Vet Who Posed With A Dead Lion He Shot, Just Fell 100ft To His Death While Hunting
The infamous vet who sparked a backlash after posing with the big game animals he shot, died while hunting birds in Italy. 55-year-old Luciano Ponzetto had a veterinary clinic near Turin. After pictures of him with trophy kills emerged on social media (think lions, leopards and deers) , animal rights activists started a campaign against him. There was even a Facebook page dedicated to the shaming of Luciano Ponzetto. The vet also received some death threats.
When all of this happened a year ago, Luciano Ponzetto defended himself saying that being a vet “is not incompatible with hunting, either morally or professionally”. Italy’s Veterinarians’ Guild was on Ponzetto’s side, stating that “hunting is a hobby regulated by the law, which does not allow us to take measures against him.”
Ponzetto’s last hunting trip proved to be fatal. The vet slipped on the ice and fell 100ft down a rivine while trying to shoot wild birds. An Italian police officer told The Sun: “His body was recovered by helicopter and taken to a local hospital… It looks like he slipped and fell when he was out hunting. He died instantly and there was nothing that could be done.”

This is really wrong, I don't like his actions but we shouldn't be celebrating his death! When my dad died they reported it on the radio for a couple days and that was hard enough without people saying he should burn in hell! I just can't fathom the hypocrisy of the comments relating to this story. You people say you care for life. You all say that killing is bad but here you are celebrating the death of another human being, a father, brother, son, all because his beliefs don't agree with yours. Sad. Do you even understand how a hunting safari works? Have you looked up and researched what goes on? You folks really should look up how these Hunting Safaris work. "Readers Digest" form for you. The animals hunted are selected because they have health issues and have a very poor quality of life. Once the Safari is completed, the meat is then given to the people of the surrounding villages to... wait for it... feed the people! Lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes... Other parts are used to make tools and jewelry. Some are even used for traditional religious ceremonies. Money raised are often used to buy school supplies or to fulfill other needs in the community. Research folks.

I have no problem with hunting, as long as you eat what you kill. Trophy hunting is a senseless waste of life. The tone of this article, and several of the responses, however, is overly shrill. Yes, there is a small irony here, but please don't mistake that for karma.

I agree to a certain extent - his death should not be celebrated. On the other hand, he killed a lion & posed in a photo with it's corpse; taking it's death lightly. Even if he was at a "hunting safari", where they make use of the meat, and select these animals due to poor living conditions - he enjoyed killing another living creature as a "hobby". He fell to his death, it's own damn fault.

You know, I just read a lot of the comments about this. Yeah, I feel bad for the family. But they had to know what he was like. He was not an animal lover. I'm sure in his practice he probably helped a lot of pets for a lot of people. But what would make a man who purportedly loved animals; made his living as a vet' yet could go out and kill some of the world's rarest animals for so-called 'sport'? How can you have any sympathy for him -- not the family or others who are saddened by his accident -- but for him? Yeah, if you want to critique Bored Panda's editorial style, go ahead. I don't. It is news and there are news articles here if you care to read them. But maybe you only read the craft articles. I don't know.

Caitlyn, you are a little confused. First, I did NOT compare this guyβs actions to those of the unibomber (whom I did not mention at all) and Roof. I said that, in punishing wrongdoers, the reaction of their relatives is not relevant. But, rather than sharing your anthropocentrism, yes, I do feel that destroying the natural world is as bad as killing other humans. It IS killing humans in the long run. I donβt favor abolishing the death penalty (it must be applied fairly), but I would extend it to cover people like Blankenship (whose greed killed several miners), the BP officials that killed oil workers and did long-term damage to the sea, Palmer and others that kill viciously for sport, and various others that commit real crimes against Nature (a term that has nothing to do with one's sexual proclivities).

Karma! I am still waiting for Karma to get around to Dentist Walter Palmer who last year fraudulently killed Cecil the lion. Cecil was lured off the sanctuary at night, shot via the light of the truck's headlights, was wounded, and the next day was tracked so that Dentist Walter Palmer could finish him off.

for example the word Karma which i seen a lot of people use but i don't think some knows where it comes from. Karma is part of Hinduism and Buddhism so people are i'm guessing using the word Karma without knowing this so they believe in these religions. if they don't believe it Hinduism and Buddhism then there is no such thing as Karma. I just can't fathom the hypocrisy of the comments relating to this story. You people say you care for life. You all say that killing is bad but here you are celebrating the death of another human being, a father, brother, son, all because his beliefs don't agree with yours. Sad. Do you even understand how a hunting safari works? Have you looked up and researched what goes on? You folks really should look up how these Hunting Safaris work. "Readers Digest" form for you. The animals hunted are selected because they have health issues and have a very poor quality of life. Once the Safari is completed, the meat is then given to the people of the surrounding villages to... wait for it... feed the people! Lions, tigers, elephants, giraffes... Other parts are used to make tools and jewelry. Some are even used for traditional religious ceremonies. Money raised are often used to buy school supplies or to fulfill other needs in the community. Research folks.

I have no problem with hunting, as long as you eat what you kill. Trophy hunting is a senseless waste of life. The tone of this article, and several of the responses, however, is overly shrill. Yes, there is a small irony here, but please don't mistake that for karma.

I agree to a certain extent - his death should not be celebrated. On the other hand, he killed a lion & posed in a photo with it's corpse; taking it's death lightly. Even if he was at a "hunting safari", where they make use of the meat, and select these animals due to poor living conditions - he enjoyed killing another living creature as a "hobby". He fell to his death, it's own damn fault.

You know, I just read a lot of the comments about this. Yeah, I feel bad for the family. But they had to know what he was like. He was not an animal lover. I'm sure in his practice he probably helped a lot of pets for a lot of people. But what would make a man who purportedly loved animals; made his living as a vet' yet could go out and kill some of the world's rarest animals for so-called 'sport'? How can you have any sympathy for him -- not the family or others who are saddened by his accident -- but for him? Yeah, if you want to critique Bored Panda's editorial style, go ahead. I don't. It is news and there are news articles here if you care to read them. But maybe you only read the craft articles. I don't know.

Hunting season is before the animals mate usually, or during mating season at the latest (at least for deer, but so many deer, and with us hoomans cutting down their forest, who woulda thought their land was diminishing?) Caitlyn, you are a little confused. First, I did NOT compare this guyβs actions to those of the unibomber (whom I did not mention at all) and Roof. I said that, in punishing wrongdoers, the reaction of their relatives is not relevant. But, rather than sharing your anthropocentrism, yes, I do feel that destroying the natural world is as bad as killing other humans. It IS killing humans in the long run. I donβt favor abolishing the death penalty (it must be applied fairly), but I would extend it to cover people like Blankenship (whose greed killed several miners), the BP officials that killed oil workers and did long-term damage to the sea, Palmer and others that kill viciously for sport, and various others that commit real crimes against Nature (a term that has nothing to do with one's sexual proclivities).

Karma! I am still waiting for Karma to get around to Dentist Walter Palmer who last year fraudulently killed Cecil the lion. Cecil was lured off the sanctuary at night, shot via the light of the truck's headlights, was wounded, and the next day was tracked so that Dentist Walter Palmer could finish him off.

for example the word Karma which i seen a lot of people use but i don't think some knows where it comes from. Karma is part of Hinduism and Buddhism so people are i'm guessing using the word Karma without knowing this so they believe in these religions. if they don't believe it Hinduism and Buddhism then there is no such thing as Karma. You can't just go to a religion and pick part of it and not believe the rest because that's not how religion works
