I Create Multi-Layered Miniature Paintings On Cut Paper

I am a fantasy illustrator with an eye for detail and a lot of patience. My miniature paintings are 2″X2″ and fit inside vintage pocket watches.

Young Unicorn

I paint each piece with a wash of watercolor, then build up the opaque gouache to finish the painting. I then cut each layer and space them apart to show depth.

Young Kirin

Some pieces, like this one, get cut and layered before painting. I cut and glued all of the body scales first, then the neck, and the head last.

Reef Dragon

This piece required a lot of tiny fish, each about the width of a pencil eraser. The angelfish are slightly larger, but not by much.

Forest Dragon

I use watercolor paper for the creatures so I can fully paint them without the paper warping. For smaller items that don’t require much paint I can use construction paper.

Eastern Dragon

I finish each piece by encasing it in a vintage pocket watch: the perfect frame for a miniature painting!
