e.g. Darth Vader is Luke’s father.

"I see dead people". When Bruce Willis realizes that he has been dead all along.
Saw it in a packed theater opening weekend. Nobody knew the twist! It was a total shock… the entire audience gasped, some people even screamed. It was amazing 😳
The reveal of Norman Bates' dear old mom!
Saw - the Jigsaw killer was lying on the floor in the room with them all along, pretending to be dead. Simple, but it blew me away.
Didn’t see it coming at all & I usually have at least a feeling. Nope, totally blindsided!
First time I watched the usual suspects thought I hadn't all figured out I was wrong
Watching it the second time you can’t believe you missed all the clues
Coco actually surprised me when we find out that Ernesto De La Cruz murdered Hector and stole his music and guitar. Also, the reveal that Hector was actually Miguel's great great grandfather, not Ernesto. Usually I'm on the ball on plot twists, but this one was surprisingly dark and the reveal suddenly turns Hector, who up until then, seemed like the comedy relief in this film, into a tragic character.
"Soylent Green is people! Soylent Green is people!!!"
The taste of which, much like Soylent Cola, varies from person to person.
The Crying Game
Plot twist is still most shocking I can recall. Can't say it without totally ruining the movie but considering the time in the 1990's and the love story involving IRA soldiers before 9/11.
Agree totally. A friend who had already seen it dragged me to see it for the pleasure of seeing my face when the twist was revealed. Except it wasn't totally revealed. Everyone had to wait until the Academy Awards for that. THE BEST.
One of the best plot twists I've seen is from an 80s film called The Telephone. Whoopi Goldberg spends 2 hours in her apartment talking on the phone. The end comes when the phone company comes to confiscate her telephone for nonpayment. She tells the guy how badly she needs her phone but when he tells her the service has been cut for 2 weeks, she kills him with the phone. Terrible movie, great end.
There's this amazing movie from 1996 called Primal Fear starring Edward Norton and Richard Gere. ***SPOILER ALERT***
So basically this kid is found running from an apartment with blood all over him, and in the apartment is the body of a well-respected priest (or maybe a bishop or something idk). Throughout the movie you find out that the kid has split-personality disorder, and you are led to believe that his split personality is who killed the guy. Come to find out, the priest was forcing him into $exual activities with his girlfriend. So the kid brutally murdered him and then pretended it was because of his other personality.
TL;DR: A kid pretends to have split-personality disorder so he can kill someone.
Oh man! I totally forgot about this! Thank you so much! Ed Norton's shift at the end gave us the willie's for weeks!! Incredible performance 😱
When I went to see "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" I hadn't seen any of the previews yet, so I was pleasantly surprised to see Arnold's T-800 be the good guy when he said "Git Daown!"
Saw "The Blair Witch Project" before it was widely known to be a dramatisation rather than actual found footage at a small indie festival in my home town. So I guess the plot twist was 'it was all faked' but dang, it was so convincing at the time.
I knew it when the girl walked out of her tent in the morning. Her missing friend's heart play outside her tent door. Her long black hair was down. She freaks out holding the heart, getting blood all over her hands. Next shot shows her down at the creek, still freaking out while she washes the blood off of her hands in the creek. Her long hair was in a perfect french braid. Anybody who has long hair that she french braids herself knows that it takes a steady, clean hand to do this time consuming act.
I was thinking of The Prestige, a movie so well made that the twist happens after you stop watching it.
There never was any magic. The transporting machine was simply a distraction, and the whole movie is a magic act. Are you watching closely?
The Game with Micheal Douglas and Sean Penn. Without spoiling it. Sean Penn plays Douglas' character bother. Douglas' character has all the money he need so he buys what he wants Penn's character is less wealthy and buys his brother in this thing called the Game. Craziness ensues and it you aren't really sure what is happening is it real or not just to lead to that ending.
Yeah, I read the books.
For me it would be: Sirius Black dying in "Order of the Phoenix". I mean, Harry has finally something near a father and then Sirius dies!!!! So unfair...
But the movie was shocking too. I love Gary Oldman!
The most famous one, I always thought, was ruined by becoming a cliche long before I saw it. The space alien lands in a strange world where apes rule and people are kept in zoos, circuses, etc. At the very end, he discovers something terrible which makes him realize he isn't where he thinks he is at all: the Statue of Liberty, half buried in the sands of time. Earth has been over-run.
Book of Eli. I’m not going to spoil it, but it’s a movie where you think you understand what’s going on until the end, then you go Holy hell…WTF, and watch it again to actually understand the main character. Blew my mind.
The baroness is cruella’s mother
In ' Rocky Horror Picture Show ' when it was found that everyone except for Janet and Brad were aliens from another Galaxy.
bridge to Terabithia. i cried
I thought this was a kids film when I started watching was was really not prepared AT ALL!!!!
The Village. It took me ages to see what was going on, and when she climbs over the fence around the forest, I was like OMG i did not see that coming! I suppose there is a hint/giveaway when the councillors of the village call a meeting to discuss whether she must go get medicines from "the towns", and you see something subtly different about their clothing style.
Not the most shocking plot twist, but one of the most profound:
Even Frodo couldn't destroy the ring. But he -- and Bilbo -- had shown mercy towards the most pitiable, wretched creature in the world. And that creature, even in the very throes of its villainy, destroyed the ring. Gandalf even telegraphed it: "Pity? Pity was what stayed Bilbo's hand... The pity of Bilbo may rule the fate of us all."
“The Illusionist”, with Jessica Biel and Edward Norton. Jessica Biel is not “what” you think she is!
*spoilers alert* There is a good movie called now you see me, the fumbling police or fbi officer is actually the lead of the magic group!
One not being said yet is The Life of David Gale
Great movie and great ending
I'm kinda disturbed that that movie has nothing to do with David Gale, a real university professor and political activist. The title makes it sound like it's biographical.
(SPOILERS FOR RED NOTICE WHICH IS AN AWESOME MOVIE!!!) It was when Hartley and the Bishop were working together and just using Booth to get to Cleopatra's third egg. I was NOT expecting that. I also wasn't expecting Ryan Reynolds to say, "WHAT THE FFFFFFFFFFF**K?!?!?!" in a PG-13 movie.
Well you're allowed one f-bomb in a pg13 movie, so it was a good use. Not the best one... that title goes to Wolverine in XMen First Class. XD
"Capricorn One": When the (real) spacecraft burned up in Earth's atmosphere and the astronauts realised that they are "dead" now.
That movie crossed a line when the government killed John Walker's wife IRL. Well, I mean Walker didn't do it, right? The glove didn't fit?
A movie called The Linguine Incident. Old movie from the 1980s starring David Bowie.
I can't find it now, but would love to share it with my wife.
Surprise! He planned on you killing him all along, so his sacrifice could conquer death and destroy evil. OK, it's the most ripped off plot twist of all time, but still a doozy.

Old boy. The original movie. When you see at the end that the main character is being punished for a rumour he spread as a teenager about a brother and sister having sex (in his defence, they were actually having sex). The punishment is letting him fall in love and having sex with his own daughter. Oh yeah and killing his wife and keeping him trapped for 15 years in a room. So yeah.
Harry Potter (whole story/series)... specifically right at the end when you realise Harry himself is a horcrux and therefore has to die.
Predestination, all of it!
When people found out Bambi was a girl
Bambi's not a girl though? Doesn't he grow up to take over as prince, and he meets Faline, the doe
I cant remember the name of the movie but it was your typical action movie with some soldiers racing to stop a runaway train with a nuke on it reaching denver. They failed and the city was destroyed
You know what's also good? The Others with Nicole Kidman. The whole time you think the house is haunted, and then you realize; it is haunted. But Nicole's character and her kids are the ghosts...
Omg. Not a horror story but! I about died in Something About Mary when Ted is on his first date with Mary and she sees his “hair gel” hanging from his ear. THEN she proceeds to use it in her hair making her hair stand up. Shocked? Yes? Laughed so hysterically, my abs hurt.
Who'd've thought that whatsherface would be such a rotten person until the bitter end?
