wild
What maintenance? You just fill it up and make sure you don't pop it
Load More Replies...Once and really didn't like it. Maybe it's an acquire taste, but I found the feeling strange and unnerving. Also, the splooshing sound every time you move makes you want to pee the whole night long.
you must've had a free-flow mattress. you can get semi-waveless or waveless and that isn't an issue.
Load More Replies...I loved my waterbed!!! It was the simple kind, no heater, not waveless. I put a foam pad on it in the winter time, and it was super warm and cozy. In the summer i would used a thin blanket under the sheets, and the coolness of the water kept me cool during hot summer nights. You could move your ankles a bit and rock yourself to sleep. If you got the right rhythm, other activities required less effort. The only bad thing was when i spilled chocolate milk between the mattress and the frame.
I slept in one at a friends house a few times during sleepovers. When I was a teenager, my boyfriend and I tried to have sex on one and it was the only time we attempted to do that on a waterbed. Awkward doesn't even begin to describe it and we ended up on the floor next to the bed.
Took a certain rhythm. Darn bed had its own rhythm, so you had to adapt.
Load More Replies...Girlfriend had one... not as cool for you know what as you might think.
If You Know What This Is You're Old Just Like Me
Orange = sport; Brown = literature; Green = science and nature; Pink = entertainment; Blue = geography; Yellow = history

Load More Replies...Phones Used To Be Cool
I gave mine to my grandneice and grandnephew. They almost began looking around for the spaceship that delivered it.
Load More Replies...The top left was never cool. My mother had it in her room, and anytime anyone picked up the phone elsewhere in the house to use the phone it blinked. I could never sneak phone calls especially in the middle of the night.
Omg you never had a sneak call....your mom was also hearing it hahahahahhswh
Load More Replies...I have to agree with you Ace. Loved more bakelite ones s**t I m old....
Load More Replies...Wanna use them these days? Commit a crime and be sent to prison- most of their stuff like this is see-through.
I still love see through tech. Don't think I will ever stop. I remember looking at my see through camera, in aw of all the little bits and pieces inside.
The clear plastic let you see how crappy they were made. I was surprised they worked.
Folks experience nostalgia differently, with the two main categories being the sociality view and the maladaptation view.
The first one is about the social aspect of nostalgia—folks who relive meaningful memories in the context of being social. The latter ties in with depression and emotional instability that comes from an individual’s inability to cope with adulting.
We feel nostalgic whenever it is triggered by a thing or a situation that we associated with a certain experience in our lives. It renews appreciation for the past and sparks optimism regarding the future. And while it can signify that a person is not all that happy about the present, there is a lot of benefit in it.
I Don’t Think We Had Calpol But We Did Have That Yellow Stuff…
it was supposed to be banana flavour but they got it mixed up with vomit flavour
I had cherry flavour Terramycin, I can eat a fresh cherry but cherry flavoured stuff absolutely not
Load More Replies...I used to refer to it as 'banana ear medicine' because I was always on it for ear infections. I actually really liked the taste
I only ever saw creamy-white or bright pink amoxicillin, it didn't taste too bad
You Can Almost Taste The Paper And Wax!
You waited until after your drink was gone?
Load More Replies...But somehow my mouth is watering for an ice-cold Coke in a cup like this. I swear I can taste it.
We are probably going back to wax cups, because at least they break down in the landfill.
This just brought back a strong memory of working at the snack bar at the little league complex. Mixing Coke, orange soda, root beer and Sprite for the kids. Then eventually watching the softball dads use them as spitters for their chewing tobacco.
You flatten it out and rub it on the slide so you can slide down faster
dude that wax was so weird i always had to wipe it from my lip if i subconsciously bit it cause it has an addicting texture you just wanted to bite, but it was gross
Knife Like This
Still have the one my mom bought... must be almost fifty years old now, but still works.
Mine still has hers... We use it every year to carve Christmas roast...
On an emotional level, nostalgia can lead to higher levels of optimism, inspiration, self-esteem, and a sense of purpose. It also has the added bonus of helping relieve stress in otherwise overwhelming situations.
In terms of behavior, nostalgia can be a good motivator, in both actually inspiring you to do something and pushing you to act upon that inspiration. The feeling often motivates folks to do something that is directly connected to what they’re nostalgic about. For example, being nostalgic about how healthy a person was in the past might just lead to increased physical activity.
Unless You Were There In 1982, You Can't Even Imagine How Cool This Setup Was
Yep one of the best on the 2600. Along with River Raid, HERO, and Adventure.
Load More Replies...I bought an Atari in 1981 for $137 US...would be about $450 today. Game were $34, or just over $100 today.
Atari just released a new HDMI version of the original called 2600+ a few days ago. $130 including a 10-in-1 game. Purported to play 'most' of the original games as well! https://atari.com/products/atari-2600-plus

My sister had a commodore 64 in the 80s. I can still hear the noise it made whilst loading a game. Seemed to take forever
Both joysticks? Sweeet! I always took mine with me when I went to my friends house so we wouldn't have to switch the cord between players. No one's system ever seemed to have two for long. Not sure why.
What Temperature Did These Used To Get Served At?
The McDonald's I used to frequent had two temperatures for their apple pies: ice cold and blister-your-tongue hot...usually in the same pie.
You?
Best anti theft device possible. Needs to be installed in cars now.
Load More Replies...I wanted (and got) a Chevy Malibu...(A 1964 in 1968). Last time I saw it, it was raised....
Saw one the other day. Pulled past and realized it was a lovingly restored classic. I feel old.
Nostalgia also includes an element of social cognition—it can push someone to resolve interpersonal issues, reconnect with old friends, prioritize relationships, what have you.
In general, nostalgia is capable of empowering socially-oriented feelings that are key to us as social beings.
Lastly, nostalgia fosters creativity. One study shows that the influence of nostalgic feelings while writing has actually allowed the writers to come up with more creative prose. Nostalgia allows people to approach experience more openly and increase their levels of creativity.
Do You Know?
It's a meat tenderiser. There's a couple just like this in the kitchen where I work.
There’s one exactly like this in my home kitchen right now.
Load More Replies...Exactly. I have one that I use to tenderize chicken cutlets for making a chicken parm sub.
Load More Replies...These are still used to tenderise meat. I used mine 2 days ago for beef in stir fry
C'mon they didn't stop making those nor did people stop using them.
What Are We Playing?
Altered beast!!!!!outrun, etc etc etc . S**t I think onion ninjas are here..,:)
No idea what it was called, I think it was about late70's early 80's (Yes I'm old) it was like that sliding block/number puzzles but had train track on it, you had to move the pieces to get the moving train to pick up passengers at stations on the edge of the screen if you were slow a ghost train would come after you and you'd lose a life. I've tried looking for it online but I can't find it listed.
How Many TV Channels Did You Have As A Kid?
I was born in 1957, so PBS wasn't there at first. They started on November 3, 1969.
Load More Replies...ABC, CBS, NBC, and PBS. If you lived close enough to a city, there might also be an independent channel or two. If you lived in the boonies, you were lucky to get anything, unless the wind was blowing the right direction and the planets aligned just right.
Four: 2 (CBS) 4 (ABC) 11 (NBC) and if you were desperate 13 (PBS) - Pittsburgh, PA
4. Channel 5 launched by the Spice Girls in 1997 but even then not every TV received it clear enough to watch.
4 and you always got the Star Spangled Banner followed by a test pattern at midnight.
We asked Ian what would be the one thing he'd bring back from the past if he could. He went with mischievous fun. "Everyone is too sensitive today and you can easily get into trouble."
We'd also like to extend this question to you, dear Pandas: what would you bring back from whatever decade you feel nostalgic about? Share your answers in the comment section below!
My Childhood…
I pity the fool who doesn't have the power of grayskull! Thundercats, ho!
He was around the late 70s it seems because my brother had him.
Load More Replies...She Ra figures were badly made he man were much more durable. I still have my catra though
Load More Replies...Did You?
I still have Pegasus! He's been banned from being used in the microwave (also the only one we fought my mom on about throwing away).
I still own the orange and purple ones. I use them as my "I'm giving you food, return my super cool plate" because either it's so distinct that they remember, or they like it a lot and have stolen themselves something really cool.
I worked at McDonald's when they had these plates. I was working in drive-thru and an older gentleman came through and ordered his food and then one of the plates, and then added at the end but I don't want my food on the plate. Like no kidding dude have you ever gotten food on a plate at mcdonald's?
What’s Your Handle?
My handle was Eager Beaver...and I was young enough not to get joke.
Electric Rabbit, which sounded cool. Now I think my naive 10-year-old self was talking to truckers as a vibrator.
Ok, I just spit my drink out at this one!! And possibly woke up someone in the house from laughing!
Load More Replies...I've still got one I use for long trips. My handle is Heartbreaker. I met my late husband over the CB.
HareTrigger. My radio had a sticker of a deranged rabbit on the side, so I came up with the name. Plus it sounded like something out of "Top Gun"
Never had one, but my best friend's dad was a trucker and he used the CB to keep in touch - his handle was Yogi Bear.
Maingwr here . Salutes Yogi Bear station :)
Load More Replies...And don’t forget that there’s more where that came from, and by that, we mean that Bored Panda has another article about it, and if you haven’t gone through your post view limit on X, go nuts with the I Love Nostalgia X page.
I Am Still Unimpressed With Paper Hats
You want a balloon, Hawkmoon? Don't you want one? You do want one! You want one!! You do!!! 🎈 🤡🎈
Load More Replies...Although a disturbing amount of people now make them out of tinfoil
I used to make pressman's hats all the time to keep the hair out of my eyes. Now, with the loss of broadsheets, you can't make them any more. Too small.
That's because it needs to be made of tinfoil to block the alien transmission from entering your brain. These days those only people who believe 5G is controlling our minds wear them.
Did Your Family Have This Ornament?
Yup, have one on the kitchen sill right now. Cream w/ green dots
Load More Replies...Ours had yellow marble eyes. I grew up with it and took it with me when I moved out in my own - and broke it in a few months.
What Are These?
Controllers for slot car racing. Used to have a large HO scale track at our house. Such fun.
Don't pull too hard or your car will fly right off the track in the corner...
Which Ones Did You Have?
OMG SAME! Damn good phone! Also you felt like Captain Kirk when you used it.
Load More Replies...Motorola Star Tac was one of the best phones ever made. Also, the old Motorola Razor flip phone.
A large heavy bag with a handset that weighed about as much as a brick plus the antenna they mounted in my parents car. Circa 1976?
Started with the Star-Tac in 2001. Had several other on the list since then, but I don't remember which or when.
I think mine was a Nokia. Indeed one of my first mobile phones had this kind of an antenna
Do You Miss Toffo?
The copper used to make toffee at the Rowntree Mackintosh in Norwich is now the font in Norwich cathedral. Not sure if it was used specifically for Toffos as they had other factories. Worth a visit.
Britain c.1970-90. Mackintosh version, anyway.

Its a dance called "oops upside your head" done to the song of the same name by Gap Band where you sat on the floor and swung your arms back and forth. Search youtube for "oops upside your head dance" and you'll find an example.
Looks remarkably similar to what we used to do to "I am sailing".

Fray Bento pies? Common, these are still hugely popular in the UK (and not all that bad.)

Cherry Cocacola
Used to get cherry coke at a drug store lunch counter, where the syrup was mixed in by hand. How old did I say I was? I didn't
Everyday, after school at the Woolworth's lunch counter - cherry coke and hot fries!
Load More Replies...Heeeeeey cherooooookeeeee. I loved cherry coke but lasted here like few months :(
Then you should consider to buy them from Amazon or similar...I LOVE »Red Bull Cola« but it's not sold in my town, so I order it online......if you ever stumble upon »Dr. Pepper«, you should try it as an alternative...🦷🤷🏽🦷
