I spent 3 months in Australia totally unaware of the what spiders exist there. I was aware of Red Backs, but that was it. On my return from Oz I then learnt about Huntsman spiders, Funnel Web spiders et all. I love spiders, I do, they eat flies for a start. But If I had come across any of these, I would have shat myself.

Just seeing a fluffy skein of wool yarn makes me feel stuffy in my nose and cringe. I love petting animals but furs, real or fake, weird me out to no end. I also have a fear of steep dropoffs and cockroaches. My husband teases me when I do the B horror movie little girl scream when I see one (shivers at the thought of those little nuke avoiding demons).

Thalassophobia- fear of deep water and hamaxophobia- fear of driving. I have had my learners permit for about 7 years now coz I am terrified of driving. It’s not the other people on the road that scares me, it is the fact that I am in control of something so big that one mistake can kill someone. My psychologist said it is the lack of confidence in my abilities. I need to find a way to get over my fear soon coz I want to go and study but where the courses are held that I want to do is a 2 hour bus ride away.

Athazagoraphobia is a fear of forgetting someone or something, as well as a fear of being forgotten. For example, you or someone close to you may have anxiety or fear of developing Alzheimer's disease or memory loss.

Honestly, I've never really been afraid of much. I've jumped off a 150 foot bridge (bungie jumping), ridden the tallest roller coaster in the US and stood on the outdoor observation decks of some seriously high buildings.

    But now?

Total germaphobe. Total anthrophobe. Neophyte claustrophobe.

    All because of stupid COVID19.

I wash my hands compulsively. I stay as far away from other people as possible and avoid going out unless absolutely necessary. Enclosed spaces are a big no-no...if it's not a cavernous supermarket, I'm not going inside.

I have SEVERE arachnophobia, slight scopophobia depending on the enviorment, athazagoraphobia, ect ect.

On arachnophobia, I am still afraid to enter a room in the house, as there was once a big spider in there. Despite being removed and put in the shed, I have not gone in there in a good few months, unfortunately the ice cream is there, so may I rest in peace. If I see a spider big enough, I will not enter that room until I can confirm no spiders are there. Long legs too. One jump scaring is enough to trigger a breakdown and cause me to tremble and cry. On scopophobia, I used to become alert of the sounds in my area, and become sensitive, thinking someone was there to kill me. I still have this fear sometimes.

This is understandable, especially if you have been conditioned by if you know someone who is a hypochondriac and never stops talking about their perceived ailments. Or if you have suffered someone near to you having a serious ailment and/or passing from illness. It is a natural reaction to want to avoid those discussions as they can cause worry, stress and grief.

This is awfully common, but I have severe arachnophobia. I can't tolerate seeing any size or type of spiders; fictional or not, venomous or not, harmful or not, I fear any structure or being that resembles a spider. Even seeing cobwebs is enough to petrify me. Sometimes it messes with my appetite heavily, and I won't go into details of that.

I have learned that phobias exist for a variety of reasons, or so it is theorised. Some say it rises from our primitive survivalist instincts, some say it's inherited genetically. I'd very much like to know /why/ I fear spiders to this extent. My family members dislike pests, but none of them is arachnophobic.

As long as I could remember, I've been afraid of spiders. Maybe my first exposures to them was this nursery rhyme called Miss Muffet, but again... That would be irrational. ;D

You would not like living in my neighborhood right now. It's spider (web) central right now. I live in Seattle, and there are webs all over our house right now. I could walk around the block and run into two or three, usually with my face. I sat on our front porch for a couple minutes about a week ago, within two minutes I discovered a web going to my phone from one of our potted plants. Yeesh.

Equally snakes, clowns, and being buried alive. In no particular order. And I haven't bothered to look up what those fears are called. Could that be another phobia?

I'm 15. So far I have discovered that I have basophobia (fear of falling), atychiphobia (fear of failure), and a very odd one, Hnirshunphobia the fear of dirty dishes. Or, in my case, trying to clean those dishes. This kinda mixes with my atychiphobia where my fear stems from being scared that I'll do a bad job doing the dishes and get yelled at by my parents. Just looking at those disgusting things makes me immediately want to jump into my bed and hide under the covers. This fear has caused me to break 3 glasses, 2 plates, 1 chopstick, and have about 12 panic attacks. Yayyyyyyy....

Arachnophobia, fear of spiders. Even seeing them in images kills me inside. Sorry spiders, I just can’t. I live in Australia, and it’s common to see them. But they are seriously terrifying.

Katsaridaphobia, fear of cockroaches. I will explain my story. I once was using the bathroom in my grandparent’s home. Out from the roof, while I was on the toilet, a cockroach suddenly fell. That was not funny.

Trypanophobia, fear of needles. They’re just so sharp and scary. I’m fine looking at them in a super far distance. It just, is so damn scary when I get a shot. It also hurts for a few days.

    Hippopotomonstrosiquipdaliaphobicphobia.

I am afraid of people afraid of long words

Also, who ever invented hippopotomonstrosiquipdaliaphobia was obviously mean; people afraid of long words had to say a long word to describe their phobia

The name was done on purpose to try and help said people get past their phobia. Read a whole thing about it recently actually quite interesting

Acrophobia, arachnophobia, and nyctophobia. And yes, nyctophobia is fear of the dark. I'm not afraid of the dark, I'm afraid of what might be in it.

I have claustrophobia (which is not the fear of small spaces - it is the fear of suffocation and it is often triggered by small spaces, but not wanting to walk into a closet is not claustrophobia). I am in therapy for it. I also have a fear of driving down a mountain or steep grade, losing control of the car and careening off the embankment.

Lepidopterophobia . As a school librarian, I will admit we have the worst collection of butterfly books b/c I won't buy them!!

Trypophobia. I hadn't hear of that before, but I have seen the pictures online of people with small holes in their skin. I couldn't look away but it sickened me at the same time. I don't mind other small holes, so for me it's just on skin.

I also have claustrophobia, thanatophobia, and patho/latrophobia. The fear of being confined in a small space, the fear of dying, and the fear[s] of doctors/disease, ever since my first 'test'. Thanks, covid-19.
