Coco actually surprised me when we find out that Ernesto De La Cruz murdered Hector and stole his music and guitar. Also, the reveal that Hector was actually Miguel's great great grandfather, not Ernesto. Usually I'm on the ball on plot twists, but this one was surprisingly dark and the reveal suddenly turns Hector, who up until then, seemed like the comedy relief in this film, into a tragic character.

The Crying Game

Plot twist is still most shocking I can recall. Can't say it without totally ruining the movie but considering the time in the 1990's and the love story involving IRA soldiers before 9/11.

One of the best plot twists I've seen is from an 80s film called The Telephone. Whoopi Goldberg spends 2 hours in her apartment talking on the phone. The end comes when the phone company comes to confiscate her telephone for nonpayment. She tells the guy how badly she needs her phone but when he tells her the service has been cut for 2 weeks, she kills him with the phone. Terrible movie, great end.

There's this amazing movie from 1996 called Primal Fear starring Edward Norton and Richard Gere. ***SPOILER ALERT***

So basically this kid is found running from an apartment with blood all over him, and in the apartment is the body of a well-respected priest (or maybe a bishop or something idk). Throughout the movie you find out that the kid has split-personality disorder, and you are led to believe that his split personality is who killed the guy. Come to find out, the priest was forcing him into $exual activities with his girlfriend. So the kid brutally murdered him and then pretended it was because of his other personality.

TL;DR: A kid pretends to have split-personality disorder so he can kill someone.

Saw "The Blair Witch Project" before it was widely known to be a dramatisation rather than actual found footage at a small indie festival in my home town. So I guess the plot twist was 'it was all faked' but dang, it was so convincing at the time.

I was thinking of The Prestige, a movie so well made that the twist happens after you stop watching it.

There never was any magic. The transporting machine was simply a distraction, and the whole movie is a magic act. Are you watching closely?

The Game with Micheal Douglas and Sean Penn. Without spoiling it. Sean Penn plays Douglas' character bother. Douglas' character has all the money he need so he buys what he wants Penn's character is less wealthy and buys his brother in this thing called the Game. Craziness ensues and it you aren't really sure what is happening is it real or not just to lead to that ending.

For me it would be: Sirius Black dying in "Order of the Phoenix". I mean, Harry has finally something near a father and then Sirius dies!!!! So unfair...

The most famous one, I always thought, was ruined by becoming a cliche long before I saw it. The space alien lands in a strange world where apes rule and people are kept in zoos, circuses, etc. At the very end, he discovers something terrible which makes him realize he isn't where he thinks he is at all: the Statue of Liberty, half buried in the sands of time. Earth has been over-run.

The Village. It took me ages to see what was going on, and when she climbs over the fence around the forest, I was like OMG i did not see that coming! I suppose there is a hint/giveaway when the councillors of the village call a meeting to discuss whether she must go get medicines from "the towns", and you see something subtly different about their clothing style.

Not the most shocking plot twist, but one of the most profound:

Even Frodo couldn't destroy the ring. But he -- and Bilbo -- had shown mercy towards the most pitiable, wretched creature in the world. And that creature, even in the very throes of its villainy, destroyed the ring. Gandalf even telegraphed it: "Pity? Pity was what stayed Bilbo's hand... The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of us all."

(SPOILERS FOR RED NOTICE WHICH IS AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!) It was when Hartley and the Bishop were working together and just using Booth to get to Cleopatra's third egg. I was NOT expecting that. I also wasn't expecting Ryan Reynolds to say, "WHAT THE FFFFFFFFFFF**K?!?!?!" in a PG-13 movie.

Old boy. The original movie. When you see at the end that the main character is being punished for a rumour he spread as a teenager about a brother and sister having sex (in his defence, they were actually having sex). The punishment is letting him fall in love and having sex with his own daughter. Oh yeah and killing his wife and keeping him trapped for 15 years in a room. So yeah.
