Hi there, my name is Kat, and I am a delivery driver by day and a comic artist any other moment I'm not at work!

The pandemic threw many things in my life off balance. I've lost friends, taken a blow to my mental and physical health and so many things are just not the same anymore.

Since then, I've crawled out of the dark haze of depression to create...cats! Cute little kitty cats that are oh so round and loveable! Don't you just want to squish them?

Let me introduce to you Sugar and Coffee the cats. They love each other very much. They are also the culmination of all of my tenacity to hang on to everything good and pure when times were at their extreme lowest.

I hope they make your day better because they sure do make mine better whenever I get to draw them!

Often, when I go out on my daily delivery route, I don't have breakfast. I'm usually in a bit of a rush to get out the door! So what I usually do is grab a coffee and some quick, easy sugary treats to tide me over until I get home. I often feel tired, so sugar and coffee are great energy boosts for me. A while back, I noticed how this was a sort of trend of mine. Sweet things also helped me through the pandemic. When I created Sugar and Coffee, I thought, 'why not name them after the two things that have helped keep me going at work?'. And the reason they're cats is that my Granny (who lives with me) absolutely adores cats. She's had them since I was little, and every time I would visit, I could watch a movie, draw, and hang out with her cats.

I have always loved to draw, since I was a child doodling on napkins at Applebee's or my mother's brand new white tile floor (sorry mom, it looked like paper). I have also always been an animal lover who adores cute creatures! Seeing Sugar and Coffee's cute little faces after trudging in from a long day of work in the searing heat or icy cold makes my day. My scheduled comic uploads to my Instagram account have also made me better at managing my time and got me out of my own head, thinking more about, 'what will Sugar and Coffee do next?'. I lost a good friend and coworker earlier this year, and since then, things have felt very strange, but having Sugar and Coffee to come home to has helped brighten my view of life and helped me move forward with hope.

A lot of my inspiration for SugarCoffeeCats comics comes from my real life! Little things I hear people saying to each other, tiny acts of love, hilarious things my own parents say aloud, and anything that catches my attention that I feel fits with their story. I find that it's the little moments in life that can really shape my entire outlook on each day. One example is actually from me. I'm not the best at remembering things once I've gotten into another project, so things like laundry can be easily forgotten until hours later when... oops! I just remembered I still have a load of laundry waiting to go in the dryer that's been sitting there for way too long. It sure is nice to see that I'm not the only one who does this!

Sugar and Coffee are so round and squishy because... well, I love cute round animals! I wanted them to look soft and loving, like cute little cotton balls. Even at 30 years old, I still walk into shops at my local mall and fall in love with all the cute, round, squishable plush toys on the shelves. I can't help it! I also have a habit of hugging said stuffed animals at night. Psst, it's okay not to grow up toooo much.

In the future, I would love to create a comic book and all sorts of adorable merchandise for SugarCoffeeCats! It's been a huge dream of mine since I was around 13 to be the owner of my own business. When I was younger, all of my friends just happened to end up as kind store owners. I always admired the way they worked for themselves and did what they loved for a living. I love to create, and I hope that in the future, I will be able to bring SugarCoffeeCats to all kinds of amazing places! The sky's the limit!

I work from home, and a variation of this happens Every. Damned. Time. (I’m actually working, instead of just scrolling, time somehow just flies, and I realize the clothes either need to go into the dryer or come out and be folded. Same outcome, different path.)

I'm sending this to my husband, whom I often physically tackle while yelling "I LOVE YOUUUU" 😂

I’m reminded of a poster from sometime in the late sixties to early seventies that said something along the lines of “Sometimes I sit and think, and sometimes I just sit”.
