Bored Panda dives into the charming and humorous universe of Soup Cat Comics, a fresh and engaging comic series that captures the weird and hilarious aspects of everyday life. Damien, the creator behind Soup Cat Comics, who started their artistic journey inspired by the vibrant community on Newgrounds in 2005, shared with us their story, creative process, and dreams for the future.

They recounted their early inspiration and the origins of their unique comic name: "I was inspired way back in 2005 by the site Newgrounds. It was a huge art community and it got me into buying my first digital drawing tablet and getting a copy of Flash. This was way before the idea of Soup Cat but it's how all this got started! I've always been making comics and during COVID, I started uploading consistently to deal with a breakup I was going through. The name was something that I found through a name generator. I put in 'food' and 'animals' as my interests and it gave me 'Soup Cat,' which I thought was neat!"

The artist detailed their creative routine: "I always carry a sketchbook around to write down ideas when I get them. These are usually scribbles and just ideas, but it gets them out of my head! Later I sketch these in Clip Studio Paint and do a final cleanup pass with coloring. Most of my ideas come from things I see during the day. Just observational stuff."

Damien then shared with us their experiences with community support: "My most memorable interactions are always with my friends and family who are very supportive and love to see my ideas come to life! There have been moments where I've gotten great feedback from Reddit with donations and front-paged. Those I will always treasure as well."

They also expressed a desire to evolve their thematic content: "Most of my themes revolve around me and how I deal with life, there's a lot of dating and existential crises and self-deprecation going on. I want to do more philosophy-type stuff in the future!"

After that, the artist gladly discussed the challenges of creative blocks and community support with Bored Panda, "Honestly, creative blocks are one of the hardest and most frustrating things an artist can deal with. Having a consistent routine helps the most with creativity. Getting started is always the hardest with anything so once you build up a habit of making things and posting regularly, you’ve kind of dealt with it straight away! But still, this is something I'm working on and there are definitely days where it just doesn't work and it can be very depressing. Courage to all my fellow artists out there who struggle with this! Building a strong community definitely helps with this."
