So, Humans of Tumblr is an online humor brand that was launched back in 2013 with the aim of providing laughs and relief from the stresses of everyday life.

It all started off as a small, but strong startup and has since then become an entertainment hub that features articles, memes, original content and highlights of the best things you can find online.

While it might look the part, Humans of Tumblr isn’t a source of breaking news and it doesn’t aim to be. It doesn’t talk about politics or the like. What it does, however, is it cooks up a melting pot of internet goodness that would be enlightening and would encourage knowledge and discovery through something as casual as pictures, video and memes online. Yes, memes can be educational.

With that said, Humans of Tumblr also introduced the official Humans of Tumblr page on Instagram back in 2020. It features a selection—currently standing at over 2,000 posts—of text memes that today’s average netizen would relate to. It features everything from shower thoughts of sorts to memorable quotes from around the internet that describe what it means to be a human being nowadays.

More specifically, it’s stuff folks said and ideas about relationships and life in society, personal and collective struggles, self reflective comedy and just thoughts of how different life would be if we all had background music blasting while we live our lives.

The planet would be a loud place.

Among many other things, these text memes are simply funny. And that does what Humans of Tumblr set out to be years ago—to inspire greater things.

Comedy is known to inspire. Think of the legendary comedian George Carlin: back when comedy was typically kept simple, Carlin, among a few others, dared to go beyond the boundaries of comfort and tackled topics that made listeners uncomfortable.

Why? Because comedy has a potential that shouldn’t be wasted—a potential that can encourage folks to think about issues that really matter.

Everything from politics to social conventions is on the table here (with some exceptions, but even there the line is blurry). And not only does it make you think, but it might also bring about change by holding folks accountable and pushing for behavioral correction.

Besides that, humor (in many forms) is a certain coping mechanism for many humans. Not only does it help us get through tough times, but it also helps us make sense of tragic or stressful events sometimes. It’s a way to deal with difficult subjects and feelings—a thing some comedians embrace on the regular.

If anything, comedy fosters creativity. Because humor has the power of making serious things less strict and lightens up the mood in, say, corporate settings, it encourages things like idea sharing and innovation.

And because of its nature of eliciting chuckles from unexpected circumstances, it also encourages unconventional thought patterns and problem solving.

Heck, jokes, if done right, can create a positive and psychologically safe environment—and when you’re aloof and zen, your brain has more juice to focus on thinking and generating new ideas rather than how to safely navigate corridors so that Steve from HR or Tim from Accounting wouldn’t stop you to talk about … TPS reports… or something.
