My first attempts at /transformative works/ was a certain series of British origin that I suspect was the first fandom of many, many other people who self-identified as living under rocks. Me enjoying writing and this fandom being enormous and mainstream, despite being vaguely disdainful of the Local Sorting System, I persisted. Eventually I joined social media because someone suggested I set up a blog to post all my lost plot bunnies.
I did not have time to become entrenched in fandom before I dropped THAT particular series like a hot potato. Unfortunately living under a rock and having Weird Social Skills makes more subtle forms of discrimination fly over your head like a paper aeroplane, and you can't read people's bad Twitter posts if you aren't on Twitter. My love for this series crashed and burned, but at least it was a learning experience?
I've since dug a small shelter from within with I may prod MHA (and commiserate over its less terrible but still present Issues) and fallen neck deep down a hole called "Project Moon". I am happier.
