Before Google Workspace, Microsoft Excel was the king of spreadsheets. It was the go-to software for bookkeeping, data organization, and tracking company payroll, among other essential office tasks.

Excel has also been the subject of memes and jokes from users. This is where online pages like the ExcelHumor Facebook page thrive, where people poke fun at its features and relate them to their daily lives.

Here, all 313,000 members share wisecracks about their trust level in CTRL+V, their challenges with the drag-and-drop feature, and Excel’s relevance on a person’s résumé.

If you’ve ever used Excel for any purpose, these images may bring a laugh or two. Enjoy scrolling through this list, which may remind you of an interesting time in the digital age.

Microsoft Excel is still well-used in the era of Google Sheets. Learning platform Coursera compared the two spreadsheet systems side-by-side, noting some of the advantages of the former.

For one, Excel has a faster processing speed as a desktop application, unlike a web-based platform like Google Sheets. It is also better equipped to handle larger data sets and more complex calculations.

Many users also prefer Excel for data presentation because it allows better customization for PDF conversion. An analysis by Adobe noted that while sharing a PDF spreadsheet via Google Sheets is easier, Excel provides more control options for appearance and formatting.

Users can create an output that looks more professional and well-presented with the added versatility.

Proficiency in using Excel also has its advantages. According to HR and Relationship Management leader Tania Marler, candidates applying for a job have a higher chance of getting hired if they have expertise using the platform since it is widely used in many companies.

“Possessing advanced Excel skills can significantly enhance your employability and open doors to career advancement,” Marler wrote in an article for LinkedIn.

This isn't Excel, it's Outlook. I had a colleague who automatically hit Reply All - even when the boss was asking for personal details, or someone had just told them they were popping out for a few minutes. Only tell people who need to know (or care)!

Apart from enhanced employability, achieving a good level of mastery in Excel can also be profitable. According to June 2024 statistics by Glassdoor, the total annual pay range for an Excel data analyst in the United States is between $81,000 and $129,000. The median total pay is $102,000.

To break it down further, the calculated annual base pay is between $70,000 and $109,000. Then comes additional pay of up to $20,000 per year, which could include cash bonuses and tips.

Provided it didn't take anything else with it (doubtful), I might actually be able to get some work done!!!

Hence the expression, “If you could shave those numbers down, that would be great.”

I write a lot of manuals for work. If you have to insert photos use tables. You can split the tables and have the photo on the side you want and even add arrows and they won't move. Also use page break so what you do on the next page is independent. When you finish go to table properties and make the boarders lines invisible. Save and then save as PDF, send to client. PS. Use a simple paint program like paint net to reduce the resolution of the photos so you save Mb..you don't need 2000x 2000. 400x400 is more then enough for a word doc

When I first saw that Turkish guy, my immediate reaction was.. well, we'll gonna have a new meme coming soon. Didn't expect to be this fast though.

This is the very reason why Excel is thriving. Many apps meant to supersede it are too specialised. They are very structured and methodical. They do not allow any flexibility and edge cases to exist. Real world data are messy and full of edge cases.

In my first few years of university, the university released end semester examination results in bulk for all subjects (every student’s grade was visible to others). During my vacations at the end of those semesters I made spreadsheets of the marks of the top 20% of students. Columns for different subjects and then a total column AND then a ranking column. I just wanted to see where I stood and who my competitors were 🤣 As a medical student Excel wasn’t even something remotely related to my studies 😂

I'm not sure I've seen this meme format before. I'm not sure why, because it's a good one - so relatable and also fits a lot of situations.
