Homophobes Swim For Help To The Pride Boat They Were Just Harassing After Their Own Boat Explodes

Homophobes Swim For Help To The Pride Boat They Were Just Harassing After Their Own Boat Explodes

Interview

Karma is an interesting and unpredictable part of life. Sometimes, it can take months, years, or even decades to show up and balance the scales. And sometimes it strikes in an instant, handing out just desserts like it’s a bake sale for a good cause and everything’s half-off. And karma can push some of its other plans aside to make time for somebody who’s acting hatefully and being very cocky, as one recent event on the water in Moses Lake in Washington proved.

A group of friends was calmly enjoying life on the water when suddenly a boat full of people started circling around them, harassing them, and shouting gay slurs because of their Pride flags. Then karma got involved, instantly—the homophobes’ boat exploded and caught fire. However, the members of the LGBTQ+ community graciously gave their persecutors a helping hand and welcomed them onto their own boat. You’ll find the full videos below, dear Pandas.

Bored Panda reached out to Cosmic Robbie aka Retro_ushi_, who was on the boat flying Pride flags, to hear more about what happened after the incident. Robbie shared that they and their friends have been “absolutely overwhelmed” by the massive amount of support they’ve gotten after the news went viral. “Our initial expectations is that the video would get out locally and we’d have about a 50/50 division between support and hate but so far we have yet to encounter any actual negative feedback. We’re all just happy that no one was severely hurt and everyone made it out alive,” Robbie shared with Bored Panda.

According to Robbie, the Moses Lake Sheriff’s Department has been “extremely supportive” of them from the very beginning. They’ve maintained regular contact with them and “expressed nothing but gratitude and respect throughout this entire ordeal.”

However, karma struck back instantly and the bullies’ boat literally exploded. You can see what happened better in the two TikTok videos here

I was interested to find out whether this sort of behavior was a rare occurrence or frequent in the local area. Robbie stated that this type of harassment is extremely rare in the area.

“We understand we live in a conservative based area, but from what we understand, the perpetrators weren’t local to Moses Lake. We get a mixture of stares, people avoiding eye contact, hesitant waves, eager Greeters and on the day in question we even had a gentleman flash us! (He simply lifted his tank top while hooting at us.) I’d say a majority of people simply choose a focal point and refuse to avert their sight until our flags are conveniently out of sight,” Robbie said.

“And to be honest, we’re all perfectly okay with that. Because we aren’t asking that people acknowledge our presence with only positive feedback. We’re asking that we are respected and treated as human beings, just as we treated the human beings on the other boat,” they said that what they’re looking for is elementary dignity and politeness.

“Unfortunately, it seems that for anyone to listen to my people, the LGBTQ community, we have to both be abused and exceptionally forgiving!” Robbie opened up about the sad reality that incidents like this are pretty much the only way to get attention. “But if there was anyone this mishap could have chosen happened to, it certainly chose the group strong enough to handle it.”

They continued: “Not a single one of the 4 people involved could have accomplished this alone because of the strength we’ve built as a family of hardship. What we want everyone to know is, this experience not only made us stronger as a family AND a community, but it also made up more proud to express who we are and what we stand for; bigots will never make us hide our pride!”

The group of friends who were the victims of the homophobic harassment was made up of four people, three of whom go by the handles KieferMeise, Retro_ushi_, and Nova_Starr19 on Twitter.

After one of them uploaded a couple of videos from the incident on TikTok, they got nearly 11 million combined views at the time of writing. The harassers circled their boat a whopping six times.

Even after the group rescued the water-logged haters, they weren’t too polite. One of them started vaping even though their rescuers were asthmatics while another kept screaming “hysterically.” The third homophobe, however, kept quiet because they had gone ‘number two’ in their pants because of how scared they were.

“The passengers were quite rude, shouting over us, ignoring my [inquiries] about their well being when on the 911 call and smoking a Vape pen on our boat without even so much as asking if they could; several passengers of our boat have asthma,” Retro_ushi_ aka Robbie told The Washington Post.

Later, the police arrived and extinguished the flames. Meanwhile, the rescued boaters didn’t even say ‘thank you’ and simply left on a friend’s boat when it came for them.

According to Retro_ushi, the boat explosion may have been a direct result of driving around the LGBTQ+ group to harass them. “They were driving around us so roughly, they either damaged their carburetor or took in water and stalled. Then fumes built up and when they tried to speed away, the fumes ignited,” they wrote on Twitter.

The group of friends had some more updates for the Twitter users who were curious about what happened

While events like this one prove that there’s still a long way to go until the LGBTQ+ community is fully accepted in the United States, there is, nonetheless, some tangible progress to speak of. Just yesterday, I wrote about how President Joe Biden issued a presidential proclamation that officially recognized June as Pride Month, earlier this week.

The President vowed to fight for full equality for the LGBTQ+ community and to codify this into law to ensure tolerance, dignity, and protection of human rights.

“After four years of relentless attacks on L.G.B.T.Q.+ rights, the Biden-Harris administration has taken historic actions to accelerate the march toward full L.G.B.T.Q.+ equality,” the White House stated on Tuesday, June 1.

I like how this was handled. If the harassed party had sped off, the harassers would have felt justified with their hatred. Now, what can they possibly say against them? It is clear who the better people are. Doing the right thing is always the right thing, whether or not someone deserves it. This world could use more kindness and kind acts, instead of retribution.

I lived a stones throw away from Moses Hole (Lake) for 14 years. I can strongly say that these morons do not reflect the over all attitude of the majority of people in Washington State. You are also a better person than I am. I would have thrown them a floaty and said "Emergency services will be here shortly. We don't want to taint you by bringing you on our boat. You can just stay in the water until they get here." If they begged, I would have made them apologize before letting them on the boat.

Most boaters know you always help out if someone is in danger. So I think ppl saying they would have left them would actually have had a real hard time doing so, if they found themselves in that situation. That being said. I would have got them aboard told them to sit down and shut the F up. And driven them straight to the nearest shore or boat.

Tempting as it might have been to leave the nasty little lackwits, you can’t. You always offer help to another boater; people even drop out of races to assist someone in trouble. It’s just what decent people do. And karma happens faster on the water than anywhere else, but damn! Adrestia was on the ball this time!

Dude is literally wearing a shirt that says Butt? Anyway, I would have thrown them a rope and pulled them to shore or called for help but there is no f*****g way I would have let them in my boat. I wouldn't wish homophobes on my worst enemy and I can only assume I would like my boat more than I like my worst enemy.

I saw this on TikTok, and while they helped the homophobes, I would have not allowed them to board my boat. I would have been scared for my physical well being and I would NOT have been as nice as them. As I am part of the LGBTQ+ community, I am also black, and I do not know what whould happened if I let them onboard.

Unfortunately some people who call out other's for their horrible ways. Are just as horrible when it comes right down to it. Helping them is the only thing to do. The people saying they wouldn't are no better than the homophobic people on that sinking boat. You'd think they would be better seeing how they didn't like the behavior of those on that boat. But ignorance is in so many of us and we just won't admit it. Just easier to call it out in other's.

Oh man the opportunity here. Once they got them on board, head directly out to open water. Once they were properly isolated, have one guy loudly whisper "hey, remember that idea for a BDSM porn you had?" Spend the next 5 hours amusing yourselves asking them if they have had acting lessons, asking them to repeat cheesy lines (C'mon man just say "whatever can I do to repay you for saving my life), letting them overhear sketchy comments (hey Jim, did you leave the handcuffs next the ball gag? Oh, I didn't see you there! No, I said hand pumps), and acting like you are offering them spiked drinks. Suitable repayment to these dongs and a lot of fun as well.

They deserved this, not because they disapprove of homosexuality (which is their conscientious right), but because they were being uncharitable. There's no need to behave so rudely and unkindly to strangers.

I would have kicked the vaper and the banshee back into the water and dropped the guy with his dirty pants somewhere in a crowded area to walk the walk of shame.

I would have called the harbor police and let them swim around. No place in my boat for homophobes. Not even a "Thank you" shows that these a**holes will never learn.

Tempting as it might have been to leave the nasty little lackwits, you can’t. You always offer help to another boater; people even drop out of races to assist someone in trouble. It’s just what decent people do. And karma happens faster on the water than anywhere else, but damn! Adrestia was on the ball this time!

it’s really commendable that they rescued the homophobes. even though we probably couldn’t blame them for leaving, they still asked about injuries and helped

You I think the no apologies is the worst part. They had the perfect opportunity to realize we're all people or at least realize their rescuers weren't bad after all. Nope. They stopped harassing them but didn't really learn anything.

Rescuing? OK, even S holes deserve it. But letting them on board? No. A rope is enough.

I appreciate how they handled this. The right thing is always the right thing whether or not someone deserves it. This world could use more kindness and acts of kindness instead of retribution. I think we had enough of that with the orange guy.

I would have pulled close enough to allow them to apologize and request forgiveness /help~ I would have granted the request.... If they had no remorse, I would have wished them well and gone on my way! We don't owe accommodations to people who injure us just because their luck ran out or they hit a rough patch!

Why cant people have differing beliefs and be civil at the same time? People are allowed to believe homosexuality is wrong but why go out of your way to harass and show hate towards them.

The fact that none of them could bother to be even slightly polite (except maybe for shitpantsguy??) after literally being rescued from a burning boat says so much about the brain cooties this type of hateful person has infesting their grey matter. They’re deeply broken people. It’s no excuse or justification, but it reveals the level of damage we are talking about.

Luckily there has never been a boatload of documented cases of pride folks and others dreaming up and executing their very own hate crimes against themselves. I'm sure it really happened just the way it's portrayed.

I notice a lot of these types of incidents being published now because it's currently pride month, however this type of crap happens all year 'round with less attention. It's a shame, really, that there are people that still act this hateful.

Just easier to call it out in other's.

you feel like not rescuing them, but you must, it is the law of the water that you must offer help to disabled vehicles and persons in distress. besides, if you didn't rescue them, what sort of people would you be?
