I get your point to an extent BUT I'm sure there are plenty of teens or even adult going through things like this. It is just a bit of support for people that think their crappy family members are one of a kind. Out of the billions of people in the world, I highly doubt every private situation like this has been publicised :P

Because when these things happened in private, people didn't knew that there were supportive people out there, and grew miserable, scarred for life and even hiding their real self in order to avoid these kind of horrible conflict. I'm happy she shared her horrible experience and had the support she deserved from kind strangers.

I came from a family where everything like this was very private. You know what they learned? That it was acceptable behavior because no one else knew. Thankfully for me - that has changed, but it did take some radical public-airing (and responses) to make the point. While I don't condone extreme levels of airing private dirty laundry in public forums ... some times that is the ONLY way people learn. Sad, but true.

People who aren't a******s or morons behave with dignity and sanity in public and in private. Don't display or engage in anything you don't want to be seen. Accountability is not a negative thing. Behave properly and you have nothing to be concerned about.

This isn't "every private situation", and this stuff exists to let LGBT youth that are being torn apart by their garbage families know they aren't alone and they have love and support. You all are calling this "airing dirty laundry" but what about all the people that feel like their own laundry is the only dirty laundry and they'll never be clean or acceptable? We don't fix that problem by shutting these things down because it makes some people uncomfy.

It's a good thing that people have the choice to make it public (or not), considering the social networks and support networks we have in place, nowadays. And no, not "every private conversation" is public. But some do deserve to be public. Like this one.

Very true. Unfortunately I know a lot of people who have put up with being treated like trash by their family and keep accepting it purely because it's their family. It's not easy sometimes, but ultimately it can be a lot easier to just cut the negative people out of your life or at least limit the interaction.

Her dad is on her side, at least. The rest are never going to change. They're a nasty bunch and that's not going to change over time. It's insane that her mother is so willing to attack her. Most of the mothers I know would have ripped a strip off that aunt and made sure they were never able to contact Charlie again.

But also: glad she doesn't tolerate homophobic s**t. So many hide in the closet or just accept everything their mom, aunt, grandma or dad says just because they are family! Being relatives means nothing if you are mean to each other. I haven't talked to my aunt for years because she was a c*nt and still is. But I handled it like a cold b***h. Letting her know she's out of my life and I won't bother thinking about her.

There are not many things that make me more angry than homophobic a******s. I wouldn't accept that kind of s**t from my aunt either, but Charlie clearly let her emotions take over and that just showed she let her aunt affect her feelings too much.
