Celebrity Faces Show Alarming Effects Of Ozempic Use As Hollywood Grapples With New Beauty Fad
Hollywood is abuzz with allegations of “Ozempic face,” a term for “gaunt” features linked to rapid weight loss. Stars like Katy Perry, Lizzo, and John Goodman are currently facing scrutiny over their changing appearance allegedly linked to the Ozempic face phenomenon.
Ozempic is used in combination with diet and exercise to help manage blood sugar levels, the European Medicines Agency states. It can be used on its own or in addition to other diabetes medications, such as metformin, sulphonylureas, or insulin.
- Ozempic used for weight loss has been causing "Ozempic face" in celebrities.
- Katy Perry was among the celebrities accused of Ozempic use, sparking discussions over her changed appearance.
- Robbie Williams also showed significant facial change linked to weight loss.
- Celebrity misuse of Ozempic has led to shortages for diabetes patients.
Ozempic can also help reduce the risk of heart attack, stroke, or death in adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease.

While Ozempic is not approved for weight loss, some physicians prescribe it for this purpose, as per UC Davis Health.
Ozempic can help with weight loss by reducing appetite, which can lead to the consumption of fewer calories.
“Ozempic face is not really anything unique to Ozempic so much as it is the effect of losing a significant amount of weight,” Dr. Adam Rubinstein, a plastic surgeon in Miami, Florida, USA, told The Daily Mail on Thursday (December 19).
Dr. Smita Ramanadham, a plastic surgeon in New Jersey, added: “We see a loss of volume in the face [with weight loss], and when we lose fat in the face we see signs like the cheeks are more sunken in, more sagging skin and a general hollowing out of the features.

“Sometimes, it can have the effect of actually making a person look older — because the fat in our cheeks is what gives us a more youthful look.”
Dr. Sue Decotiis, a weight loss expert who has prescribed Ozempic to thousands of patients, reportedly explained that weight loss looks more dramatic on those with longer faces because of the way the skin is stretched.
Katy Perry is among the famous personalities to be often accused this past year of using Ozempic and developing the Ozempic face.
The California Gurls hitmaker particularly re-ignited these rumors on Monday (December 16), after fans said that she looked “gaunt.”

Dr. Rubinstein said of Katy: “Her cheeks do look thinner overall, and she certainly does look more angular and thinner. There is also less depth to her face.
“Over a year-and-a-half, this certainly could be because she is using Ozempic, or could also be because she is taking care of herself, going to the gym, and eating well.
“Over that time you can drop quite a bit of weight.”
Lizzo has also been scrutinized over her visible weight loss, which she often flaunts on her social media.
Amid accusations that the 36-year-old singer has been taking Ozempic, Dr. Rubinstein told The Mail that Lizzo had a “tremendous transformation,” adding that, “with or without Ozempic, I applaud what she has been able to do.”

He added: “She looks healthier and there is obvious weight loss between the May photo and the more recent one.
“Her neckline and jawline now really pop, and there is also now the same contour in her cheeks that you couldn’t see before.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if she usedOzempic along with a good program, but the amount of change that she has been able to produce in herself is not something that you can do just by using medications alone.”
Experts highlighted John Goodman, who they reportedly said had drastically less facial volume and, as a result, more loose skin that had formed wrinkles.

Dr. Ramanadham told the British tabloid: “He hasn’t been in the news for anything on Ozempic, so I don’t know if it’s that.
“But even with just weight loss, you see more lines, more wrinkles, and more deflation in his face as he loses weight compared to when he was heavier and his face was fuller.
“These changes are just very typical of overall weight loss regardless of whether weight loss drugs were used.”
The doctor further reportedly ranked Robbie Williams among the celebrities with some of the most prominent Ozempic faces.

Dr. Ramanadham explained: “You can see a hollowing under the eyes and the cheeks and more wrinkles appearing because of a loss of volume.
“With Robbie, you can see the direct results of weight loss.”
Dr. Sue Decotiis, a weight loss specialist, told The Mail: “He looks like a totally different person.
“He has a longer face, which means the weight loss is definitely making him look very drawn.”
Among women, the experts pointed to Sharon Osbourne as a celebrity who has shown one of the most dramatic examples of Ozempic face.

Dr. Ramanadham said: “Her eyes look more sunken in, her cheeks have more hollowing.
“There is a significant loss in facial volume as well, and more wrinkling that is associated with it.”
Lottie Moss, who is famous for being supermodel Kate Moss’ younger half-sister, was reportedly rushed to the hospital after abusing Ozempic earlier this year.
She consequently opened up about the injectable prescription medicine’s dangerous side effects and dissuaded people from taking Ozempic on her podcast, Bored Panda previously reported.

Celebrity use and social media promotion of Ozempic have reportedly contributed to a shortage of the drug, which is intended to treat diabetes.
“The broad shortage of Ozempic seen currently, and GLP-1s in general, has been attributed to the misuse and self-administering of the drug by celebrities and social media influencers who are seeking rapid weight loss,” Dr. Ahmed AK Hassoun, consultant of endocrinology at Fakeeh University Hospital, explained.
GLP-1s is the class of medications to which Ozempic belongs.
“This inappropriate off-label use of Ozempic has led to an unprecedented surge in demand among the general population, resulting in difficulties for diabetics accessing the medication,” Dr. Hassoun added.
“People will do anything to avoid changing their diets,” a reader commented

John Goodman shouldn't be on here. He dropped his weight way before Ozempic was a thing. They're showing a "before" pic from his late 40's and then a current pic. He's looked like that for over a decade now. Maybe BP should just stop judging people on their looks?
I thought that as well. He was losing far earlier than this became a thing.
Load More Replies...This feels rather unkind, but I don't have a great of sympathy for celebrities who are looking gaunt because they have mis-used it. Diabetics, ie people who actually need this to keep healthy, have been finding it increasingly difficult to get hold of their medication. I question the morality for those who are taking it for cosmetic reasons, and depriving those who have a medical need.
Honestly I think it's the result of losing a lot of weight so quickly but I agree with you. There are so many diabetic patients that are having a hard time getting their meds because these people don't want to put the work in or those that are already slim trying to become even slimmer.
Load More Replies...All the pics and videos of Lizzo actually in the gym working out and the fact that her "After" face looks pretty normal tells me that she's not even using it. If they are, so what? Why are people so obsessed with accusing people of using it?
I thought Lizzo looked amazing in that photo and not gaunt at all.
Load More Replies...Shame them for being too fat then shame them for being too thin.
For diabetics, this type of d**g lowers blood sugar. There are serious consequences from that.
Load More Replies...From the beginning of the article....."While Ozempic is not approved for weight loss, some physicians prescribe it for this purpose, ." This is patently false. In both the U.S. and EU, it IS approved for use as a weight loss d**g.
Very sceptical. Once you get to a certain age you get to choose between a flat tummy + gauntness in the face or a chubby tummy + some fat on the face. You don't need pills to get this effect. At least that's what I get from my own observations.
Yes, there is even a saying here in Germany about that: "Mit 40 muss sich die Frau entscheiden, wird sie Ziege oder Kuh." ( Starting at 40 years old each woman has to decide wether she wants to become a goat or a cow" (wrinkly spindly or well rounded out), IMHO opinion it's true.
Load More Replies...Aside from Sharon Osborn who else has stated they are on Oz? Or is it Andrea's latest hit piece? Why does ANYONE care if someone is taking a d**g - legally prescribed? Are we running around asking people if their blood pressure is stable because of a d**g? Or if their glasses are just a way to cheat at seeing? Why is there so much hatred - because it only really plays into the notion that being overweight is solely due to being a glutton and lazy and therefore sudden changes is taking a shortcut! Oz is a forever d**g, the patient STILL HAS TO DO ALL THE WORK, the d**g helps them do that. And if the person stops taking the d**g, well it is much like someone who stops wearing the glasses. And the shortages ARE DONE!
Oh no, someone who is not me and does not have any agency over me chose to do something with their body! I have to post on a “magazine” about it!
Why the hell did Katy Perry use it? Also, Lizzo appears to have glowed up.
I really don't like articles like this. Shaming people for how they choose to lose weight? Saying c**p like they're too lazy to use diet and exercise? I'm sorry, but how tf would you know? My mother has always struggled with her weight and the only thing that has worked for her is ozempic. And it's no one's business, either. Just because they entertain us, doesn't give us any right to have opinions on their bodies. The whole world has lost its freaking mind.
This article should be removed: 1. There is no support for the claim that these people used Ozempic. 2. If they did, it's between them and their physician. Who are you to judge? 3. The concern for the shortage of the med for actual diabetic patients is real, but since obesity and TYPE 2 diabetes are correlated, it shouldn't be a surprise that some people fighting with their weight would be prescribed the med. I have a dear friend who is taking it and she was reluctant because her own daughter has type 1 diabetes, so she knows about the shortage. Yet, she wasn't managing to get to a healthier weight and I'd rather have her get better if it's possible!
Yeah, faces of fat people differ from faces of thin people. What a discovery! JFC
When I hear or read things like "using Ozempic is cheating, it's not real weight loss, etc," what I REALLY hear is "I'm so fvcking jealous and can't be happy for anyone else because I'm a little b!tch!" Jesus, just do your own damn thing and shut the hell up if you don't like it.
Some of this is just normal aging but many are from rapid weight loss as well.
I am taking tirzepatide, a similar d**g. Here is why: 1. My mom and brother had gastric bypass. My mom has regained much of her weight, and my brother is dead. 2. I was skirting type ii diabetes, and this helped get my blood sugar under control. 3. One of its other ancillary benefits is that it calms 'food noise' which helps me tackle my disordered eating. 4. Diet and exercise DO help, but when one weighs almost twice their former weight, with several inuries to their core, one must be careful. This helps me get the dangerous excess weight off, so that i can exercise safely. 5. I have broken old food habits and am forming new ones. 6. Down 50 lbs. Feeling more myself than i have in years. Honestly, i have zero regrets. And during the shortages, i paid out of pocket for a compounding pharmacy to create my injections. I didn't contribute to the shortages. It is unseemly to sĥîť on people's desire to be healthier, however that looks. We don't know if ppl are battling invisible things
Adding here: Highest weight was 235 lbs. Current weight is 185. Comfy goal weight 160. Weight at injuries 130. At 180 i plan to taper my injections to a maintenance dose, and kick up the cardio and weight training, and try to reintroduce good food habits. No one should be crapped on for their desire to be healthier. God forbid anyone use a knee scooter to help them heal a lower leg injury, for example. Tools and technology can and should be used when a body struggles to accomplish the same thing without help. Period.

People can't win in this society. If they're too big they get shamed, they lose weight and get shamed. I’m going to get so many words in this comment censored, but… for f**k’s sake this article is infuriatingly awful. Firstly, ozempic is approved for weight loss. You can argue about whether it’s over-prescribed or how it should be allocated in a shortage, but it’s just straight up b******t that it’s not approved for weight loss. And also, have you considered that some of these celebrities are older? I don’t know if it came up in your s****y “research” (which I can only assume consisted of mashing the keyboard until an unflattering picture of a celebrity popped up), but as people age they naturally lose fat in their face. Maybe Sharon Osbourne’s face looks gaunt because she’s seventy f*****g two? Maybe she’s not had fillers in a while? My f*****g God. I actually think this article crosses into being insidious and harmful
The Doctor expert gave off such ick. Going on about hos great and healthy everyone looks just because they are super thin
This story was posted a week ago and had over 100 down votes. Why is it back?
I don't care about celebrities much , but if they cause a shortage of necessary medicine for sick people just to look better they deserve to be shamed for it.
Of course their face looks different, cause you lose weight in your face too. And they are older. When you weigh less, there's less fat and so lines and wrinkles become more prevalent, regardless of method used in weight loss.
Weight loss injections will save lives, being obese is the main cause of health complications in older men and women, it has fewer side effects than many over the counter medicines.
What absolute nonsense. “Ozempic face” is just what happens when you lose fat from your face - fat gives a fuller look, filling in wrinkles. You lose fat, you lose your natural fillers, so to speak. Ozempic is an amazing d**g and it’s saving a lot of people from health conditions associated with obesity, including diabetes. Prevention is better than cure. It’s not a quick fix, and people shouldn’t be shamed for using something to aid in weight loss - it often puts right the imbalances that cause a slow metabolism and overeating. You actually feel full after eating a small meal. And all d***s come with the risk of dangerous side effects; Tylenol can cause your skin to erupt in blisters and peel off.
These r-soles are the reason why a diabetic medication is rarely available to diabetics. I'm one of them. I had to be taken off it because you don't just go straight onto it, you have to titrate it until you reach the right dose. If you miss too many doses you have to start from scratch and that's when complications set it. Believe me when I say the complications are really bad such as abdominal pains, severe diarrhoea, nausea, tiredness and loss of appetite. Sometimes its temporary sometimes its permanent. I have a permanent eating disorder, tiredness and intermittent nausea because of being messed about with ozempic supplies. I had the other symptoms too but luckily they cleared up after 6 months
Agree with other Pandas that Ozempic and similar meds should only be used by those with diabetes or obesity (which often go hand-in-hand for type 2). Plus the majority of these celebrities are only marginally overweight...
The worst part of BP, in my opinion, is the idol worship. This isn't even mildly entertaining.
As I scroll through and read all these comments...the mean, rude, condescending ones, at least...it makes me laugh. Maybe all of you that are so hateful should post a full body selfie and see what comments people make about you and your wrinkles or cellulite. Nobody is perfect. Then ask yourself, if you had the means to take a medication to change the way you look and feel about yourself...to change your relationship with your partner bc you are more confident...youldn't you? I would.
As obnoxiously wealthy and vain as Hollywood is, you'd think they'd have mirrors...
I'm not on any weight loss medication or diabetes medication. But I've lost weight the old fashioned way and I see the same effects on my face as in these pictures. It's just part of losing weight. You just can't win these days! You're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't!
So...you are showing us the difference between people overweight and their slim face. I have a lot of friends who lost weight healthily and have "that face". It's called weight loss + aging.
Most of them look like people battling cancer. Most were not even close to overweight. The ones who needed it didn't do it for looks. It's crazy to take a d**g with so many side effects when you're not either diabetic or morbidly obese.
Katy isn’t using Ozempic. She’s got insane muscle tone and has been using Orlando as her trainer. She’s cut out all processed foods and sugars and has worked hard for how she looks now. Ozempic eats muscle mass and that’s why you lose your facial structure. She’s strong and lean and toned. Her face isn’t sunken in like the rest of these people..we’re just not use to her with such a low percentage of body fat. Not saying I prefer her like this, but she’s made a lot of changes to get this way
Anyone who rapidly loses weight with or without Ozempic will have the same result!
Losing a large amount of weight with or without Ozempic will have the same result, they have a thinner face!
I didn't see anything that could be described as gaunt. A lot of actors and singers work out for roles and concerts and also people are getting older and losing facial fat. I use ozempic for my diabetes and I've never lost any weight on it but it's excellent for my blood sugar. My only complaint is when the ozempic fad took off for losing weight i went 4 months without it because it was being sold to people .
Whoever wrote this article needs to name the other celebrities in it. I don't know who that blonde celebrity is.
People will have to use this forever. The minute it's stopped, the weight will come back worse than before. It's just a starvation tool, except for those who really need it.
I am diabetic and use a similar injection that works well for me. I'm wondering if their blood sugar goes too low and they suffer the consquences.
Scott disick looks more like the results of d**g use. Not all of them look bad either. Some look like plastic surgery overdone but losing weight will change your face and make your appearance different
How does anyone simultaneously hold the opinions that we are a vastly overweight nation and not want to see anyone actually losing weight? Who cares how they did it? They're healthier thinner than they were overweight. Let them be.
Do you mean to say that losing weight, aging and probable cosmetic surgery changes your appearance??! Well, that’s just crazy..,
Won't fat dissapear from your face irregardless of how you lose the weight? 🤔 It's not like you can choose or change what areas to lose weight in unless you do lipo. Rapid weight loss will cause a rapid change. I do think people should only use Oz as a last resort and if having health issues and not like a counter measure for living unhealthy.
I always lose it from my boobs and my face first. Not much you can do about genetics.
Load More Replies...John Goodman, as has been pointed out, lost a bunch of weight years ago. It's not recent. And Robbie Williams had also slimmed down in recent years - also not new. Hugely misleading "article".
FFS. These people have lost weight and you go after them for the way their faces look?! They are probably healthier and have lower risk of a number of diseases. They have also got older, which brings its own challenges. So what if they use a semaglutide? Well done them is what I say. Life is hard enough without being abused for looking after yourself.
The people who looked gaunt from using this, maybe didn't need it in the first place - except in their head. (ie, in the, you can never be too thin world)
Ah, vanity. Celebrities altering their appearance isn't new. This isn't even newsworthy. Next!
They are skinnier and can afford d***s to achieve it, who the hell cares
It's inaccurate to think you can take Ozempic and then just eat whatever you want. You still need to eat a healthy, balanced diet, low in fats and simple carbs, avoid junk foods and desserts, etc. If anything, it forces you to eat better, because of the side effects that will hit you if you don't. (I'm on low dose Ozempic to control diabetes.)
I was prescribed ozempic because I'm diabetic. (I got it for free on the NHS.) It made me horribly ill, so I gave it up. Also, I found out that it was linked to 20 deaths in the UK. So I thought nope. My doctor might think that if I die, I wouldn't be diabetic any more, but that's a bit too drastic for me.
SIIIIIGH... the irony of posting this, when media focusing on the meatsack rather than the sentient walking around in it, is exactly how we got here.
Not long ago people were attributing it to buccal fat removal. Perhaps we should quit speculating on something that is none of our business. And I say that as a diabetic user of Ozempic.
I am type 2 diabetic. Often cannot get ozempic because of the world-wide shortage. If you have a genuine medical reason e.g. diabetes, metabolic disfunction, are pre-diabetic or are disabled and cannot maintain a lifestyle of exercise and balanced diet, that's ok. But for everyone else i.e. the vain, the lazy, the narcissists, the selfish, many of whom are overusing it for rapid weight loss, understand that to keep the weight off you will need to keep using ozempic indefinitely. And in doing so will increase the risk of known side effects which include pancreatitis, vision problems, gallbladder disease, kidney issues, and thyroid cancer. A just reward methinks.
