Homes that rival the most opulent palaces, cars so fancy you want to keep them in an art gallery, and gadgets that seem like they are from the future — these are the ingredients that make up the lives of the famous and outlandishly rich.

Some celebrities appear to make it their sacred duty to buy extravagantly expensive items, thus weaving tales of splendor into their homes one jaw-dropping price tag at a time.

Here are some of the most outlandishly pricey acquisitions by the rich and famous.

Shaquille O’Neal

Shaquille O’Neal

What would you do if you had a net worth of $500 Million? If you were Shaquille O’Neal, who has a net worth of the same amount, you would choose to invest some of that money into an extravagant tree house that is more expensive than some people’s actual homes.

The sports star appeared on Animal Planet’s “Treehouse Masters” in 2020 and revealed he had always wanted a tree house. The result was a massive tree house complete with a poker table, a full-service bar, and even an oil painting of Shaq. The exact price of the unconventional treehouse was not revealed, but estimates say that it was around $400,000, according to Nicki Swift.

Yeah I would totally do this if I had that net worth. Sue me. I would make it a library nook though, but I’d keep the bar

At least this is fun. What's the point in being rich if you're not going to enjoy it?

Shaq may spend extravagantly, but has no business getting called out like this. He does SO MUCH for charity. Quick story: A mom walked up to him and scolded him for how expensive his sneakers were. He listened. He turned down adidas ($ millions), Started working with walmart, head hunted and hired away adidas's design team (wanted kids to get the best style and not look like "walmart sneakers"), and now sells them affordable. He's also a PhD (not honorary, EARNED). My buddy valet'd his car and got several hundred as a tip. Dr. O'Neal, good person.

"...you would choose to invest some of that money into an extravagant tree house..." Yes, absolutely. Especially is it only cost me $400k, which is nothing if I was that rich. Aside from Shaq is known for having been fairly good with his money and how he invests it.

Shaq gives a ton to Charity let him have his tree house. Plus it's his money he can burn it all if he wanted

That's not a treehouse. That's just an elevated house built in an area where there happen to be trees.

I think he meant he always wanted a tree house he could fit into

That's just fun and if you're that rich why wouldn't you have fun? I wouldn't go with his interiors but I'd totally go for that treehouse.

Building a treehouse is perfectly okay. I think most people would be happier if they had one to retreat to.

If you get tradespeople in to construct it whilst you stand by idly, kind of misses the point.

Questions are, is there a toilet in there? And how large is the throne?

Worth it. I'd have one in the middle of the forest away from people!

No way that cost 400k! If it did, then either that's some serious price gouging, or materials in the US must be ridiculously rare and expensive.

I was thinking that this was a lot smaller than it was from the picture above but if you look at the video of this, it is larger than it seems and it really nicely done. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CLwSE6tmXDU Given that it is a treehouse I can certainly see that it would be in that price range. But note that is an estimate, they don't really know what he paid for it.

I totally concur, I can't even imagine using a kitchen without a La Cornue. Indisputably a must-have item, as I'm certain other Pandas will agree.
