I’m A Wheelchair-Bound Artist And I Challenged Myself To Draw Every Single Pokémon As A Human (40 Pics)
My name is Chey, or you can call me Endifi/Frosty. I am a freelance artist born with a bone disease called osteogenesis imperfecta, which impairs my bones, so I cannot walk far, jump, or run, and I'm wheelchair-bound. But despite me being impaired, I LOVE to draw. I've been drawing since I was practically a baby.
Do you know what else I really love? Pokémon. This franchise that been with me since I was a child, like most, and I've grown to appreciate its creativity, innovation, and its willingness to give us a friend to travel with us. I remember when I was a kid watching TV and a certain advertisement came on about Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. It was a commercial where they had people cosplaying as the Pokémon that were next to them—one was cosplaying as a Pikachu and one was a Torchic, etc. That commercial really convinced me to buy Pokémon Sapphire. And around 2009, I got more into Pokémon "gijinkas" by an artist (I, unfortunately, don't remember their name). But that "Pokégijinka" artist inspired me to start drawing my own gijinkas. By the way, for those who don't know, gijinka means giving humanizing traits to an animal, planet, item, etc.

Yuejing The Umbreon
In 2013, I loved Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire so much, I created some gijinkas based upon that generation. I created stories about my characters and my friends really loved it so much. In 2013, I even got a special reward on Deviantart for a Pokémon gijinka I drew.
So that inspired me to do a challenge where I draw every single Pokémon in the National Dex, humanized. Unfortunately, I started college to pursue a degree in Media and Animation. But in 2018, it was time for me to challenge myself in character designing because I personally felt my art needed adjustment. So I started my Pokémon gijinka project.
Mother Of The Unown
Eifiryu The Espeon
My goals for this project are to be diverse, tell stories with these characters, not to limit myself on ideas, and just have fun. Most of my gijinkas tend to be different people because I want to build and manufacture a creative world for them even if I'm just drawing a character. I even give them personal names just to humanize them more because when I was a kid, I always nicknamed my Pokémon. I've already completed the Kanto Dex and I'm almost done with the Johto Dex. And committing to this has not only improved my character designing skills, but myself as a person. So I would love to present you the starter gijinkas from both gens I've done and some other Poké gijinkas I've worked on.
I don't own Pokémon, obviously, but the fanart is mine.

Donnasu The Victreebel
Thank you guys for the lovely comments. I appreciate them.
Wish I could draw like that, my stick figures look horrible, great work, like putting some of the non super popular pokemon in.
Corviknght is my fav. Change my mind. Also just as a suggestion could you try the swords of Justice?
These are spectacular. I can see some of them converted to costumes as cosplay characters.
I really enjoyed all your renditions of human inspired pokemon. I sense your artistic passions through your beautiful creations. Thank you for your art. I can tell you spent time considering each design individually, and I appreciate the nods to the show. Your work goes beyond what the pokemon look like to incorporate a piece of each one's personality from the series.
Oh my word. These are probably the best drawings I have ever seen. Keep it up!
I just finally found the name of the artist who I was inspired by to do this project. Their name is Hitec. They drew Pokemon gijinkas in the 2000s and they've been my number one inspiration ever since. So for those who are wondering who my main inspiration for doing a project like this was.
I consider myself an anime artists, but I've never actually digitally drawn before... I hope I can draw beautifully like this one day! I'm actually thinking of posting the drawings I do on paper on BoredPanda, but idk if they're actually good or not
Wow, Amazing, God gave you a wonderful talent. We had a baby with Osteogenesis Imperfect type II, died at birth.
I remember playing pokemon on my gameboy growing up. Love what you did with the idea!
I have the same dream ... a different disability, which sadly prevents e from doing what I love - so really cudos for pulling through and doing such an amazing job at it! The art is stunning and cute and filled with personality - i love it and it surely inspired me a ton <3

I want to see every single one and I need more of these in grass types. ADORABLE!!!
Amazing! This reminds me of the Pokémon gijinka artist Tamtamdi! Do you have a Facebook page I can follow?
These are so good and creative. So original too! Finally a post that isnt Disney princess reimagined
I CANT EXPRESS HOW MUCH I LOVE THIS ART!! ❤️❤️❤️ You are soooo talented!!!!!!
My little brother, and sister, are OBSESSED with Pokémon, and I showed them these pics. They LOVED them. I have to admit, their REALLY good.
Your artwork is AMAZING. You totally nailed every single one of them. You have a wonderful talent. Please keep up the good work. Brilliant brilliant work 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😀😀😀
These designs are lovely, but why were the pictures uploaded as the lowest-quality JPEG images possible?
Not sure why the lead is all about your disease since apparently it doesn't affect your drawing abilities. Instead of being an artist in a wheelchair with a disease, you presented yourself as someone with a disease in a wheelchair who happens to be an artist. Interesting choice.
I'm a little confused as to the title of this article. What does "wheelchair bound" have to do with anything? Why do you feel the need to categorize this individual instead of just saying "Artist". He explains his condition in the content, but the title is inappropriate.
