Hearing music I used to listen to in the past
When I listen to music from my past I can tell you exactly what was going on in my life when the song was popular. Kind of like background music to my life.
Photos of my childrens when they were younger.
When I get to visit the places where I used to live before.
Smells!
The smell of pollon reminds me of cycling in spring, fences lit up by radient hedge roses and the leaves finally growing back.
Smelling fried fat reminds me of going out to lunch with friends in small shops on cloudy days, when the buildings would fade into the sky
And best of all is the smell of an old friend!
when i see my aging mother
Bless both of you. It's a real shift in the universe if at some point there is a role reversal. I miss my mom so much. For some reason that was coming up in my thoughts so much today. What I did as she aged was I took "snapshots and videos" in my head purposefully of even the smallest of things, and moments. When I cook at the stove, in my head I see her sitting on her stool cooking dinner. Seeing her drive off in her golf cart to go visiting. Even watching her as she walked down the hall. It's the brain snapshots of the little things that you miss more than anything. Take a lot of pictures.
My postcard collection! My nan sent them to me since i was a baby, shes passed away now but i love looking at my lifetimes worth of postcards from her 🥰
Watching old movies and shows I watched when I was younger.
And watching the first episode of a long series after you finish it. The characters look so different and you feel like you watched them grow up.
rainy days
Speaking from a musician perspective, every time I hear or even just see a piece that I have performed before, it takes me back to when I played it.
When I see children going/studying in my old school.
80s references and classical Christmas music- my mom and I used to go to a yearly Christmas symphony
The forest.
Swimming in a pond on a hot day.
Hotdogs around the fire that evening, cold from the pond, warm from the fire, with fireflies all around.
I'm with you on this one. Reading this has taken me back there. Don't forget the marshmallows.
Smelling a box of Crayola Crayons or pencil shavings. It reminds me of drawing things as a kid. Crayolas used to be made with Beef Fat, and had a very distinct smell. They changed that to some kind of artificial substance a long time ago and it's not the same. Ditto with pencil shavings. They used to make pencils out of a type of Cedar (maybe some still do) but now a lot are plastic or cheaper wood.
Reading letters I used to send and receive from my cousins when we were very little.
The smell of a pizza restaurant. Not just the pizza. The old carpet that has absorbed the smell of pizza…and the spilled soft drinks, the occasional fires, etc.
The smell of Christmas. Once my dad was walking my brother and I to the bus stop before school and I hugged him and I smelt Christmas somehow. I don't know how to describe it but in May I smelt Christmas and I loved it.
The smell of concrete during spring
Video games is use to play as a teen
Food i haven't eat in a long time
A time without woke hashtag activism and "powerful" speeches,no tiktok,no "this must go viral" movement or prank. Some things just were more organic and had its own flow
Yeah, the good old days when some people could be as selfish, insensitive, bigoted, and misogynistic as they wanted, without any consequences. Sure do miss that. NOT!
Seeing a picture of the skyline of Dallas TX. Life was so very wonderful when I lived there. I miss everything and everybody, especially my wonderful nephew. Having to move away I missed so much of his life. 😔. My quilt. After my mom died I took many pieces of clothing of both hers and my dad's. I cut them into squares, and having never made a quilt before, still, I put all these squares together and made one. Each square has a significance all it's own. I love to run my hands over it.
The smell of funnel cakes. Every fair & carnival had them when I was a kid in the northeast U.S.
Listening to George Carlin. I had some great road trips plugging in the iPod and laughing the whole way.
I loved the controversy way back when he did the routine about the swear words you can't say on TV. It was a great thumb of his nose to the "establishment".
Playgrounds with, swings, and the "death by" merry go round, we were silly enough to play on.
Listening to bands I have seen live, brings back memories of when I went to concerts and music festivals.
Great memories of that. So many fantastic, legendary, blow your mind concerts. Paul McCartney, Rolling Stones, Elton John 6 times! All such fantastic memories. Smiling as I type this.
The sound of a tent zipper. Makes me think about camping with my family when i was younger.
Seeing spaces like abandoned malls where I used to shop as a kid or photos of old classroom that remind me of being in school.
Looking at old family photos. Most of my family lives far away or has passed on. Just seeing these photographs can bring back memories, smells, and much more that had been long forgotten.
The smell of certain foods remind me of my mother who passed away last year. Also, sometimes I'll see my niece and nephews with their phones and remember how much simpler life was when I was growing up.
Honestly just staring out into the night and just smelling the cold, clear air. It just makes me contemplate life and think of how far I've come (which honestly really isn't that far)
When my whole family used to go to the caravan park every summer. My kids growing up. Meeting my partner.
Well, this is ironic. I find an article about being nostalgic and run into Billy. Granted, this is an old article which makes sense because I haven’t seen you around in quite a while. So yeah. I guess that this is what makes me nostalgic. I hope you’re doing well Billy! You have a wonderful sense of humor and I miss getting to talk to you
Visiting ur native place & seeing how it's changed over the years.U miss quite some old things.
Few months ago I found my mp3 player from high school times. I’m 32 now so it was some time ago. There was A LOT of crying during listenig, some of those songs I Heard last time when I was 16-17.
The scent of Star Jasmine/Night-blooming Jasmine (I’ve heard it called both), which was the scent of my dearly beloved grandparents’ front stairs.
Weather. I'll go outside on a day with a particular kind of weather and it reminds me of some day in the past when the weather was identical.
Putting on my soccer boots and stepping onto the grass. I played a lot when I was at Uni and I made so many great friends.
I haven't played in ages because...you know...adulthood...but I always feel a wave of nostalgia whenever I gear up.
When you go to the doctors office and see the little bead rings we all used to play with as little kids
Uncovering Nintendo Cartridges every few years, the smell of a pine forest, music!
Music, old music, when I was younger (1st to 3rd grade), I used to live by the sea where my mom were friends with my friend's mom. There was karaoke, huge TVs, monitors with games, a PS4...live was good. I miss those days, now I'm crying
The smell of ketchup... French fries with frankfurters and ketchup = Childhood ski holidays!
Smells get me going. Love's Baby Soft, coconut tanning oil, huffing the kid's trickortreat bag
The sound of a ZX Spectrum game loading. If you know, you know.
Summer thunderstorms on humid days. They remind my of the days I spent with my best friends, having childhood fun, in and out of their garage playing.
The time you could joke about anything without causing any outrage. race, sex, handicapped people, dead people. a laugh is the best way to learn to coop with things.
how sad that thoughtlessness and cruelty is no longer acceptable. I DON'T THINK SO!
There was always a song I liked when I was around 5. Whenever I listen to it, it reminds me of my childhood.
When I see a group of people, with no phones, interacting with each other. Reminds me of the golden, answering-machine era of my youth.
Hearing a Spice Girls song or seeing a photo of them. Can't believe they first came out 25 years ago this week!!
Some movies take me back to my childhood. Specifically to happy or scary moments as a child.
Certain meals make me nostalgic and I think that's why I love cooking so much. Hopefully I'm making memories for others as well as feeding them.
Combine Harvesters. I grew up on a farm but we had to leave when my dad became too ill to keep working. When me and my brother and sister were little we would go off on our bikes to the fields being harvested and wait for them to come round. Our grandad drove the combine, my dad the corn cart. Takes me back to the long hazy summer holidays.
the smell of Play Dough , always take me back to Christmas at my mums house as my little brother always use to get it as a gift
Smell of my mum’s cooking from afar. It hits your nose right away and you know that your mum is at your place..
SPORE's music. It all f*cking slaps. Same goes for rollercoaster Tycoon 3 and Simcity Societies.
