How To Study Biology For Six Years And Finally Become A Jewelry Designer.

Hello, my name is Olya and I am a biologist. More precisely, I’m a physiologist and a plant biochemist. And even more precisely, I’m a jeweler.

My biological education gave me an idea of what I really want to do. My education made it clear to me that it was a mistake :) and at the same time demonstrated the beauty of nature.

Once I came to a charity store in St. Petersburg and saw beautiful wire-wrapped earrings. I realized that I’d like to know how to create such beauty with my own hands. So my personal history of handiwork began in that charity store.

During 4 years of practice, I learned several techniques of jewelry work. Surely I started with the wire-wrap technique that delighted me so much in that store.

Being inspired by the first success, I decided to open up new horizons and try the electrotype method. While coating dozens of leaflets, beetles and various flies with copper, I realized that it’s not my path and switched back to wire-wrapping.

In some time I became interested in metal etching and so I mastered it. This added variety of forms and contents to my products and inspired me for further improvements.

The most recent technique I mastered is sheet metal sawing. Now I combine these techniques to create my jewelry, the resulting variety of shapes makes me happy.

But this, of course, is not the limit, because there are so many interesting creative discoveries ahead!

I would be glad if you appreciate my work and if you like something of the items I made.
