New Year's Eve 2020. My dog suddenly was sick around Christmas from unnoticed kidney disease and passed New Year's Eve. He was only 6 and the goodest of boys.

Christmas of 2018 my cousin had been crashing at my house for a few days due to homelessness. She spent her time there acting increasingly spiteful towards my life/relationship.

During my Christmas party she tried to sleep with my fiance. Lied and said I cheated with his brother. Claimed we were all planning to murder her, called the cops, and refused to leave my house. Here's the kicker: When the cops came they said she was acting irrational but I couldn't kick her out due to "squatter's rights" aka anyone who stays more than 3 days can't be removed. Thankfully she did leave and we haven't spoken since.

Thanksgiving day was the day my best friend said we would never be friends anymore. I hate her but love her for it because she was TOXIC!

If we're talking public holidays, probably Valentines day. It's supposed to be about love in the general sense not in the romantic sense, it's just commercialised nonsense.
If we're talking vacations, Borneo. When you realise that most of the wildlife isn't wild at all and can only survive in a handful of tiny sanctuaries and that the nature protection programs are just propaganda as deforestation continues, it kind of kills the mood.

The time my husband and I arrived at my parents' place to stay for Christmas and my mum talked about a traumatic event one time too many.
My husband was flabbergasted that she didn't even ask us how we were or how was our trip into town... With a maniacal zeal, she launched into her ongoing research into family deaths in the Holocaust.
I left the table to go unpack in the guest bedroom, then burst into tears. I grabbed our luggage and fled the house with my husband. My sister a few blocks away took us in.
I started staying at my parents' place again after my mother was put in a home because of dementia. My dad is now free to discuss his family's history and it's quite interesting.

I think three Christmases in a row, I ended up falling sick and vomiting with a fever. And that last year was with my family traveling inside of a museum. That sucked.

Christmas when I was eleven. My mother gave me one beautifully wrapped gift. It was a box of dead leaves. Some things you never get over.

Thanksgiving many years ago. My brother had been in the hospital a couple of days for exposure to methane gas. Wednesday evening, my Mom called to tell me he would still be in the hospital the next day (Thanksgiving Day), so we were postponing Thanksgiving dinner. Thursday evening, I found out he'd been released that morning and the rest of the family celebrated without even letting me know. It shocked me at the time, but honestly, looking back on the years before and since, it shouldn't have been a surprise.
