During the later stages of my pregnancy I was told that I would be delivering my son earlier and that he would not survive. I listened to his heartbeat all night long on the monitor and by day light the doctors and nurses were telling me to push as I refused. Nature took over and my son was born. He never took a breath.
Once I got home from the hospital I immediately went to his room. When I walked into the room, the first thing I saw was my son’s bassinet and the tears just fell. Then, to my surprise, I saw this little white kitten curled up in a little ball fast asleep in the bassinet.
A few months prior to this my cat had 4 kittens and the one curled up in the baby bed was her little boy kitten who was born deaf.
I lifted him out of the bassinet to carry him out of the baby’s room and noticed that it felt good to hold him in my arms, he was warm and didn’t resist being held at all. I carried him to my room as I was exhausted. I laid with him on the bed and started crying like I had never cried before and I fell asleep. I woke up to realize that this kitten is licking my dried tears. We had a long night that night, but I wasn’t alone and my arms were not empty.
He has followed me every day since.

In the hardest moments of my life I made a friend that would become my rock – Mikey
During my pregnancy I was told that I would be delivering my son earlier and that he would not survive. I delivered him in the hospital not long after. He never took a breath
When I came home, the first thing I saw was my son’s bassinet and the tears just fell. Then I saw this little white kitten sleeping in the bassinet
My cat just had 4 kittens and the one curled up in the bed was her boy kitten who was born deaf
I laid with him on the bed and started crying like I had never cried before and I fell asleep. I woke up to realize that this kitten is licking my dried tears
That moment I knew I had to help him. I spent countless hours researching his deafness as he sat on top of my monitor
I was stepping slowly out of the darkness and with each step I took, Mikey stepped with me
When I look at him, I don’t see a pet, I barely see a cat or an animal. What I see is this beautiful soul who chose to be my friend when I really needed one
I became a photographer because of Mikey’s beautiful face, captivated by his loving heart
Today he is 12 years old, he has become a part of who I am. Our lives now are full of joy and laughter

They really are. The timing of my friendship with Mikey has proven that to me.Thank you.

Aaaaaah you brought tears to my eyes!! Not even joking, I'm typing through blurry vision :) This is beautiful! He looks just like my boy. We rescued him and had him for 2 years. Unfortunately he passed away totally suddenly and without cause. But as another post says, they might be angels. I was so devastated. I have had many cats, and I love them all, but he was really special. And I lost him. I was remarkably devastated for a long time after, and he came to me in a dream, as an angel. Bright beautiful white glowing light, wings and all. He told me that he was only here for a short while, to make my life a little better! Isn't that wild! :) I have never believed that animals are angels in any way, until that dream forced me to. I still don't believe they all are, but some must be. Just like your little guy! Who is an angel to help you through the trauma of losing a baby! How so very sweet. You're also a remarkable person yourself! All the best! <3
Thank you. One day, Mikey was staring out one of our windows and I was wondering what he was looking at. My then 4 year old Daughter Haley said to me in the most matter fact way "He is watching the Angels fly Mom" and then she said "Cats are the only ones who can see them"
Load More Replies...My nephew lives with me and he is 26 and has PTSD and Autism spectrum disorder as do I. If it wasn't for his cat and my 2 cats, I don't think I would have made it this far in life, and I'm sure my nephew wouldn't have either. My cats have seen me through the death of my mother, my father, and my brother plus several friends. I'm sure animals are much, much smarter than we humans give them credit for. I'm so glad that you have your fur baby and that he helped you through a horrible time. Thank you so much for sharing your story (I also lost a baby) with all of us. Blessings to you, Jennifer!!
It was traumatic losing my son but I had time with him afterwards, to hold him to say Hello and Goodbye. It was painful but I would endure it all over again just to hold him one more time... As for Mikey, he has been by my side for 12 years now and though he may not be tall enough for me to lean on, he always seems to hold me up.
Load More Replies...Totally beautiful story thank u , after I had a break down and tried to take my life my partner at the time bought home a kitten .. I see her as my first baby she didn't leave my side through such a dark time xxxx
Animals have healing power for sure. After I lost my son, I wasn't sure if I could even wake up again, Mikey gave me a reason. He is my best friend.
Load More Replies...He is gorgeous. Your pics of him are gorgeous. And your story put something in my eye.
Thank you so much. I am convinced his beauty all comes from that heart of his...it just radiates from him.
Load More Replies...He's special, I can feel it. I have three beautiful friends (they are cats, but to me, they're not animals, they are real friends), two boys and 1 girl, and their souls are magical, I know it. They are always with me when I feel blue, or when I've had a bad day, when I want earth to swallow me. But then, they stand next to me, and purr, and touch my arms with their little heads, staring me, and I feel better. As Commentary Fortytwo has said: they're angels.
I understand. In this crazy busy world we live in...Mikey brings me peace. Thank you.
Load More Replies...I have 3 "sons" Molly, Milly and Menino, they are the sons that i never had, i Love them with all my heart and now i am not with them because i cant :( but my EX loves them just like i do and she is an Angel to them :) They are everyday in my mind and in my lips and they live in my heart!
These are the most beautiful cat photos I've ever see. Mikey is of course a beautiful cat, and your pictures of him are outstanding: capturing the softness, the color, the curves, the fine whiskers, the stunning eyes that are so warm..... Thank you
He is a stunning handsome cat, your story made me cry. I feel the same about my three cats, there are not so much animals are they are most perfect friends.
We got our little dog just after our daughter was stillborn. She died in October and he was born in September and came home with us when he was 8weeks. He has seen all of us through a very hard two years...I have never met a more gentle and loving soul. We all caught anger and he makes it go awat with his beautiful , patient , questioning gaze and velvet ears.
Beautiful story, and amazing lovely cat. I know, not just a cat... My dear cat lived with me 17 years, and He gave my life back. (You can find a pic, about him, in my post.) I wish you many more happiness with this miracle!
Animals are so loving, they save many people in many ways. I would never survive without a dog, my boy Auggie is now two and is constantly by my side.
This made me cry and reminded of the story and me and my beautiful black cat Katzie. She passed away a couple fo years ago, but she has never left my side, there isn't a day when I don't miss her. When I was little I suffered from insomnia / bad nightmares she was the one who cured me, my constant companion.
Such a beautiful story!!! The photos take my breath away. Angels are often disguised as animals...
Mikey is absolutely gorgeous and your pictures of him tell 1000 words. Isn't amazing when animals can understand and feel your pain more than a human ever could? I'm glad that he was there to comfort you and that you have had 12 wonderful years together...I hope you have many more.
Mikey is the key to your heart and soul, as well as Mikey being exquisitely beautiful....great photography too.
Oh what a beautiful story. I am so sorry for the loss of your child. This cat looks exactly like a little boy someone left at the end of my driveway. I called him white kitty. He was an unexpected love. Sadly he only lived for one year and I miss him terribly. He was so loving. These pictures are so nice. Thank you.
Thank you so much. And I am sorry for your loss as well.

Oh Jennifer. I'm so sorry for your loss, but so glad you had a friend to be with you. I had a kitty who knew when I was sad, and he would get in my face and meow at me until I had to pay attention to him and not my misery. I truly believe they know when we need them, just like Commentary FortyTwo said below - Mikey obviously knew you needed him. :) You're both beautiful!

Mikey is a beautiful soul indeed...clear to see in the photographs and story!
And people say cats are cold, cats are disloyal, cats would leave your home in a heartbeat if they found somewhere better. They couldn't be more wrong could they? I've got 5 of them & even though I live on my own, I am never alone because of these adorable furry children. They give me a reason to get up in the morning & if there's one thing I am sure of it's that we all grow & evolve spiritually together, which we couldn't do apart.. I love that this gorgeous cat helped someone who was rock bottom & really in need to cope with such a devastating loss.Thank you so much for sharing your story with us <3 <3 <3
People who say those things are indeed wrong. Mikey is so in tune with me and my emotions....it's almost scary sometimes how he knows. Thank you.

My heart feels for losing a child.. yet, my heart smiles for a place in her heart was filled by a sweet and loving Soul.. Cats can be just what our hearts need at a certain time in life.. I love how this turned out for her.. love is love xo
absolutely gorgoues cat though sooo beautiful. you are an amazing photographer
i cried alot. this is so beautiful. oh my god i will never forget this story you shared
My rescue kitty saved me when I lost my baby. He sure is an a hole but he's also my little angel. I was so alone and devastated at the time, I know I'd have died if I hadn't found a cat to love.
Sometimes, it is tragedy that opens our souls to our connection with the other animals with whom we share the planet. When we are aching and vulnerable, we drop the facade of dominance and superiority that too often, too sadly, cuts us off from the rest of the natural world. At those times, a kinship that transcends words and labels can begin to heal us. We develop a serenity and strength that we can draw on the rest of our lives.
beautiful story :) my mother in law has a male cat just like yours (same race - maine koon i think?? - and deaf) His name is Moulan. He is also a macho and a brave cat (he does not stay inside for long, Moulan likes very much to stay outside). He's 7 years this month, and he's great.
So, so glad you found a sweet friend to help you! They are truly gifts from heaven. What would we do without them? And your photography is BEAUTIFUL! !!
Since all these beautiful pictures are NOT of the same cat, I would like to know which one is Jenny's Mikey. It doesn't matter at all, I'm simply curious. You're a great photographer, Jenny -- you capture the Essence of Cat.
What a wonderful story and he is such a beautiful cat. You were there for each other. Can't be better than that.
What a beautiful cat and so wonderful that he became your best friend at a time in your life when you needed one. You are a great photograper - gorgeous photos of the cat!!!
So sorry for your loss. I KNOW what you have gone through. Blessings for our survival. My faith pulled me through.
This tiny soul reached so deeply into your soul at exactly the right time. Every time I look into an animals eyes I see a soul. I have two cats and one rescued dog. Jennifer I am so sorry for your loss. =^..^=
The power of pets is amazing. Reading this made me think so much of my cat Spookie, who happens to be the same age as Mikey and even looks a lot like him, except that she's black. She just randomly appeared in the barn on day. Still had blue eyes. We had to feed her with an eye dropper. Grew up with her, my other remaining cat, and two boy cats. Couldn't have asked for better cats. Or pets in general. Had some pretty awesome dogs too. Glad that Mikey found you. He is gorgeous.
May I post some of these photos on my I Love Animals page on FB? They're just so beautiful.

This profile picture is of my sweet Punkin, a rescue kitten barely able to walk when he was found abandoned by his mama. I had just moved across country after having lost the best friend I ever had. My sweet Huey, a Himalayan flame point I was given because no one wanted him. He live to be 19 years old. I believe he has come back as my Punkin so it seems, as I have raised Punkin from a bottle and she is now 6 years old. I guesswhat I am trying to say is, these sweet, perfect kittens are more to us than sometimes we even know. They get us through thick and thin with such sweet love and affection. I was never able to have children but somehow they have become my center in life. I love my baby kitties :)
