    My wife...

I was with my ex at the time and tickets for the show Hamilton were released in London for the first time (I’ve always wanted to see it!) So we booked the tickets, the show was a while away but I was just so happy I got tickets!

Fast forward to about a week before the show and me and my ex break up.. I gave her her money back for her ticket and I desperately tried to find someone to go with me to the show but no one was interested..

So here’s where my “coolest thing I’ve ever done” comes into it..

I have Aspergers, a form of Autism and it affects me in the way that I hate anything social and especially doing things, getting public transport or going places on my own, I get mad sweaty, disoriented and things like that.

The day came and I still had no one to go to the show with but for some reason on that morning I felt invincible,
I literally woke up and said to myself “you’re going to the show!” So I got up, showered and dressed and got the 30min bus to the train station which for most is not a big deal but for me was massive and then, for the first time ever, got a train on my own into London! One of the busiest cities in the world! I felt so good about doing it! I even went and visited Buckingham Palace before I walked to the venue of the show!
When I got to the theatre a lady who worked there asked if I was on my own which I replied yes and explained to her what happened and that I have the other ticket here with me and she told me that they would buy it back off me! So I wasn’t left out of pocket, I did the coolest thing I’ve ever done in my life and enjoyed every single second of it! The show was absolutely amazing too!

Ever since that day I have changed so much as a person for the better, I am so much more independent and I realised that sometimes you just to face fears to get the best out of life.

One of my professor's in Law and Justice courses said he came across the border illegally when he was a kid. Spent all of his childhood going to American schools and excelled in academics. He also made a point of helping out in his community. The local State Patrol Captain knew he was there illegally, but said he'd be honored if he'd apply to the Police Academy to become an Officer. So he returned to Mexico, was sponsored by the locals from the town where he grew up, came across again with legal papers and became a naturalized citizen. He was a State Patrolman until he suffered an injury to his knee in a shoot out. He is now a full-time professor and a consultant to the local police.

Was dating a guy that was in the military. We had, what I thought, was a great relationship. Turned out, he had a fiance back home in NJ. I went to track him down to confront him and was told he was in the local night club on the base.

You can't get in as a civilian unless you have a military escort. I explained my situation to three soldiers in line and they happily escorted me in. One of the soldiers, the only one of the three that was sober, asked for my number before I left. He called me everyday after that and we'd talk for hours.

Seven weeks later I married that man and I'm still married to him after 31 years! Best thing to ever happen to me!

Coolest... could also have been the stupidest. When I was in my early 20s on my way to New Zealand to visit friends, I was in Fiji, SCUBA diving for about a week. This is a very long story but the jist is that I met a Swiss sea captain/shipwright with a 72 foot, wooden, Polynesian-style sailing catamaran that he designed and built. We got to talking about sailing (I had grown up sailing and had some experience but nothing of this caliber) and he needed someone to help him crew the boat to New Zealand. I sailed around Fiji with him and a French Canadian girl for a few days and decided to cancel my plane ticket to New Zealand and sail there instead. It took 14 days because we hit some doldrums. We stopped off on a desert island filled with sea birds and saw some amazing things while snorkeling. One day, when the wind wasn't blowing, we jumped off the boat and swam with some whales. We sailed into the Bay of Islands and it turned out he was wanted by Interpol and I was questioned for several hours by customs before I was let go. I never found out what he was wanted for and he never displayed any shady behavior that I saw, but obviously it could have gone very badly. Still one of the most interesting people I've ever met and one of the coolest things I've done. Now I aspire to sail around the world with my husband, daughter and sister in law. So far the farthest we've gone on our own boat is from San Diego to Catalina Island (about 24 hours non stop).

We keep in touch and check on each other every year or two.
I am happy knowing that I will never experience love on that level again because many people will never get that chance.
Obviously this is subjective but I am comfortable knowing that I am lucky. I hope to find another love that makes me happy at this point in life, but I dont feel the need.

Scuba Dived in Cancun and almost died because of it! I was diving a shipwreck about 85 feet down(technically deeper than I am licensed to do) and there was a really strong current.

As I dove down, I found with each breath I was getting a spritz of seawater(for obvious reasons, the regulator is supposed to be airtight.) As I reached the bottom, where you can't just bolt to the surface safely, I started coughing as the water burned my mouth and throat.

Eventually, the coughing got bad enough it threw my regulator out of my mouth. Desperately, I moved my arm in a huge swipe and managed to grab my regulator again, shove it in my mouth, and purge the water with an intensified stream of air.

Honestly, not just one of the scariest, but also one of the coolest things I have EVER done. Although 10/10, would NOT recommend almost dying on the bottom of the ocean.

I've been intrigued by them since I was a teenager, but never thought I could make it through one, was scared about the limited sleep involved, among other things. But I went, stuck with the practice the teacher gave me, and ended up feeling fantastic by the end of the week. I've now done about 30 of them, plus dozens of shorter retreats and two months of practice at a Zen monastery in Japan.
