In an interview with Bored Panda, Avi shared what was the turning point that motivated him to go from being a fan of webcomics to creating his own.
Avi responded: “The turning point came when I realized I had many funny ideas in my head that I wanted to see come to life. So, I grabbed a pen, a cup of hot milk, and an overwhelming sense of overconfidence. I started doodling my own jokes. I'm still trying to develop a distinct style, by blending wordplay and quirky scenarios. I basically turned my love for webcomics into an excuse to crack myself up.”
We were wondering how sharing his early comic sketches on Instagram influenced the development of Avi’s ongoing comic strip.
“Posting my webtoons on Instagram was like throwing jokes into the wild—and seeing which ones survived! I have lots of ideas for different web cartoons. The unexpected laughs and comments from followers showed me what worked and what didn’t,” shared Avi.
You might try a glass coffin, but I'm not sure it will help. It remains to be seen.
Avi has been drawing and painting as a hobby since childhood. He shared how his early sketching experiences with different materials contributed to his current style and approach in comic strips.
“My early drawings were basically a trial-and-error—pencils, black markers, and a lot of scribbles. Those experiments with different materials taught me to embrace the messy, spontaneous side of art, which definitely shows up in my comic strips today. My current style is really just a polished version of my early drawings. Now with digital art, I love to use halftone patterns, which I loved to see in newspaper strips I read as a child.”
Lastly, we asked Avi to share his creative process for coming up with new ideas and how he ensures that each strip remains both imaginative and funny.
“My creative process is a mix of chocolate, random thoughts, and asking myself, 'What’s the silliest way this could go?' I usually start with a pun or an absurd scenario, then twist it until it makes me laugh out loud. If it makes me laugh, I know it's worth drawing. I never let logic get in the way of a good punchline!”
That music has scared the heck out of me for decades.
