Hey Pandas, Who Was A Celebrity That You Once Respected, But No Longer Do? (Closed)
Pandas, tell me who is a celeb that you once loved, but now cannot stand because of something they did.
This post may include affiliate links.
Mel Gibson. He hates Jewish people and believes that women are useless/below him.
Amber Heard.. need I say more?
Bill Cosby. He was a great TV dad, but after what he did, I wasn't there for him anymore.
There's a bit of mutual respect because he is funny, but I just can't look at him the same way.
Tom Cruise. Loved the movies. But it started with jumping on Oprah's couch and spiraled downward from there. Crazy a$$ Scientologist!
Ellen DeGeneres, I always thought that she was funny and loved her message of acceptance and spreading kindness. Come to find out behind the scenes at her show she allowed a toxic work environment, and many fans have had rude encounters with her. Lost all respect for her.
Old news now, but Jimmy Savile. That man was a hero, always raising money for charity, always on television, a guaranteed money maker, celebrity, charity showman and lots more.
It is hard to imagine how idolised this man was. But take a look at his coffin being taken through the streets of Leeds, it was so surreal, like the death of much loved royalty.
And then it all came out. I have read a couple of books about him, what horrifies me was he had an active paedophile ring in a Seaside town where I went on holiday with my family as a boy.
I know someone who lived in that seaside town, all the parents told their children to stay away from him. It was known what he was but he was so powerful that even if someone complained or went to the police nothing was done. He even had access to a children's ward and he was allowed to visit unaccompanied. He was vile.
Kevin Spacey; Will Smith; Matt Lauer; Jussie Smollett; Rosanne Barr; Marilyn Manson; Ellen DeGeneras; All of the above mentioned… Hmmm,….Maybe it might be easier (or more appropriate?) to ask ‘What celebrity do you still have respect for?’
Elon Musk. He seemed really clever, like Tony Stark IRL. Then he started talking and tweeting.
Elon Musk built his empire on the backs of brown child slaves in the Congo and South America. If you research cobalt or lithium mining and the harm it does to not only our environment, but the people of third world countries, you'd never look at a Tesla the same way again. He's no better than a cotton plantation owner in the 1800's. And people idolize him. I find it beyond disgusting. Every Tesla is covered in the bl**d of child slaves.
all of the celebrities whose names appear on the jeffery epstein flight logs for the lolita express including politicians
Can you imagine all the dirt Ghislaine Maxwell has on the most powerful people in the world?
Mel Gibson. After his drunken anti-Semitic rant and things he's said about women, I'm just done.
Tyra Banks.
I used to think she was a great roll model, and advocated for healthy bodies. That is until after watching several seasons of America's Next Top Model, and after hearing other people's opinions on the show and how the models were treated. Tyra did those models dirty.
As a teenager, I really loved 30 Seconds To Mars and I thought Jared Leto was a kind, wholesome person. LMAO.
Matt Lauer This creep was beloved by millions of Americans. Remember, “Where In The World is Matt Lauer?” He covered the Olympics, Presidential Inaugurations and hosted the #1 morning show. He also sexually assaulted every young woman who crossed his path. Who has an office door that can be locked remotely!? A sick son of a b***h that’s who.
I was such a fan of Hercules when I was younger, but Kevin Sorbo is an idiot.
Kanye West.
Dude needs help. Although he's been quiet as of late. Unless I've tuned him out.
I dont know Many celebrities but I guess Amber heard even though I never had respect for her
Danny Masterson, hilarious comic, and I LOVE That 70s Show, but he turned out to be a serial rapist and scientologist.
Sizzla (reggae artist). He is supposed to be so conscious and righteous but I've seen him go for young girls backstage. VERY young girls. The guy must be 50+.
"I have no white god, don't teach me anything wrong, could u white god save me from white man oppression"....well this is very disappointing to hear. We knew all his songs back when we were in school.
Definitely Will Smith. I grew up watching Fresh Prince, still know all the lyrics, but I don’t think I’m alone in saying it looks like he has showed his true colours now. I won’t click on any of his films or articles now.
I just can't understand how so many people are all of a sudden hating him for defending his wife. Even though SHE may be behind the scenes and controlling him (WE aren't in the relationship so we don't know) but for him, again, he was defending his wife. Did he overreact? Hell yes he did. Does he deserve the backlash he's getting. imo, no. There have been plenty other celebrities that have "thrown tantrums" at award's shows and got a slap on the wrist. Today's society is so quick to shame and cancel someone/thing without batting an eye. Sorry for the rant I just think it's unfair for Will.
ellen degeneres- respected her in the very beginning. then she was horrible to her guests especially taylor swift and mariah carey.
Walt Disney. From birth to... 12? I thought he was a genius, an artist and just amazing, until-
Pope Francis. I had real hope when he was elect to the papacy.
What a disappointment, what a sham, all his humble of the people
posturing…. He still continues to shield pedophile priests, and now
he has accused Ukraine of antagonizing Russia into starting the war.
A GOLF 'celebrity': Jack Nicklaus. From a suburb of my hometown, Columbus Ohio. Considered by many to be one the greatest, if not the greatest, golfers of all time. He's a TRUMPER and an unapologetic defender of that orange a*****e. F**k both of them.
If politics were the basis for losing respect for a celebrity, then: almost every celebrity
Kenny Howard a.k.a. Von Dutch the amazing pinstriper and artist from the 1950's to the early 1990's. It became known he was a flat out nazi supporter and ant Semitic racist putz.
The one my family were just talking about yesterday is Fred Savage. Loved him as a kid but after hearing how he treats people on the set when he directs we are so disappointed.
Used to respect Joss Whedon as a director for his work on the Avengers films, and being a writer in The Cabin in the Woods, but lost it after his time on Justice League (not just for the quality of the film, but also being released in theaters over Zack Snyder's superior version).
The treatment of Ray Fisher (Cyborg) during the reshoots, including labeling Fisher as a bad actor, and verbally abusing him during the reshoots. Gal Gadot and Jason Momoa both came to his support during that time.
Also, since I'm on the DC Movie line of thought, the nonsense that happened with Heard (though, I didn't really know too much about her aside from the couple of minutes of her in Zombieland) and everything currently going on with Ezra Miller currently.
Elon musk. I mean, he was a great inventor and did amazing things but then he started tweeting and sand some pretty anti- trans things and something must have happened at home since his daughter now doesn’t want to be related to him.
Coco Chanel sympathize with the Nazis and she used her position to petition German officials to legalize her claim to sole ownership of parfums Chanel because the official owners Wertheimers were Jewish.
James Woods. A trumper.
Not to mention his treatment of women over the years. Even Seth McFarlane took his name off the high school in Family Guy.
Two actually. Justin Timberlake. He's a fabulous singer and funny when doing comedic roles, but I've just heard too many stories of how arrogant and pompous he is with even some of his most dedicated fans. All the talent in the world cannot excuse a**hole behavior.
Second was Mel Gibson. Thought he was a great actor as well...but his drunken racist and homophobic behaviors just made me never want to watch any of his movies again.
I like genuine people like Keanu Reeves, Tom Hanks and Hugh Jackman.
He seems incredibly likeable. Can't get past his friends making him a wedding video of homeless guys wishing him a happy marriage. Then trying to play it like, It wasn't me! Naah, braah, just every single one of your closest friends you invited to be in your wedding. Zero degrees of separation, professor. Plus letting Janet take the Super Bowl halftime bullet. One gross wimpy spineless response is plenty, didn't need the second. Buh bah bah.
Michelle Jackson
I WOULD say R. Kelly but I didn't ever listen to him so...
i think it would be jackie chan. i had read that he has a daughter and once she came out as gay does not interact with her any longer. maybe it's a cultural thing but i have never understood how you can love your child one moment and the once they declare they are gay they no longer are part of your life. makes no sense.
Movie Stars:
Liam Neeson. I loved him before he starting doing all these recent movies about vengeance. Remember “Love Actually”? “Schindler’s List”? Is he running down a contract and making anything he’s offered to get out of the deal?
Tom Cruise. What a jerk. Abandoned his kids. And I’m sure he knows what happened to the Scientology leader’s wife..
Kevin Spacey. You know why.
Loved Sean Connery until I found out he was a wife-beater.
Loved Amber Heard until I found out she was a husband beater.
Anne Hathaway. Wait — I never liked her to begin with.
JK Rowling. Loved the Harry Potter series at first, then I started reading them with a more critical eye and realized how problematic a lot of it is (the house elves love of being enslaved is the most obvious, but there's a lot of more nuanced BS in there too). And then it turns out she's a transphobic bigot on top of it all.
I still love HP but, even back in the day, I've always found unnerving the fatphobia in the books. I didn't even know the term nor the concept but I've always felt something was wrong. The way she described Dudley, or uncle Vernon and his sister. The fact that no "good character" was really fat. Yes, Molly Weasley is described as plump (not fat though) and yet she is mocked by the Malfoys for that. It was subtle, not blatant, but I perceived it.
Will Smith. My husband won't even watch some of our favorite movies anymore with him in it. We thought Will Smith was a lot more intelligent than the way he acted at the Oscar's.
James woods. When he started spouting MAGA cult and calling others names I vowed to never watch or support anything he does.
I just know this is going to start a fight but Doja Cat. After Noah Schnapp posting those texts between them she went on live and literally dissed a child. Not to mention how she went to Noah out of the whole cast to ask for Josephs Instagram or Twitter as if she can't search him up herself. To me it looks like she just wanted to start drama.
Underdog. Badly needed in Seattle, hasn’t flown in once. The cry goes out both far and near for Underdog, underdog, UNDERDOG!!! Jesus is kinda on my list too.
Ken Jeong. I saw one of his stand-up comedy shows on tv. He used to be a Dr, a primary care physician I believe. So he starts making jokes about giving this woman some type of pelvic exam I guess and how gross her vagina was. It was a really disgusting, shitty thing to say especially coming from a doctor and I don't care if he's retired or not. I lost all respect for him after that. What an a*****e.
Paul Daniels and Rolf Harris, for obvious reasons.
Sia. Friggin' Sia. First her music boarded the one-way train to Shitsville, and then...that movie.
J k Rowling. I loved and still do love the Harry Potter book series but her attitudes towards certain groups of people are actually pretty damaging for someone who has such an influence on generations of young people. Also the Harry Potter book series is full of some pretty hurtful stereotypes which make me cringe when reading the book series as an adult.
Chuck Woolery. Met him and his family at a bowling alley I worked at (long after his TV career ended) and he was a COMPLETE A**E!! His wife was a total sweetheart though.
Dave Grohl- he denies that AIDS is a real disease and that it's just God's way of sorting out the homosexuals of the world - the fact that he's a born-again Christian gets to me as well...
I want a reliable source for this one. I find it really hard to believe.
So this is actually opposite but billy fucilo (or spelled something like that) I used to be so annoyed at him and hated him because of his commercial but when he died I started reading articles and started hearing about how he was a good person, he donated a lot to charity and did other things (I don't know the full story so someone tell me if I'm wrong)
If we're going regional car dealers, the Ernie Boch, Jr. up in New England. He raised money for music in schools, rescued the W**g Center from closing in Boston and airs commercials urging people to be nice to one another. Then he became on of Trump's earliest and biggest supporters, using his money to pay for ads and get Trump the wins in the early primaries in 2016 and propelling his momentum. Sorry, Ernie, I thought you were different from him, but you are as big a d**k as your dad ever was.
None of them anymore. I binge older movies and shows now.
Well, even that's not perfect. There's actors from older movies and shows that were/are not good people
J.K Rowling- I've always wanted to be an author and I respected her rags to riches story...then she got too comfortable on Twitter....
The cast of rooster teeth (minus one or two members). I know that they are not as famous as most of the people on this list because they are mostly internet celebrities. But these people were a big part of my childhood. Seeing the large amount of pettiness and negativity coming from them lately had been sad.
Roger Waters. I'm with him as far as politics go and I think he's brave that way. But then I found out he's Pro-Hunting. Bye-bye, Rog.
Vanessa Hudgens
I used to LOVE Ewan McGregor. But since he imploded his family for Mary Elizabeth Winstead, I just can't watch him anymore. He even threw away his great friendship he had with Charlie Boorman.
He also voiced Rodney in Robots 2005 right? I’m pretty sure he voiced at least someone
This one is going to be a long read, and kind of lowkey answer, especially if you don't watch MMA. I say more of my respect came for his fighting style, and not his character, but Sean O'Malley.
In his early UFC career, he rallied to a win fight after getting kicked in the leg so much to the point of limping during the fight. Started to pay more attention to him, especially after he came back from a layoff. He started becoming unlikeable as a personality after his first professional loss, where he claimed it was a fluke (got dropped with a leg kick, then hit multiple times until the ref pulled him off). Then he got preferential match ups, declining several call outs from rising/ranked fighters. And in his most recent fight against a guy in the top 10, Pedro Muhnoz, accidentally fouls the guy a few times, with the last eye poke/rake leading to his opponent getting a scratched cornea.
Ruled a no-contest, but O'Malley claims it as a TKO win, and even accused his opponent of faking the injury... Despite the medical report showing an injury to his eyes by his cornea being scratched. Talks a big game, fumbles his opportunities against higher profile opponents, and gets preferential matchups in the UFC.
To boil it down to those who don't want to read a long wall of text, had some good showings before he lost, including a victory after getting an injured leg, claimed his first loss (via legit ways) was a fluke, gets preferential matchups, stumbles on big matchups, talks a big game, ducks higher profile/legitimate opponents, and claimed a No Contest due to fouls as a TKO win. And he's also annoying on social media.
Underdog. Badly needed in Seattle, hasn’t flown in once. The cry goes out both far and near for Underdog, underdog, UNDERDOG!!! Jesus is kinda on my list too.
Halsey! Loved her music but ever since I saw that music video (“you should be sad”)of her completely naked riding a horse and just basically skankily sang pretty much naked the whole video, just lost so much respect for her
Alec Baldwin. Guns are not toys
Can't give you this one. I think he was complicit in negligence, but nothing that would warrant destroying his reputation. There are plenty of good reasons not to like the guy, but the shooting accident isn't one of them.
Charlie Sheen. Loved him in Three and a Half Men but then some stuff started coming out about him. I can't remember any specifics but it was around the time that they replaced him with Ashton Kutcher in the show.
And another celebrity I forgot to name is Ezra Miller. Was never too big a fan of them but I loved them as the Flash in Justice League but now there's all this about them harassing a girl and kidnapping an indigenous teen. I just have no respect for them anymore.
Scott Adams. How did he end up being the kind of crazy that usually gets featured in his own strips making Dilbert's life hell?
Susan Sarandon. She supported Bernie Sanders for president. OK... fine. But she was such a bully about it. If you disagreed with her, then you were just WRONG.
Kris Wu, ex-member of EXO (K-pop group).
Billie Eilish. I used to like and respect her because she didn't revealing too much skin despite of having a good body. But after her lingerie photoshoot, I unfollowed her. Yes, it's up to her to wear anything she wants. But I just lost the sight of a female singer who doesn't reveal her skin too much in her, so I walked away peacefully.
Anne Hathaway. Okay, not 100% dislike or disrespect her. It's just I have read somewhere that she was terrible at set and ranked the most difficult actress to work with in Japan. Maybe it's true, maybe it's not. She seems lovely and elegant. One of celebrities who doesn't constantly seek for attention in social media, which is rare nowadays. So I still like and respect her.
I still can't figure out how to add space after paragraph lol. I pushed too much enter. Sorry if it's too hard to read!
J. K. Rowling. I'm sure she's already on this list, but I'm still angry that she created an amazing book series that I love and then proved herself to be a horrible person. Now the books I used to love and cherish are less special to me.
Chris Pratt he seemed to be a fun guy until he married into Arnie’s family, loved him in Guardians and Jurassic but Ithink he’s become more like his character in Wanted
Remember, you first had to respect these people. Many I didn’t to begin with so I skipped ‘em.
