Any mythology fans here? My favorites are Jason from Greek myhthology and Tyr from Norse mythology.

Old English and Irish fey and faeries, especially changeling legends. They’re fascinating, and much, much darker than the current sparkly, butterfly winged fairies in popular culture.

I strongly dislike Greek gods… pretty much all of them are rapists and stalkers. It’s disgusting.

To change it up since everyone else covered most of my favorite greek and norse pantheon gods. I'm going to add Sekhmet to the list.

She was a sun goddess in the Egyptian pantheon, daughter of Ra. She was a war goddess known for her bloodlust.
She is also the bringer and ender of plagues and was healer from plague and battlewounds.

I loved Egyptian mythology since I was quite young but her main story always stuck with me.

She was essentially the vengeful force of Ra. She was sent to destroy the humans who had tuened against him, in the form of a giant lioness. She became so bloodthirsty she wouldn't stop at the end of the battle and went on to try to destroy all of humanity. Ra mixed beer with red dyes (varies) to trick her into believing it was blood. She drank it, becoming docile (or falling asleep... again, varies) and is able to be subdued. Angry that she was deceived she leaves, causing the sun to weaken and the desert to cool and the crops to die. Thoth (God of the moon and wisdom) was sent to convince her to return.

This story became an annual thing where the Egyptians would get drunk to simulate how drunk she had to be to stop her wrath.

I'd like to think it was like Egyptian st patty's day. Mixing red dyes in their beer and drinking wine to get real drunk.

Apollo has been recognized as a god of archery, music and dance, truth and prophecy, healing and diseases, the Sun and light, poetry, and more. Hermes is the god of messengers and the messenger of the gods.

As a Finn, I have to mention the Finnish goddesses. Sauna gnomes are always mentioned and we have quite the same tradition as in Sweden. Sauna has its own spirit in Finland called Sanervatar. She was asked for help because births took place in the sauna, the sick were treated there and the dead were bathed there for the last time. It's a shame that Christianity wiped out so much of our culture. For example, all that remains of the goddess of lust named Lempo is a few naughty chants. Our mythology also tells about the goddess of the forest, water and death. It's empowering to feel that you belong to a culture where things are asked of women.

I've always been fascinated with Greek and Roman mythology and one of my favorite myths is that of Arachne. It's always been so interesting to me. Fun fact: I had a rock/gem collection in second grade and I probably had about 100 gemstones all named after mythology characters.

Arachne is a great example of the gods being asshats. Athena is often one to abuse women in particular. Like father, like daughter I suppose.

Dionysus rocks. Who could dislike the god of alcohol and queerness? Everything about them is awesome

He was one of the few gods who seemingly loved his wife. He had a lover named Ampelos, but i believe he died before Dionysus meet Ariadne on Noxos. Lots of myths about how she died, or what came after, but in almost all of them, he did right by her. Which in Greek mythology is rare.

ymir the giant, from norse mythology. not because he’s a particularly interesting, but because his story shows how f****d up the norse were. take the time to read the story, it’s worth it. once upon a time, there was an abyss with no ends, called ginnunga-gap. above ginnunga-gap was the ice realm niflheim, which had a magical river flowing through it. the magical river flowed into ginnunga-gap, freezing and creating mountains of ice. the ice then fell towards the realm of fire, muspelheim, turning into steam which rose up to niflheim and began to layer. eventually enough layers were formed to create ymir, the first frost giant. all alone, ymir began to search for food, when he came across a cow, who had milk flowing perpetually from its udders. the cow in turn began to lick a block of ice, which started to show the outline of a man trapped inside. over the days the cow was licking, ymir fell asleep. while he slept two giants were born from the sweat of his armpits, and and a six headed giant, thrudgelmir, was born from his feet. i’ve said the most important stuff, so i’ll gloss over the rest. the ice person turned into the first god, the god created a child, the child, buri, married a giant, had three more children, odin, vili and ve. the giants and the gods fought. ymir was slain and a flood of his blood killed all the frost giants except two. odin and his brothers then created the world with ymir’s blood as the oceans, his skull as the sky, his brains as the clouds, the world out of his muscle and bone, and his eyebrows and teeth as his teeth as the fence around midgard to keep the giants out. that’s why ymir is my favorite mythological character
