I have suffered from depression & anxiety forever, and anyone who knows me knows my conditions. One time a friend who is quadriplegic told me “Why don’t you just cheer up?” And without missing a beat, I said, “Why don’t you just stand up?” She later told me - that was the first time she had an inkling of what having a mental/emotional condition felt like. Not all disabilities have the same challenges.

I am speaking for my former BF Radana. She changed my thinking on homosexuality which opened my heart in so many ways! We are no longer friends but our relationship was brutally honest and had as many downs as ups....

I was raised in conservative religious but intellectual PA among Anabaptists though we were not. I sort of deduced that sex was for procreation and that many things were not really acceptable (protected heterosexual fornication was No Problem for example). So I was "indulgent" of my gay friends and thought bi was cool with ceryain rules etc. But if a person was actually totally gay that was a result of society I thought, as in parent identification or trauma. I was soooo compassionate to being open to everyone's identifications but I actually thought they were flags for what they were "going through."

My dear R worked me over for two and a half YEARS over this notion of mine and it included thrown drinks and storming off and months of silence and little by little her words were sinking in.

I am very happy to say today that Love Is Love and I love my ex friend R for showing me !

Had coworker who was seriously into that Qanon b.s. Said he wasn’t going to take the vaccine because he had no idea what was in it or what effect the ingredients would have on his body.

I asked him to read the label of his energy drink and tell me what the ingredients did to his body. Other than caffeine, he had no answer.

I've always wondered what happens to a person that they go down these conspiracy rabbit holes.

Before the last election in 2020, I had a co-worker ask me who I was voting for. It was after the primary, so basically between Biden and Trump. I explained that I was voting for Biden. Trump is batshit crazy. If I had my way though, I would have voted for Bernie Sanders.

She started yelling, saying I was a socialist, and that are ruining the country. That socialism has no place in America. That making healthcare, and child care publicly funded would bankrupt the government.

I let her finish, then, with a smirk, I told her, what do you think the police and fire departments are? What about public schools? Thoughs are socialist programs. All Bernie, and other socialist want to do is fold healthcare and child care into the system. Yes, it will raise taxes, but look at the offset. You can go to any hospital, any doctor, anywhere, get seen, get help, maybe pay a co-pays of $25 dollars, done.

Blew her mind, I saw it in her eyes as I was explaining it.

I believe that cognitive dissonance is the toxic puss that covers people’s brains when it comes to logic. Alas, I have have had debates with others about homosexuality. Usually goes like this: “God hates Gays!” Me: Then why did he make so many dif species on Earth like that? “Read the Bible” Me: a book that listed being left handed as a sin? “IT’S A CHOICE!” - Wait, what? I ask the man (bc it’s almost always a man), Do you chose to be attracted to women? Are you into the idea of dating men, yourself? So you’re actually disgusted by the thought? THEN WHY WOULD any straight - like you - man be intimate with another man? Oh, lesse, MAYBE BC THOSE PEOPLE ARE NOT STRAIGHT?? Why would somebody choose to be romantic with someone they are not attracted to?! Why would ppl pretend to be part of a violently oppressed minority w/ less civil rights?! Be with someone they find gross just so they can be a target of hare crimes. A few times ppl have actually stopped to process that. Hmmm.

My ex was very tech uncomfortable. Explaining network security didn't convert him to a cell phone guy but he's a lot more savvy than he used to be

I'll ask it here. If we flopped up on the beach and grew legs or if we evolved from monkeys THEN why aren't species still flopping up on the beach and why don't we see monkeys in the middle of the evolving stage?

Two reasons. A) We aren't around for a long enough time to see this evolution/we just don't notice it and B) Animals don't have reason to do it. Here's an example from Mental Floss of a small evolution in animals, "Climate change is forcing many animals to adapt to survive. The tawny owl in Finland is a good example. These creatures come in two colors, brown or pale gray. The cold white winters have traditionally favored the gray owls, which can hide from predators by blending into a snowy color scheme. But as the winters have become milder over the last 50 years, researchers noticed a shift: gray owls are on the decline and the brown birds are thriving, better suited to blending into the bare brown branches of the forest. As more brown owls survive, more brown genes get passed down through generations. Until now, researchers said, “an evolutionary response to a quantified selection pressure driven by climate change has not been empirically demonstrated in a wild population.”"
