When we got engaged in September 2019, we got so excited to throw a party with our 200 favorite people in Bellingham, WA. We set our date for 8/22/2020 and dove into the planning phase. Kelsey is from the PNW, and Spencer is from the Midwest, which means that there would have been a lot of people traveling from near and far.
When COVID 19 happened, we swiftly decided that the last thing we wanted was a gathering of 200 people. We sadly decided to cancel our wedding and wallowed in the sadness of it all for a while. We knew we still wanted to get married, of course, but sharing the celebration with all of your loved ones is so quintessential to a wedding. So… Spencer came up with the great idea to take our wedding on the road!
We bought a camper van and plotted out where every one of our loved ones on our guest list lives around the country. It made a pretty short route! Starting from our home in Portland, Oregon, we’d head across the country to Portland, Maine. From there, we’d head south along the East Coast and take a Southern route back to hit all our loved ones. We mapped it out, calculated the time needed, and set up our Tour de Love!
Together, we wrote out our email announcement to everyone on our guest list and *boom* – right away, people were reaching out, offering driveways to park in, and things to do together! The key to making this safe is that we are going to be socially distanced and will only be visiting with our friends and family in back yards and parks, and only staying in our van. We want to be mindful and cautious.
Now that our itinerary is set, we need to pack up our stuff, set up our van for six weeks of remote work, and boogie on out of here! We’ll say our vows privately on the day before we leave, so we officially can say we’re hitched, but the real celebration will come as we set off on our love adventure.
