This can be anything, from learning how to use a smartphone, to learning coding, 3d printing, Photoshop, etc.

I learned that by reading a car manual and watching YouTube you can do pretty much anything to your car that needs doing. Rebuilt my diesel engine with a little muscle power help from my friend, as I'm a teeny tiny older lady that needs a step ladder to access the engine bay! Never too old to learn a new skill!

Yep, saved THOUSANDS of dollars by DIY on simple fixes like master switches in the door handles, broken automatic door belts, knowing how to reset whatever can be reset! And I'm no mechanic, and have just a standard household toolkit. The most help I've needed was on rusted screws that refused to turn in my puny hands.

Ah, my favorite place to learn new PC techniques is here

    https://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000050.htm

Thanks to this site I'm now a more useful idiot than ever before. The link above teaches

How to create a link that opens a new web page window or tab

If you can put it into search words you can learn it on this site.

Have you ever tried to select and copy text from a web page where the text was a link or in some other way interactive? You can't just select the text because it wants to follow the link or pop up a message.

Well, I learned that if you hold the alt key down while selecting it, often it will ignore whatever controls are underneath and just allow you to select the text so you can copy it.

The back of an iPhone is like a “button”. If you go into settings->accessibility->touch->back tap, you can go from there! And with the shortcuts app there’s like endless possibilities, I made it so when I tap the back of my phone twice, it’ll send me to Google. And if I tap 3 times, it’ll send me to my messages. You can even make it send you to boredpanda, turn on dark mode, take a video, turn your brightness up, it’s crazy.

My mom taught me a bit of crochet when I was a young teen. Picked it up again when pregnant with my first with YT help. I have so many crocheted blankets from my mom, I can see she had zero patience for weaving in her ends nicely! I've had to put it down and pick it up again, based on my kids' maturity level. Makes me feel a tiny bit closer to mom

I learned how to program 3 remotes into one remote. My Fire TV is semi broken, so I put a Roku stick in it to stream and also have cable, which equals 3 remotes. Finally got all functions on one, but some of the buttons I had to use are kind of random, so I had to make a list of what each button does, and tape it on the wall, until I get used to it. And please, all you tech natives, stop rolling your eyes. I am an old lady and at least I'm trying. I learned and used at least 28 different software programs during my varied career so I am not entirely Jitterbug phone level. But what I have found is that if you take just 2 or 3 years off to take care of a relative, technology just runs on by you and doesn't look back.

I learned that ships' propellers are designed using the Betz limit, which is only really appropriate for harbour tugboats and the original tug-of-war contests against paddle wheels. Aircraft propellers are designed using the Froude equations, which account for moving through air or water, and would give at least 20% better efficiency.

The rings on a jack determine the output-who knew!!

One ring means mono playback. This basic plug only delivers one channel of sound to both the left and right earbud. Two rings mean stereo. Three separating rings means you’ve got two stereo pins, and a microphone pin.

Switching to electric outdoor power equipment for my lawn service. Growing up I learned to start, refuel, maintain, and repair ICE equipment. Starting all over. I have never had to worry about a dirty anode on an ICE lawn mower. I still don't have the skills needed to describe all the new problem solving that I have been doing over the last 11 months. Refueling an electric mower is not as simple as refueling an ICE mower. Nor is storing and transferring the fuel. But I can say that I have not yet "spilled" any of the new fuel on to the ground. 🤣
