The last job I was in had so much animosity I had to get a transfer. The worst was when I had a raging UTI, manager made me come in since she had a “meeting” and wouldn’t let me go to the doctor until after her lunch break. That’s just one example. She and her little minion supervisor eventually got fired for being pure evil to everyone!

My supervisor insisted on starting everyday with a sexual assault. HR refused to do anything for ages b/c "he was important". Finally, 5 of us were able to report him and got his a$$ fired. He was your typical charming sociopath protected by a broken system. I'm pleased to say that his firing led to some massive internal cultural changes. Culture change is hard, but worth it.

A misogynistic creep of a supervisor who had been previously fired twice and still somehow got his job back threatened to fire me for going "AWOL" for being off work with a doctors note due to being severely ill with morning sickness. Using words he doesn't understand for official documentation clearly shows his level of education. He also told me that I wasn't allowed to show any emotion at work or I would be fired. (I work alone) I had been upset about being attacked by a dog on the job not long after I found out I was pregnant and a different supervisor (new and trying to ingratiate herself to the previously mentioned supervisor) had lied in the report about the incident. It is nearly impossible to be fired from this company (theft and harassment are really the only ways with a heavy burden of proof) so I really had no fear of losing my job over his ill educated tyraid. I didn't want to stress the baby and I was bed ridden for the majority of my pregnancy so I took the rest of my pregnancy off on the doctors advice and had a healthy baby. I won a position at another location before my return to work with an absolutely wonderful supervisor. I later found out that misogynistic supervisor got fired again and didn't get his job back this time. Win-win-win!

I was an engineer at an aerospace company, well versed in math, analysis, and design. One day my manager was entertaining a potential client, and introduced me as his "pet geek" -- his words, exactly. Being called a geek is bad enough, but I'm nobody's pet! I left his department soon afterwards.

Yes. When I worked for a college accounting department as a work study student. I worked my butt off, but the manager we had in charge found work elsewhere and a woman from our grants department was promoted to manager.

She had this attitude that work-study employees were beneath her and that we needed to have our hands held like children. Her solution to someone making a mistake on paperwork was to call a meeting of all the work-study student and point out the mistake, specifically naming the offender.

After the first two times of her doing this, I finally requested a private meeting in which I told her that it was both humiliating and degrading for her to call a meeting because one person made an error and openly call out that person in front of everyone.

She said that she did it to make sure everyone is on the same page and that the mistake wouldn't be repeated. Problem was, I'd worked for that section of the accounting department longer than she had and was friends with the Vice President since I also acted as fill in for the secretaries when they took their lunches. I told him what she was doing...he called a halt to it.

She finally got her regular employees to approach us individually with mistakes so they could be corrected...which is how it was originally done before she was put in charge.

To be fair, this was more about being an oblivious moron than intentionally disrespectful. Either way, it was wholly offensive.

About 6 weeks ago, we were facing a major audit coming up, so all staff have to ensure we're performing to standard processes. My boss (of our three-person team) sends us a link to the location of every process in the business and says "look it over," which is the equivalent of "Final exam next week, I recommend reading the textbook."

He then decides to pick the two most important processes to highlight, and he will train us in depth on those. The first one he picks is the one that we were trained on just 3 weeks ago, 95% of which doesn't apply to our department whatsoever. The second one he trains us on is the process that I personally wrote and trained our group on, less than two years ago. Not only was it insulting to have my own words read back to me, but doubly so because he was reading right off the document as if he's seeing it for the first time, so it was obvious that he wasn't paying any attention when I was training him.

As of today, I became the second person from that team to leave. :)

I worked for a small company. The owner was a text book psychopath. Very charming and would start out telling you how great you were and how amazing the company was. Then he would quickly switch back and fourth between praising and degrading you. Actually his biggest reason for tearing someone down was if they expressed any desire for work life balance. They were scum and didn't deserve to work there. It obviously felt great when he would talk you up, but then would demand more of you in return. I once spent 8 hours dealing with problems caused by the weather and then he wanted me to start my "regular" work day to get my normal responsibilities done. I could see a few more hours, but he wanted another 8. He also tried to not pay for meetings (illegal).

I was a sales person at a furniture store. Our experimental branch was being shut down by head office. We knew it would happen eventually but it still was surprising when it did. As a result of our storefront being closed our hours of scheduling started to become very inconsistent because we were packing up things through the day. Very quickly I noticed I often was being scheduled to work bright and early. This was weird as while we had been open I almost always closed. Eventually there were fewer and fewer people there in the morning until it was consistently just my manager and I. One day I noticed I was scheduled an entire hour and a half before someone else was coming so I asked him what he needed me to do (I assumed he maybe needed me to do some tech stuff). He literally responded: I just wanted someone here to look pretty for me. I figured it's boring and maybe if I have something pretty to look at while I do my job it might be less boring. So go make me a coffee hun and then just keep me company... maybe put on a little more makeup then sit right here until the others arrive." ... wtf. He got up and DRAGGED the chair I was in over to be right at his desk... that was the last week or so of being there before we both moved to two new locations for the same company.

I think, if I were calm enough to take the high ground, I would get up, drag my chair back to where I was comfortable, turn it so he couldn't see me, tell him my job would be less boring too if I had something pretty to look at, and promptly report him. Yet somehow I feel that isn't a strong enough response for that level of blatent and antiquated disrespect. Others may agree to a swift and well placed kick as an appropriate response, and I wouldn't condemn them for a moment.

I worked at waffle house for a couple of years. And management changes ever so often, mostly changing managers and such. Last October, we had a new manager. One that would push me to the brink and walk out in anger. Bit of back story, i work by myself, and im autistic on top of that, high functioning. I don't work with anyone else, but i do help out the waitress with cleaning off the tables and getting people in seats. I'm basically the host for the place i work at. This new man basically had a huge ego and a tiny d**k. He was a guy who would always look over everyone's shoulders so u do the right thing :) .

He was okay at first, then he started to show his true colors. He was getting to a point were he would criticize everything anyone did.

Fast forward a few weeks, it's out of control. I come in and we have only 5 people here, 2 waitress, 1 cook, him, and me. We had to close a lot of the restaurant because covid and noone wants scab wages anymore. People come in and i seat them. Nothing out of the ordinary yet. But then i had 2 big groups, a group of 8 and a group of 6. I told them it'll be a long wait cuz we have only a couple of tables or they could go somewhere else. This b***h loses it, in his mind. he comes up to me and says "what are you doing?!?! We just lost to familys!!" I'm just waiting there like, "what?? I told em to sit down there for a long while or go somewhere else." He says "okay". And goes back behind the line. Then i come over to wipe off a table that just got up and finished, he comes over to me and says the one thing, you never ever want to hear from anyone. "You need to be RETRAINED." I f*****g lose it, i toss the rag onto the table, i tell him he can "take this job and shove it, i ain't working here now more." And he threatens to write me up but I'm out the door before he can do so. I then call my mom to pick me up and take me home. After a few days, i call my district manager who's over the UM, and i got a better location. Its much closer to home and the people i work with aren't triple my age.

Principles and assistant principles have a habit of instructing to you do what you are already doing. I asked the AP what the procedure to follow was, she responded with "you're job is to do what I tell you to do." No s**t, I think I just asked you what you want me to do. Had a principle tell me to be professional and she decided how equipment was to be used. This in a meeting I requested to say we needed her/them to decide how the allocate the equipment. Most principles are useless ladder climbers. Don't ask permission and never beg forgiveness. Just get it done, wait for them to move on, and pay your union dues.

I don’t know if this should go here because its not a job really, and there was no “supervisor”. But what happened is that when I was in like 5th grade, my class was playing, I think kickball. During witch I was hit pretty good in the arm. And as a kid it hurt a lot. What did the teacher say when I told him it hurt and I was legitimately starting my to cry, and oh by the way some of my bullies started laughing at the fact I was crying? “You need to grow thicker skin, both literally and figuratively.”
I was furious about that and am still very salty if that day.

I was a secretary when a manager told me i was not hired to think. And i am still thinking about a good comeback. He was the kind that gets their hair cut on officehours, cause it grows on officehours. I quit that job shortly after. That actually made my boss cry, cause i was not the first one leaving for obvious reason.

I used to work for a Family owned Staffing company that specialized in truck drivers, after my truck accident which took me out of driving I started working in the corporate office in Sacramento, CA. I became friends with the Owner and his daughter.

After about 2 yrs as a recruiter there I was asked if I wanted to move to Nashville, TN and take over an office as a branch manager. I accepted the promotion and my my 7yr old daughter and I moved to TN. Everything went well. After a couple of years business slowed down, I step down as manger and became a dispatcher.

When my new manager wasn't having anymore luck that I was in increasing revenue, the regional manager began to question her abilities. She then proceeds to thro me under the bus, runs me over and back up a couple of times. I get written up.

Fast forward a couple months later the Atlanta, Ga office still hasn't taken off after 2yrs of trying. My previous manger convinces the owner to give me a shot. So again I move to Atlanta for the company. The current staff really resented me taking over and along with the regional manager proceed to get me fired even though after I took over sales had increase from $10k per week to around 50K a week.

About a month after getting let go the regional manager steal all of the company's client list and locations and starts his own competing Staffing Company, my coworker who lied about me, got caught lying to a major customer and cost the company their business for the entire US.

Karma is a real B***h

The boss who hired me left the company and I never gelled with the next two supervisors. I ended up getting sacked after a decade, but with a nice severance and unemployment. What they didn’t know is that I had planned to leave the company around that time to retire and move to another state. I got unemployment for six months, then again a year later, THEN pandemic benefits. If I had quit, I would have gotten nothing, but by getting fired, the company (and its insurance company) paid me money for three years.

I spent 12 long years working in the dental field, eventually making it to office manager. Every office I worked at had toxicity issues, it’s just the way the dental office model is, but my first office was the worst. It was actually two different practices in one building. A young doctor ran one side and an older doctor ran the other. They each needed a tech to help out with things like sterilizing instruments, developing and mounting X-rays, setting up treatment trays, filing, etc. All the lesser jobs that tie up an assistant’s time. But they didn’t want to have to pay for a full time employee so they figured they could just ‘split’ me and I would be part time for both of them. That meant no benefits, no overtime pay, no holiday bonuses. The most I got from them was a Christmas tree ornament. I also could never figure out why the staff on the younger doctor’s side was always so hateful to me. Like I had to actually design a chart to check off all my daily duties as I did them because she constantly accused me of skipping things and would tell the doctor. I found out after I had been there almost two years that right before I started working there, he told his staff that he would no longer be giving them their big bonuses, only much smaller ones, because he just ‘couldn’t afford it with having to pay for another employee’ and that the older doctor was forcing this on him. Of course his assistant hated me. I quit not long after that, and I heard from the other office staff that he never did start paying the bigger bonuses again even though they never filled my position.

I worked at a grocery store for a couple of months as a bagger/cashier. I got really sick one morning with the worst body aches ever when I was supposed to open the store at 6 am. I followed policy and called the manager at 4am and told her I couldn’t come in. She asked ,”who’s going to sweep my floors?” Not me. I quit not too long after that and put in my two weeks. On my last weekend before I started my new job, I was scheduled to open and on my last night, close at midnight. I had to be at my new job at 8 am and didn’t get home until 1am. A lot of my schedule was random and at one point I worked 12 days without a break and was working 38-39 hours so I couldn’t get any benefits. The front end manager would take at minimum a half hour to bring the override key for refunds and was once seen refinancing her truck while at work instead of helping. Also, you do not get between an old lady and an expired 50 cent off coupon. They’re vicious. I never want to work retail again.

Decades ago, I was an assistant manager at a young men's retail chain. The manager was such an a$$h0!3 that on my day off, he called me at home to tell me everything I did wrong the day before. Many years later, I found a wonderful therapist who pointed out that he was likely bipolar. He was ultimately transferred and I never saw him again. I hope he rots in h3!!. I worked at a Fashion Bug store when I was 19 in the mid 2000s. They’ve since gone out of business. Whenever there was a schedule conflict with college classes, they would say they wish they could just sit around at a desk instead or working (easy clothing store) region. When I kept telling them I need Sundays off because I am a Christian and I observe the sabbath, they would give me grab about it, say things like “I wish I could get Sundays off! I don’t have to give it to you” even though they very easily could have scheduled someone else who would have loved the time and a half. I was too young to know my legal rights at the time. They would randomly change the schedule and not tell people-or take away all their hours for a couple weeks or limit them to a couple of the same days for w while-suddenly change the schedule before the employee could know of the change, then fire them for being a no show. They’d constantly call on my day off on short notice asking for me to come in-then give me c**p like “so do you want to work here or not?” When I’d tell them I couldn’t come in. Eventually they just stop scheduling me entirely…right after New Years so I’m not sure what happened but they never told me. I’d just keep checking the schedule (because I’d seen what they did to others) and it was zero hours week after week. Eventually I just started asking over the phone-and after a couple weeks I just asked am I even still on the roster? They then invited me to write a new application…I told them I’m all set. It was incredibly toxic.

My little experience actually caused me to quit. I know it sounds dramatic but let me explain. I had been working at this job for a little over 3 months and was assigned to the shift where you practically do everything. I was told by all of my coworkers that I was doing a really good job.
On to my supervisor experience. On my last day(because I quit) someone who I didn't know was the supervisor came in. She asked if I was OP and then didn't even introduce herself before telling me what I was doing wrong and that I needed to do things better and faster. This instantly upped my anxiety to what felt like 1000% when she realized what was going on she told to not be a drama queen and to stop the tears. She laid into me and then told me to go home(I still had 4 hours in my shift) and think of how I was going to do better. I called my mom to pick me up and she helped me calm myself enough to try talking to her again. I asked if we could talk outside because of costumers. She acted like I was going to stab her or something. She said I don't do that and proceeded to invite my mother into the kitchen and call the other manager (who didn't like me either) over to "give me advice" Let's just say even through tears I was done. I quit then and there.
P. S. When I called to complain about the managers to the owner I found out she was the owner.

I work for the department of corrections in the states and actually like my job for the most part because it relates directly to public safety. My exact role is maintenance and I supervise an offender work crew that does maintenance around the facility.

When I first started the job it was at a high level state prison and I was given nearly %100 autonomy to order parts and materials and higher contractors as needed and there was never any issues as I got my work done. When I was hired I realized pretty quickly that the department was understaffed and it remained sodue in part to the facility location and the slow process of job posting and interviews which could all take 6 months.

A year and a half into my career was when the head of the agencies maintenance came and told us we were going to be privatized and we had 3 choices of transferring, getting on with the private company ( never a good idea because the pay is so much worse ) or resign. I ended up taking a transfer and this is where things changed. My new not official boss decided that I didn't know how my pay schedule was when I was at the first facility despite my having twenty months of payroll forms that stated otherwise. It took a superintendent from another facility to show he was wrong and he never apologized to me for treating me like I was stupid.

The next time was him yelling at me about something trivial and doing it in front of my inmate workers, this happened twice and even though he apologized it wasn't in front of the workers. He regularly referred to almost everyone as a dumbass and stupid and his racism was just subtle enough that it would be very difficult to prove to HR. Thankfully he's working at another state agency and is their problem now but he's not the worst boss and he was better than the one he replaced when I was working for him but that's for another story.

BP staff please remove my last name so that I don't have to deal with workplace retribution.

I was working as a CNA (certified nurse assistant) at a nursing home and I had barely been there a week. I was put on night shift and was told I had the area with the bed ridden people to myself, no help. That area needed 2 people (turning patients who were unable to move so they didn’t get bed sores as an example). The nurses sat all night at a desk and wouldn’t assist when I needed help. I was yelled at and told I wasn’t working fast enough. People had to lay in urine because I couldn’t get help. In the morning, I went home and saw my mom watching TV. I was heading downstairs to my bedroom when I had a seizure in the stairway (my seizures were controlled for 13 years prior to this). When I came too, my parents let me know and I went to sleep. Later that day, I woke up and my dad drove me to see the head of office at the nursing home. I told her how the night went and how concerned I was for not being able to give proper care because the nurses wouldn’t help. The lady looked at me and said I wouldn’t never amount to anything if all I was going to do was complain and be lazy. I quit on the spot. I was in college for nursing and it was hard to see how poorly the people were treated. The place went out of business about a year later.
