I Shoot Squirrels In My Backyard, And I Can Almost Make A Living From What I Love

Some years ago I started to take photos from my kitchen window of wild red squirrels, and do that still. Normally, I get bored after doing something for a few years, but not with animal photography. I still watch these adorable animals almost every day and take photos. They come and they go.

I try to bring some magic, wonder, and happiness with my work, which is real animal pictures and not Photoshop. Only sometimes I take away a wire or some food. I also put out some videos on Youtube.

As of today, the wild animals I’ve captured have been published in about 25 newspapers. Articles about my work have appeared on the internet in about 30 countries. Two books are published, cute squirrel postcards, and a Calendar.

Me too. I hope someday this article's title be included in a lingustics textbook. Maybe in the semantics section. Sounds not only like squirrels being killed, but also that the author is enjoying it and selling squirrel fur. The meaning changes completely by swapping the meaning of just this one single word. I find that fascinating.

Many thanks Geert, they are brilliant. I am oh so jealous. I go to the Isle of Wight now and then to feed and get pictures of the red squirrel, I spend hours in the gardens. Hotel staff think I've lost the plot, but I cant help it. I take a cup of tea and kilos of hazelnuts to feed them and have got a few good shots, but not as good as yours. So again I send you my thanks. DSC_0799-5...b78edd.jpg DSC_0799-5e652e2b78edd.jpg

Did you really just try and pass these off as not being Photoshopped?

You have a natural eye for composition, and only some of the best little furry models one could wish for. Maybe in your future there will be a coffee table book! I'll buy it!

Cute, but think the more natural without props are the best.

Imaginative & Playful. What fun and I bet nary a complaint from any of the participants. A fine Craft that I feel can do nothing but get more refined with practice and time. I look forward to seeing your next installment. Keep up the good work.

Why do you say they are not photoshopped? From the very first one, it's completely obvious they are shopped. I also agree that you chose very inappropriate words for your title.

For example, the one on the ladder isn't physically possible as the ladder wouldn't stand up like that.

Fantastic photos. I have a squirrel friend as well. His name is Squiggy. I made him a special feeder this year because the blue jays were stealing all his peanuts. My squirrel feeder is blue jay-proof!

So cute! I passed a squirrel with a bright pink nose today because his head had been deep in a yogurt container. I was not fast enough with my phone to snap a shot.

How far away are you from the squirrel when you are shooting? Do you require a long distance lens?
