I have one of those in my neighborhood too. The sidewalk is either flooded or slick and muddy. Everyone goes around, now the desire path is slick and muddy

I'm from the UK (South West). Growing up there was a ridiculous notion that walking between the poles 'made you gay' as it apparently represented legs. There were some really nasty derogatory names for it which I won't bring back, but I'm glad this has been erased or unheard of for most people. But it also means walking under the sign on the side would be fine, as long as you're not walking between the poles.

Over 50 and never ever heard of this.

It's walking under a ladder that is bad luck, however walking under a sign means you get dripping on when it's raining

UK person not heard of this but walking under ladders is a classic. Judging by the amount of accidents involving ladders on fail vids on you tube, it's a good one!

That's probably cyclists. Those barriers are designed to slow us down. But it's not very useful if you can just go around
