Angus MacGyver became a pop culture icon because of his innovative DIY solutions. Fans of the hit TV show would fondly remember how he bypassed a high-tech security door by bending light using an ashtray or defused a bomb using a paper clip.

Of course, Hollywood tends to exaggerate, and the chances of meeting an actual Macgyver are slim to none. However, many people have a similar mindset of making do with what they have to get themselves out of a jam.

You will see a lot of these ingenious hacks in the Redneck Engineering subreddit, where people share their clever fixes to some of daily life’s problems. It features photos of makeshift iPad stands, improvised bathtubs, and crafty utensil substitutes.

Here’s our best-of-all-time list for you to enjoy today. Scroll through and be inspired by all the creativity.

Having DIY tricks up your sleeve involves a lot of creativity, which many people think they lack. If you’re part of that demographic, you can train your brain to think more outside the box.

Spending more time outdoors is one way to do this. Research published in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that a 25-minute walk in a green urban area can help quiet the mind and put it on autopilot mode.

When this happens, our brains enter a state of present awareness, sparking the imagination and allowing creative juices to flow.

Let’s switch our focus to DIY projects, which this list is also about. If you’re a beginner at it, you want to do as much as possible without spending too much. Michael Di Martino of New Jersey-based home improvement company Power Home Remodeling advises starting with interior painting, which adds value to the home.

“Things like landscaping, building a firepit, and even building a simple outdoor farm table can be easy DIY projects, too,” Di Martino told The Washington Post, suggesting other activities like redoing a basement and turning it into a recreation room.

Our cat used to climb over the wall and electric fence when he was younger. All it took was turning the electric fence on once when he tried it. (Not AS he tried it; we leave it on 24/7 but we'd had some problems with electricity.)

Before he died, my dad did this with our rolling gate. Instead of installing a motor, he just drilled a hole in the gate next to the rollers so that when the gate was closed, a padlock in the drilled hole would prevent the gate from opening. ... One night I heard scrabbling noises at the gate but couldn't see anything because it was really dark by the gate. (I was living by myself at the time, with my little dog, who stayed inside with me at night.) The next day, the plastic 'chicken wire' on the gate (to prevent my doggie from escaping - she was tiny) had been torn open. Obviously someone had ripped it to try to get to the motor... a motor that didn't exist! The person never thought to feel around for a lock in the dark, and must have been stumped when the gate wouldn't open! Stymied by a man who'd been dead for years!!

I actually have a windshield cover, it's really to keep the snow off but I bought it to protect my windshield if it hails, dampen the force of the ice a little. I don't care about dents, my car already has them. But we get a lot of hailstorms, I'd hate to have to replace my windshield every few months or have to drive with a cracked/smashed one.

Yesterday, we had what they call a multimillion dollar type of storm. There was hail, from dime to baseball size and I'm thankful as hell that I have a carport. I'm on a fixed income so replacing windows would be way out of my budget, even though my car is 18 years old and I have full coverage Insurance. I already have to hope and pray my roof doesn't get damaged, I don't need to worry about my car on top of it.

That has nothing to do with the brakes. They’re easily replaced. You want to avoid flooded cars because the water gets into the wiring and slowly corrodes the connectors and attached electronics. It’s also gets into place where it’s trapped and rusts its way out.

That's one option. This (pic) is another one: two liquid containers, stacked and repurposed. Farmers use them quite a lot. The metal frame is part of the original container. I LOVE how the thing actually has a shelf (where the two boxes connect) to keep shampoo, soap and whatever from falling to the floor.

...I've been known to buy guy wire (three or five braided thin wires). Depending on load, you can cut a piece to fit, unstrand the wires..twist them to securely hold. Obvs not applicable, because this load is too much to bear .

I use an old Electrolux vacuum cleaner for things like that. The hose is made to connect to the 'exhaust'' same as it does to the 'intake'.

We had an old, old Electrolux drag-around unit when I was a kid. It was surprisingly versatile. By "drag around", I mean it was a sled, not wheeled.

You don't need to buy a new one. I have seen them abandoned by stores that closed. You can also buy used ones fairly cheaply - especially if there is a problem with one or more of the wheels.

I worked in a hospital that had newly-graduated doctor doing a three-year residency. I don't think I ever saw one of them use a stethoscope. They just asked the nurse "How are the patient's breath sounds?" They even did that with patients who were having respiratory issues.

OMG. This reminds of one time when I was working in a hospital. Another nurse was admiring my stethoscope and asked me how much it cost. I answered "About $230." The nurse responded "Wow, that is a lot of money for a stethoscope! I don't know if I can afford that." This was a nurse doing a voluntary extra shift and was getting overtime pay plus an incentive bonus. Total pay for the shift was about $1,100.

The evolution of the nutcracker: hey I bet a ring spanner will hold the nut still while I bash it; crushes it to pieces that fly everywhere; OK maybe something with more control, like pliers; then squeezes so hard the shell cracks and no hammer needed. Voila.

Water doesn't boil over, unless it has a lot of something dissolved in it to make it more viscous. It may splash a bit. If Op just puts a lid on it (and blocks the little vent hole) the top will rattle when it boils.

I'm always fascinated that stuff like this is allowed on the streets elsewhere. In Germany you wouldn't last a day with something like that without being heavily fined and the "car" being confiscated.
