Artist Made A Guide That Shows What To Do When You See Islamophobia

It’s a sad indication of the times we live in when somebody has to create an illustrated guide that teaches bystanders how they can help victims of Islamophobic harassment. But due to the increased pressure experienced by the Islamic community in France following a number of tragic terrorist attacks in the country recently, a Paris-based illustrator who goes by the name of Maeril decided to create this useful guide to encourage people to assist Muslims unfairly targeted because of their faith.

“I’m focusing on protecting Muslims here,” writes Maeril on her Tumblr page. “As they have been very specific targets lately, and as a French Middle Eastern woman, I wanted to try and do something to raise awareness on how to help when such things happen before our eyes – that way one cannot say they “didn’t know what to do”!” Scroll down to see what you can do to help.

Shame on anyone who things its ok to harrass anyone especialy because of Religion. The purpose of this guide is to address the recent incidents of harrassment that Muslims have faced by some big angry bullies. No Muslim, Christian or Jew or Atheist should have to justify their beliefs to anyone. Just becuase other types of phobias exist does not mean Islamophobia is justified. If you don't like a certain group of people..fine.. but it still doesnt give you the right to go up to them and attack them with your words. .

I wonder, if a beautiful blond woman goes to any Muslim country in the middle east, without scarf on her head, with short skirt (because this is how she likes going out), will she be treated in the same way by some Muslim woman in the public transportation (just as it is depicted in the picture above)? Should this blond woman demand respect from the Muslim community? And most importantly - will the Muslim lady, who comforted her, be killed by stones just for the sake of the belief? I wonder...

A friend of mine, of Polish nationality, went to work in a spa in Turkey for some weeks and she and her friend almost got raped by the bus driver and his friend who thought in their sick mind they wanted something with them. The girls did not do anything to provoke them, they just were asking for directions. What she told me is that blond european women are seen as easy and they think they will accept right away whatever those men ask them. She does not want to go back to that country anymore. Too dangerous if you go by yourself or with another woman. You have to go with a man for them to respect you. This is an experience from a Polish blonde woman in Turkey.

anti-Semitic hate crimes are far higher in France and America than anti-Muslim. That's why Jews are fleeing France. Guess what kind of immigrants are doing the anti-Semitic attacks. In America, the US gov reports anti-Semitic attacks are 5 times the anti-Islamic attacks.

Reading these comments are bringing tears to my eyes. The media is brainwashing us all. There is abuse in and by every religion. Christians have burned over 700 million women in the past 2000 years because they were using plants as medicine, therefore they were "witches". My brother was kidnapped and beaten up by muslims. Does that mean that I should disrespect muslims when I see them on the street ? Does that mean that I shouldn't help women in the situation depicted above ? She could be the kindest woman on earth for all you know. If the media treated you like a terrorist wouldn't you get angry and maybe start acting like one ? The key here is to show LOVE not hate. LOVE as much as you can because there is only one race, it is the HUMAN race. Stop hating, don't watch the news, help where you can, don't be Anti-Racism or Anti-Muslim, be Pro-Peace and Pro-Love. Racism is a mental illness, i know it can be hard to forgive and tolerate, but it is a problem of ignorance and miseducation.

To the small minded on this board that can't quite figure this out. If you see a hate crime AND you want to intervene, regardless of whether it is a hate crime against Muslim, Christian, Jew, Atheist, skin color, speech impediments, eye color, or whatever other stupid reason people have for disliking other people without knowing them, the above graphic works. UNLESS you are just plain dumb and spend more time complaining about how this group is more privileged than the group I like or some of this group was mean so all people of that group are mean. Hint hint

And what to do if I see Atheistophobia? Oh wait, we only have a word Islamophobia. Harassment against any other group is not a phobia... seems legit. But seriously, go to youtube and search up "sharia patrols harassing". Then make a guide to show what to do against Muslim harassment. Cheers!

No one said that other religious/non religious groups are discriminated against. I understand your frustration but the reason we aren't hearing about Atheist-phobes/christian-phobes is simple because atheists and christians aren't in the spotlight like Muslims and Islamic people are at the moment, and for all the wrong reasons too. You are right though- there are many religious and ethnic groups which experience the very same sort of things, and hopefully in the future all of this will get the attention it rightfully needs.

Whenever I hear someone talking s**t about Gay people I stand up and I tell them that "they are human just like you, just because of their sexual choices it doesn't mean they aren't human." I feel so bad when I hear 'black' people getting insults and bullied because of their skin color. What if it was the opposite? What if 'black' people where bulliyng the 'white' people? I'm a feminist, humanist and Muslim. The truth is I'm a HUMAN and people are racist and sexist. Thank you very much for reading this. Please don't get bad vibes from this. I believe in Allah, I'm Muslim. I believe in equality, I respect your opinions. I love people, (I'm not saying black or white because it doesn't matter what your skin color is. Or I'm not saying gay, lesbian, biseksual etc. You are a human being and I love you the way you are.) When people get killed in New Orleans, Orlando I was so upset and I wish I had money to go there and be there to help people and make them feel much better or to get justice. I hate Muslims who said that they are killing people for no reason but they are just doing it for Allah. It's not how our religion are. Please, just don't believe what media show you. We are not savages. We are not barbarians. We are humans just like you.

hmmm I would die to protect that Moslem woman... true ignorance to do this to anyone in the States. When I got back from combat, infantry in Iraq, my feelings toward Arabs, Moslems was between hatred & fear but I never openly expressed it. Up at the university I saw an Arab woman running, and I'll give you a guess what that means in Iraq... I was in the war again & every ambush, bodies & IED was in my head. Looking at three "hajis" at a ski area, I didn't know, but my brother said "you look like someone just threw a beer in your wife's face." Time heals, but what helped most was a Saudi student, who really took a shine to my better side. Our conversations & just "hellos" really helped un-F my head. I will say, what people say about "the other side of the coin" of "Europeans, Christians" esp females, in the Middle East is very true. Spend ONE DAY in the Middle East, & you will change your tune about them being "just like us, good & bad" 1st- the way they treat females -in every way

This would work as long as the bully wasn't threatening violence. At that point, sitting down next to the victim might protect him/her long enough for the bus driver (or some other passenger) to call for help.

Doesn't matter what religion, gender, sexuality, or race. No one deserves to get harassed by anyone because of those things. People who actively think everyone's the same because some people have acted like douchebags towards them are the worst. Give them the benefit of the doubt.

Stop hate because of religion?! Total allegiance and love are only to be given within the Islamic community, and rejection, hate, and enmity against the other is commanded, based upon Qur'anic foundations: Say: "If you love Allah then follow me that Allah may love you and forgive your faults… Allah does not love the infidels. … They are the residents of Hell, and will there forever abide." So,if you are with religion which hates me that there won't be love from my side. Simple.

I'm a Turk,18 year old girl, living in Turkey, Antalya. I know what people think about Muslims and Turks but please be realistic. Not all Muslims are same, not all Christians or people from other religions are the same. Just like in my country, there are rapists, perverts and terrorists in other countries too. Not only in Muslim Countries. In here you can wear anything you want to wear.Yes, they are problems in my country but every country has it. In Antalya, you can wear a bikini and walk around, it's a natural thing, you can lay on the beach, naked, and yes in our religion it's not appropriate but it's your life and your way to live. Some of us have respect and some of us don't. But it's not only in here. Think our country as a Jewish or Christian Country. What would your react than? It's just a tag, we are all same. I can be friend with a Jewish, Christian, Buddist and Atheist. I have two friend who don't believe in Allah and I was in a class full of Atheists. But I respect them.

Most Muslims are not terrorists. There are about 1.5 billion of them. If just one half of them were terrorists, the whole world would be bombed to the Bronze age :) But the problem of Islam is not just terrorism. The problem is Islam itself. At least in Europe. It is democracy versus sharia. Those two are mutually exclusive.

This is not so difficult. This indicates Islamic people but how many of you might be in a minority of some sort? The same situation as applied here as a solution can work to any minority being harassed or even any person being harassed. I know that this is so. I've experienced the above both ways, being harassed and being able to "rescue" a harassed person. Give it a try. You'll have to be brave to do it but it's worth a try at least once.

This seems like a really good idea, but it requires some social skills. What if the harrassed person takes your beneficial engagement as further attack and runs away? Seriously, when someone's already in the wrong mood, all they want is some privacy andbsome time for themselves. A third person approaching like that could be a little overwhelming for the victim. Furthermore, the aggressor may not let themselves be ignored. If I were the victim, I'd just stand up and walk away into a different wagon, plug my earphones, look into my phone, and pretend I don't see the world around me. I'm not saying this is a better solution, that's just the result, as it is the quickest way for those who don't wanna be bothered.

You know what the problem is? Calling someone Islamic or Muslim. Do you think about Everyone like this? Nationality taking a back seat to religion when identifying a person? No matter where you go in the world, there will be arseholes. Some will be black, some white and all will be the same; human. Who gives a f**k what religion or nationality someone is? If they are an arsehole, that desn't mean that their country of origin or choice of religion is why. As an Englishman currently living in Bangladesh (a hugely Islamic country) I can confidently say I know more arseholes that are white, English and either Christian or Athiest than I do anyone else. Condemning the extremists who cause violence and pain is one thing, condemning a whole religion because of those few is another thing all together. And quite frankly if we were to do the same for all religions, Christianty has some explaining to do. Just see each other as human guys, don't judge a person for anything but their deeds.

We don't choose our nationality or skin color, but we can choose our religion. I was born as a Muslim (Unfortunately) but I am an atheist now, I believe in humanity. But do extremists (no matter what religion they have) respect humanity? Most of extremists are Muslims, they think that they have the best manner and judge others by their silly beliefs.

I am an expert on muslims.Ask me. I have been killing them since I was a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Infantry. Their Allah commands them to kill non-muslims before they can go to heaven. I rather that I kill them first before I become their ticket to muslim paradise. In our part of the world, these muslims have armed secessionist groups that kill non-muslims, tacitly supported by the muslim populace . I saw their victims, of headless corpses, torn limbs and spilled bowels. Of women raped, naked bodies lying still; the living with eyes open but unseeing, their cries silent but deafening; the dead, their broken bodies just a shell of a life that could have lived more joy. When I encounter them during combat operations..I shoot to kill. The captives, I make sure they suffer more than the hurt they gave their victims. Then I bury them alive. I gaze into their eyes before I shovel the last dirt that bury their face and delight that in their final breath , my smile is the last thing they see

I am an expert on muslims. I have been killing them since I was a 2nd Lieutenant of the Army Infantry. Their Allah commands them to kill non-muslims so they can go to heaven. I rather that I kill them first before I become their ticket to their muslim paradise . Everyday I live, I remember the victims of muslim terrorists , of headless corpses of men and children, torn limbs and disemboweled bodies, women who were raped and tortured, bodies lying still, the living have eyes open but unseeing, their cries silent but deafening, the dead..nothing more than the battered shell of a life that could have lived more joy. Whenever we encounter them during combat operations, I shoot to kill. The captives, I make sure they feel more the hurt they gave their victims..but I do not kill them just yet.. I bury them alive. No, we do not burn their villages or kill or rape their women and children.. that is against the law and un-Christian. I refuse that my hate will make me them.

That is a very Christian thing to do. Love thy neighbors as thyself. If there is to be any contention here, it should be against Islam instead. It is Islam that is the problem.

Hint hint

Please, just don't believe what media show you. hmmm I would die to protect that Moslem woman... true ignorance to do this to anyone in the States.
