We wanted to find out more about Lindsay Diary Comics, so we reached out to the creator of the series. When asked to describe her strip in three words, the artist answered: “Autobiographical, nature, cycling,” and she elaborated: “My daily comics are based on everyday activities and events in my life, and nature frequently makes an appearance because I'm lucky to live in a beautiful area. I also regularly discuss my cycling exploits and adventures as a novice daily cyclist.”
One pecked a hole in the side of my house in WA and made a nest. That spring, it sounded like an aviary when the eggs hatched.
Next, we were curious about what initially inspired Lindsay to start making comics. Here’s what we learned: “I’ve been making comics on and off since I was a kid, but with no real consistency. A few years ago I attended a ‘how to make daily comics’ talk by @hialyssacomics, who has been making daily comics for several years now, and I was inspired to give it a try for myself. Since then I’ve made almost 700 daily comics!”
The cartoonist also shared with us what her creative process looks like and how she usually comes up with ideas for new strips: “Since my daily comics are autobiographical, I get ideas from what’s happened to me recently. I can depict a moment from my day, how I’ve been feeling lately, share some neat animals I saw on my bike ride, how I nearly got run over again, etc.”
When asked about other artists in the realm of comedy and comics who inspire her, Lindsay mentioned a few: “Comics by Alyssa - I love her daily comics and she’s the one who inspired me to get started on them in the first place! Peter Conrad Comics is another (near) daily comic artist who inspires me to keep on creating. Endrené Shepherd - a local friend who creates beautiful paintings and personal comics about her life. Bill Watterson and his ‘Calvin and Hobbes’ was my biggest inspiration as a kid, and I still admire his work all these years later.”
Lastly, the artist told us about her favorite comic she’s created or one that was especially fun to make: “Last year I self-published a 25-page comic called ‘Beak to Beak!’ Set in Auckland, New Zealand, it features two pigeons from rival pigeon messenger services and their encounter with a group of feral pigeons. I came up with this idea when I was doing research for a general talk on pigeons and was fascinated to come across this pigeon post drama!”
Lindsay continued and shared with us a list of her best cartoons: “I have a collection of some of my favourite daily comics up to January 10, 2024.
And these are some of my more recent favourites: this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this."
In other news, nobody can find out what happened to the oil drained off your car during its service
Well, talking to the other cars is a form of stress-relief. I do it all the time, but, you know, they don't listen to me!

Happy people, pictures of happy pets, money raised for a good cause - some days, it *is* worth getting out of bed
Tie a few lengths of string across the glass, inside - it often helps birds realise that there's a barrier
I can't make up my mind - is Pokemon just happy fun for kids, or the introductory lesson for Capitalism 101 ?
OMFG WHAAAAT Lindsay is one of my BFFS4LIFE! We met on a virtual pet site where you could breed/collect (intellectual-property-infringement) off-brand My Little Ponies XD I WENT TO HER WEDDING! She is awesome! I'm over here legit crying because we lost touch (mostly thanks to my controlling ex) but I am SO delighted to randomly find an article about her art/comics here on BP!
Why not get in touch with her via Instagram? Her account is active and she has been posting comics every day! Good luck!
Thank you, Michelle! I sent her a message on IG! Hopefully we can have some laughs about the terrible "internet politics" that happened on that virtual-pet site ;)
