Hospital staff bear witness to some of the most intense and dramatic situations, saving and losing lives is a daily occurrence for these everyday heroes.
With such a physically and emotionally draining occupation, it must come as a great relief to experience moments of pure and simple joy such as this one, shared by Brazilian nurse Cris Mamprim.

The scene unfolded at Hospital Regional Alto Vale, in the southern state of Santa Catarina, Brazil. At 3 am on a Sunday morning Cris was doing her night rounds when a homeless man called César was admitted to receive medication for an ongoing illness he has been fighting.
However, she soon came to realize that while César might be in a difficult place right now, he’s not short of friends.

A small group of four dogs was at the hospital door, waiting patiently for César with slightly concerned looks while he received his treatment. Cris was to discover that these loyal pups are well looked after by César, who often goes without a meal himself to make sure that his furry friends get food in their bellies.
“They are all well taken care of and chubby,” Cris told The Dodo. “Seeing them like that, waiting at the door, only shows how much they are cared for and loved.”

As César began to recover, staff invited the dogs in so they could be by his side. They offered him a meal, which he, of course, shared with his buddies. “Believe me, he ate some and saved a bit to give the dogs later,” Cris said. Soon after, César was free to go, back to his daily fight for survival on the streets. However, he is not alone.
The reciprocal love and care that he shares with his canine companions are sure to help keep them all safe out there and is a heartwarming example of enduring kindness in a harsh, unforgiving world.
Here’s what people had to say about the heartwarming story
This is just so poignant and true. The homeless on the streets have nothing. If they have an animal companion it will motivate those with little hope to take care of their friend, and to take care of themselves in order to continue being able to care for their friend. I have worked with homeless people, and believe me, if someone entirely alone has an animal, it will be the most important thing in their lives.
I loved the post, it shows the true nature of "homeless" people and fur babies. Usually the doggies get better treatment than in "normal" homes, where they can go ignored or abused. Thumbs up heartloving man
I wish more shelters would let animal companions of homeless people in, especially in winter. Many times homeless people don't go to a shelter (even if there is a place in one) because they aren't allowed to take their pet in with them. I understand there are homeless people with hair allergies etc. but maybe there can be some compromise, some solution.
Shelters absolutely should allow animals, providing the owner is agreeing to be responsible for noise, waste etc. Am sure others who regularly sleep on the streets have more serious concerns than hair allergy. Banning animals is akin to saying - OK we have a bed for you only, but your child will have to sleep outside alone. Animals are the only family for people who have nothing.
Load More Replies...I read this in the news this morning at work and tears came down. I work over seas and I own cats, and I would do anything for them (miss them now). This man make sure the dogs ate before him. a hero in my heart!!!!.
After a month being in the hospital, my dogs, wouldn't leave my side. click on my name to read my story.
God I feel like an idiot. I am an animal lover. I have seen this one homeless man that has a dog. I judged him and thought dude how can you afford a dog when you are begging on the streets. It actually kinda made me made. Now, though...I see the love. Damnit I'm an empath. Of course he has a dog. He needs the dog emotionally after living on the streets. Someone give me a gong to bang my head against something so obvious to most but not me. I am woke.
I am reading this and crying at the same time. I have had cats and dogs and love them. They are so loyal. Humans can talk and get help. Animals cannot, they cannot tellyou their needs. People can do anything they want with them. They can steal dogs and use them for practice for fighting dogs. People can sell them to labs. I cannot understand how these people can do what the do. I loved my animals as they were part of my family.. Please do not leave your dogs tied on posts and go into stores. When I see a dog tied like this, I wait till the Owner comes out and ask them to leave their dog home if they shopping. I remind them what could happen to them. I wish there were places where a person could donate food for these homeless people and their dogs or cats, Etc. Could donate food Person
The mans' dogs do not surprise me, I understand and have experienced a smart dog, who never disappointed me, people have !!!
This really touched my soul. One of the best stories this year! I'm beginning to think that we don't even deserve these awesome pets! Please be kind to them and to homeless people they don't choose to be that way. We don't know their stories but, they do have feelings and there is not need to be cruel to them. God bless the homeless and their pets!
Aww loved this post. Not only showed that the homeless are people; but people are people. Most of the people naturally want to take care of other beings. We enjoy being usefull, and feel that the most when being usefull to others. And we need to remember that more; since it it easy to forget in a time that the news mainly focusses on the small procent of people that lack this part of 'being human'.
