Hey Pandas! What’s a television show or movie that you were sure was going to be awful, but turned out to be awesome?

"A series of unfortunate events"

I already saw the movie with Jim Carrey and I was really excited about the series. I turned it off because of the subtitles under the baby, but decided to give it one more chance a while later.

Turns out it's one of the most clever series I have ever seen, I loved it!

So good! They really got the feel that the books gave! Also I thought, when I first saw a small preview, that Olaf was teamed up with them and they were trapped in some garden maze or something lol

Peaky blinders

At first I thought it was just some very macho manly maffia action with a lot of blood, drugs and s*x serie. Well, it basically is but it's so well written, very good actors and beautifull filmed. Too bad there are no seasons coming anymore.

Will and Grace.
I was just switching channels on my television when I came across this sitcom and I thought it was awful but after watching the full episode, I watched it everyday.

Gravity Falls

It's a Disney show that's I guess geared more toward kids (though there were some moments I thought otherwise) but it's SO GOOD. I thought it would just be weird when my dad decided to randomly start it one day, and it quickly became one of our favorite shows ever.

It does have depth! My son and I used to watch it together.

Degrassi Junior High/High. I heard the other kids raving about it in school. The title sounded like it would be entirely French to me, and since I didn't have much of the same taste as the others in my class, I thought it was going to be like Dawson's Creek.
I decided to give it a try in the mid to late 90s when the seasons were rerunning. It was actually a really good show about learning life lessons and watching these teen around my age go through discrimination, getting in trouble, dealing with complicated issues. It's a little comparable to the Facts of Life, except the kids aren't living under the same room and the plots aren't contrived.
They used real young teenagers. Not adults posing as teenagers.
Some of the original cast is in the newer spin offs of Degrassi. The new spin-offs don't hit as hard. Likely because it's a younger generation than me and they're growing up with different problems. Still interesting, though.

I watched that for years.... Especially the original one in the 80s....and loved how it connected to the later series...

The Batman (with Robert Pattinson). Besides feeling pretty over-saturated with Batman to begin with, I’m not a huge Pattinson fan. But… I really liked it and I really liked him in it!

"Arcane"
Was sceptical at first but then it turned out amazing! Animation was great, the characters were well developed, the story was interesting and the music was awesome!!! Turned out to be one of the better shows I watched lately.

Ninjago masters of spinjitzu. Gotta admit that the first few seasons are really childish, but the season 3 finale and all the seasons after are amazing. 10/10 would recommend.

Terminator: The Sarah Connor chronicles. I love it for some weird reason, even with it's glaring plotholes, silly and illogical moments at times. It's closer to the original two movies than the sequels are, as per my opinion

GI Joe Sigma Six because I never watched anything GI Joe before. I had no interest in it or even know what it was. I just watched an episode one day just to see what it was. Now I love the franchise and it helped me discover new hobbies such as reading comic books. All thanks to a Saturday morning cartoon on 4Kids. GO JOE!

The Delivery Man with Vince Vaughn. Thought it was going to be a stupid, raunchy movie, but it was actually good. Pretty wholesome too

The Good Place.
A show about the afterlife in heaven piqued my interest.
So many twists and turns that I didn't see coming, and according to the podcast, many of the cast members didn't either.
I love it so much, I can't count the number of times I've watched it and learn something new each time.

Baby Driver. I thought it was the standard heist/getaway stuff with too much special effects - but then music happened.

A few

Demon Slayer. I saw a few memes but thought it’d have a slow plot movement. Super good! Shame only season one is on Netflix.

Wakfu! It’s a Netflix series (based off a video game) about a young Elyotrope named Yugo. When I first watched it, I was young and getting into Anime. I saw it and said “Bro I thought this was anime” but stuck around for a tiny bit. Needless to say I quickly loved it.

Creeped Out. Another Netflix series. Thought it was a ripoff of Goosebumps but it’s pretty damn good! Plus you get curious about the lore of The Curious

Dark (German Netflix series).

I watched the teaser and it didn't give much away other than it involved a teenager disappearing and had different time periods. Decided to watch it not having any expectations.

Wow was I surprised. The story is very intricate (which I love) but balances explaining mysteries while introducing new ones rather than just a massive reveal at the end. It was clearly written with a coherent vision from start to finish. It's just 3 seasons but if you watch it, this makes total sense for the show. Bravo to the show's creators!

Sex education on Netflix ;)
It turned out to be funny, real, taking many subjects in consideration and whatever subject was in there, could have happened to anyone.
I really hope there will be a next season.

Not me, but my parents were invited to screen a live taping of Hee-Haw before it was actually broadcast on tv (a long time ago obviously) and then had to fill out a form about their thoughts and opinions on it. My mom hated it and said it could not possibly ever be successful on tv. My dad absolutely loved it and predicted it could be really popular.

Disney’s Zombies. It’s a Disney channel movie about a town where zombies exist. The zombies are intelligent and highly sentient, basically just humans with green hair and pasty skin. But the town still segregates them and has a lot of anti-zombie laws and stuff. But the main characters freshman year of high school is the first day that Zombies are allowed to attend a human school (although it’s still segregated). The movie basically follows them overcoming prejudice and also falling in love because it’s Disney. There’s two of these movies, with a third one coming out on July 15th. The second one is about werewolves coming to the town, and the third is about aliens.

My sisters started watching these movies about a year ago. At first I was like, holy c**p, these are so stupid. But then they started to grow on me. Now I really recommend them, they’re kind of stupid but they absolutely grow on you and the songs are good.
