Everyone has something controversial to say about food. Let me know what you think in the comments.

Not really an opinion, but I just can't consume any meat that is not lean. Any fatty bits, tendons, it's over for me. My gag reflex activates just by looking at it and it's impossible for me to consume it. Literally just writing about this makes me want to puke.
LIVER is disgusting, the smell, the texture, everything about it is horrible. Growing up in a poor family, meat was either turkey or chicken hotdogs or beef liver. You had to clean your plate, so I choked it down, but always felt ill afterwards. To this day, I don't like the texture of pork chops or some steak cuts because it's a foul bite like the spongy liver!
This may bring the hate. But please don’t downvote an opinion that does no harm. While French cooking does great things with combinations of Eurocentric ingredients, none of it has blown me away. The Cajuns, Thai and Vietnamese have won my stomach and my heart.
Peaches in cottage cheese. Or just peaches. Or just cottage cheese. But together...who in the world ever thought "hey let's put fruit in lump dairy"!?! I'm guessing many of you have never had or heard of, but here in the south east of USA, it can be an option for breakfast, lunch or dinner side. The combination of textures and taste are hands-down appalling for me.
For me, it would be that limes are better than lemons.
I love both, but I agree that there's just something magical about limes.
I can't stand mushrooms. Not necessarily the taste - I can deal with mushroom sauce just fine - but I feel that the textures vary between "feathery" and "the plastic coloured things with jigsaw edges that they put down on playgroup floors that you can smell from ten metres away and inexplicably always have bite marks in them". I do not enjoy these textures in the slightest.
My Mom was the same, but she couldn't stand the taste either. Growing up her family loved them and back then they had the "can't leave the table until you finish your plate" attitude. Even decades later, if she thought long enough (remembering the smell/taste/texture) she could make herself throw up.
Different brands taste different
Probably that food snobbery (particularly on the internet) seems to do nothing but generate conflict. Particularly when one region / chef claims some kind of divine right over mixing ingredients together to make a dish (paella, I'm looking at you!) or blithers on about people putting pineapple on pizza being 'wrong' (like it's going to stop those of us who love it from doing it). So yeah, that. Love food, don't just use it as an excuse to get into arguments with people :)
This needs to be higher. If you don't like something, that's fine - we all have different tastes. No biggie. But there's no excuse for being hateful or mean to others who disagree. It's just food, people.
Mine would probably be that I absolutely LOVE "plain" cereal. By plain I mean, puffed rice/puffed wheat without any sweeteners at ALL. Everyone says it tastes like bland, dry cardboard but I love the stuff.
Same with rice cakes, I love them but people say it tastes like cardboard (unless you get a flavored kind) and the texture is like styrofoam.
I also love plain tofu if I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered to properly marinate/sauce it.
Multigrain bread that's more grains/seeds/nuts than "bread" is another love of mine. I lightly toast it in the oven, then crumble it over yogurt and fruit with a drizzle of honey and cinnamon.
I love "savory" oatmeal too. You can season it anyway you like. Butter, onions, garlic, veggies, beans, etc. Can even turn it into a fan fried or oven baked "oat cake" too. Kinda like a cross between a pancake and a latke (potato pancake).
I'm... odd.
Onions! I love the flavor it gives food, but i can't eat raw onions or even ones that are mostly cooked. They gotta be so done that it no longer has a 'crunch' to it.
Also water chestnuts for the same reason
I love onions-- raw, deep fried, sauteed, in soup, on sandwiches. Sadly, onions do not like me.
"Boneless wings" are for adults that don't want to admit they like chicken nuggets
I like them but it bothers me they call them "wings". Just call them "bites" or something.
I am surprised no one else has said this already ...... pineapple DOES NOT belong on pizza.
No.Nope.Nada.Notgoingtodoit.
I don't like mushrooms. I can stand them when they've been pulverised and made inherent in sauce, for instance, but while they retain some semblance of their physical selves? I can't stand the texture. I feel that it varies from feathery/slimy around the gills to "that plastic foam flooring with jigsaw edges that smells of plastic at ten metres and always inexplicably has a bite taken out of it". I don't enjoy any of these textures.
I also don't enjoy things that "melt in the mouth", unless they actually physically turn into a liquid (chocolate, ice, etc.). My mother likes to tell me that things are lovely because they melt in the mouth and offer me a taste, and I like to politely decline.
We used to collect wild mushrooms when I was a kid. That must have been when I learned to like them. A pizza with mushrooms and anchovies is the best!
I think it is okay to eat meat from animals such as dogs and horses. There is no biological reason not to do that.
I've been in prison, so I'm not entirely sure I haven't eaten horsemeat.
Biting string cheese. I know you're supposed to string it but I don't really see the point.
I love stringing it. I have no idea why. It's like bubble wrap -- I just can't help myself.
Pineapple is great on pizza. I know I'm going to hell so don't bother telling me.
I love it, too. With canadian bacon or sausage. Think melon and prosciutto pairing…. you can’t go wrong. Was Obama’s fave in college.
I do not enjoy eggs. To me they are chicken mucus. 🤢
Sorry but this one made me laugh. I love eggs, but do agree that looking at them raw in a bowl or handling them can be gross. I'm stealing "chicken mucus" as a description now.
After the dreaded appointment with the diabetic nurse she now knows that I’m just plain weird and hopeless. I love bread but if you put butter on it or make me a sandwich with it I will not eat it. Dry bread only please. And I have never been able to tolerate set meal times. If I’m not hungry I don’t eat. If I do it makes a reverse appearance! And only raw veggies too. This pickiness has been the cause of many family arguments.
I can't handle set meal times either. I remember once I hit high school, for some reason I couldn't eat breakfast anymore like I used to. I kept trying for awhile, choking down a bowl of cereal or a banana, etc. but I felt nauseated forcing myself so I just stopped. Turns out that I can't eat soon after I wake up. I need at least 1 - 2 hours wait time. I could handle coffee, tea, milk, etc. just fine but not actual food. My schools Special Education class started selling muffins and orange juice as a fundraiser. I'd wake up at 6am, get off the bus around 7:20am when they started selling and sure enough by then, my hunger had kicked in. These days I only eat "meals" 1 - 2 times a day. I snack when I need to, small amounts.
No allergy involved--I just don't like shellfish. Crab, lobster, shrimp, scallops (ugh! the worst!)--please take my share. Fish? Yes. Shellfish? No.
Pineapple is great on pizza. I know I'm going to hell so don't bother telling me.
I grew up in Europe, but now live in the US. Everyone here in 'merica thinks that it is disgusting that I dip my fries in mayonnaise.
My daughter-in-law is from London When she's over for dinner doesn't matter what we are having I set a side of mayo by her plate ;)
I hate mint.
I don't really like mint either not in chocolate or ice cream at least
Circus peanuts are good.
I think it's a genetic thing, I get it from my father.
Horse is a perfectly reasonable substitute for beef, we just don't like the idea because horses are idealized/romanticized and cows aren't.
Rabbit/Squirrel is a good substitute for chicken in soups and stuff.
I absolutely hate avocadoes. 🤮
That I love cottage cheese, which is just another name for "curds and way". And, I don't think anyone should be harvesting octopii. They are smart, have emotions, dream, and supposedlly have an actual soul, which I think every animal does anyway, and that it is horrible to boil live lobsters.
I think Mac & Cheese made with cauliflower tastes great. On the other hand, my mother's "real" M&C recipe included crushed salty chips to go over it and that was even better!
My closest friends: One has celiac disease, so no glutens.
One has a nut (and quinoa!) allergy (epi-pen and ambulance-serious), so no nuts, or nut oils
The third pal is allergic to soy...which is very stealthy, in almost everything. (She always carries Benedril in case of accidental exposure.)
I am lactose-intolerant, unpleasant to be around if exposed, so no dairy.
Rodney is heart patient on very severe sodium restrictions.
Finding a restaurant where we can all relax and enjoy a meal together is like mounting an expedition to another planet.
A friend of mine can't eat gluten, dairy, onions, chocolate, citrus, or broad beans. Poor girl
I've stopped eating it in recent years but my dad and I used to eat Stroganoff sandwiches. We'd take Hamburger Helper Stroganoff, spoon it onto a piece of white bread, fold the bread over the pasta, and eat it.
My dad picked up some other things that look/sound pretty bad but are actually tasty from the inmates when he was working out at a prison.
In prison, wraps are magic, and ramen noodles are the filler for everything.
Okay so I know it might sound kind of weird but ketchup with broccoli. It is AMAZING. No matter how weird/gross it sounds it is actually really good. TRY IT.
Dried squid and coke. Growing up in Japan in the 60s and 70s, we didn’t have popcorn as an option at movie theaters. Our go-to was dried squid and coke. I still eat dried squid when watching movies at home. Usually have to sit by myself, tho.
Mine is an inner controversy- there are far too many foods I love but can't eat!
My husband shoots deer, like other hunters he re-names the deer venison. I've brainwashed myself from my truth which is I find the entire thing repugnant and secretly hate meat but don't speak up because I'm too lazy to feed myself/cook vegetarian and I don't want to hear his criticism, self-blah blah blah, mean-ness. I'm disappearing into a box I'm not meant to...I'm shrinking, concertina-ing
I'm going to suggest some form of counseling if possible. You shouldn't have to hide who you are from him. I don't know your circumstances but I hope they get better for you.
I love cereal after it’s been sitting in milk for a few minutes and isn’t crispy any longer. And I find it weird that the majority of people have the opposite opinion.
I love crisp corn flakes, etc but hate Captain Crunch when first poured. It tears the hell out of the roof of your mouth.
Pineapple does not belong on pizza. That’s an argument waiting to happen.
BBQ Pork that has veins, no thanks. Yogurt that's been sitting that has the foul liquid on top. The little white part of an undeveloped embryo in a raw egg. Coffee grounds in your cup.
Here's a weird opinion, I think that people need to have a balanced diet, but the balanced diet should be what they like. For me, it's Pasta (carbs) apples (veggies) seafood (protein). Not the steak potatoes and carrots
That I put Ketchup on Mac n cheese. It's just like putting it on eggs. It's yummy.
Don't get butt-hurt donut lovers but I'm just going to say what I need to say...
Donuts... especially glazed donuts... are just disgusting! I don't know what y'all are tasting but I gag just smelling them.
I hate peanut butter... It's too oily and I don't get the fuzz...
At some point I discovered that most other people don't put ketchup on ham. That was a surprise. You don't know what you are missing.
I've grilled ham and put BBQ sauce on it, but I hate catsup, and don't use it for anything.
Peanut butter and pickle sandwich
The main character in my favorite book series (the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evonivich) is forever eating peanut butter & pickle sandwiches. At some point I'm going to give it a go, but I never think of it until it comes up in one of the books
I very rarely drink soda, but my absolute favorite is Moxie. It seems like people either love it or hate it, but I am 100% in the “love it” camp. If soda wasn’t so unhealthy, I’d drink it by the case. And to make it more controversial, I actually prefer diet over regular.
had to give up on soda, so now for that much needed fizz fix, i drink seltzer water
Yogurt makes almost all salty dishes better. Try adding plain Greek yogurt to pasta it is perfection.
Peanut Butter, Mayo and Cheese Sandwiches - Awesome!
My dad used to eat these. I prefer just peanut butter and cheese sammiches instead.
Froot Loops + Chocolate milk =
AMAZING
I don't like coconut. But I love foods cooked in coconut milk
Peanut butter and syrup on pancakes/waffles/french toast!
Peanut or almond butter, syrup and slices of banana on all the above!
creem cheese and jam is a good sandwich, pb and j is overrated
All condiments suck: except for mayonnaise.
I've noticed as I've gotten older that my tastes are still changing. When I was little, I didn't like mayonnaise, onions, brussel sprouts or even steak. As I got older, I ended up loving all of them but these days, I only have steak maybe 2 - 3 times a year. I have to really be in the mood for it, otherwise I don't want it.
I don't enjoy eating at all, and I won't eat unless I'm hungry. But surprisingly I'm gaining weight even though I'm not eating much. I tried counting calories and it looks I need less than a thousand a day to not gain weight. I wonder why I'm like that
Well your body probably thinks your are living in a survival situation were food is scarce. So I believe that when you eat, your body makes sure to not waste any nutrients from the food and stores them for later. I am basing this on something I read that said people who go on diets regularly, cause there body's natural weight to shift to a higher weight after ending the diet. The reason is that the body thinks the diet is actually starvation and reacts by storing the more food just in case the person faces another starvation situation. This is why diets are bad and actually make you fatter in the long run once you stop them.
I can't stand cooked fruit. Yes, even the beloved apple pie.
I'm can enjoy baked goods where a pureed fruit or fruit juice has been mixed with other ingredients and baked; that's fine. But actual chunks of fruit? It gets all slimey and squishy and gross. Blech.
Even fruit that's been warmed squicks me out. There's an insistent part of my brain that firmly believes fruit should be both raw and room temperature or cooler, or else it's "wrong."
I feel like the only person in the world that doesn’t like cheese cake. Also it’s not cake why is isn’t it called cheese pie?
I don't get the salted caramel phenomenon, I like my caramel unsalted, thank you very much.
Mnmm. I think it mostly the salty/sweet thing. Plus the salt cuts some of the richness of the caramel. But hey to each their own. (More salted caramel for me!)
Homemade chai with cardamom and some fennel seeds. NO cinnamon! Ever!
YES!! Never cinnamon! I learned from Indian friend’s mother the combination of cardamom and fennel seeds. So easy to make, delicious and comforting.
I know I am going to get SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much hate for this, but I can't do like just straight cheese. I can do it on nachos, or pizza, but like not just by itself. I'm weird. :)
Onions are disgusting and not meant to be eaten. What other food is so noxious that just being in it's presence makes your eyes water? Basically like an allergic reaction, or your body's defense against this abomination. The taste, smell, and texture is revolting. In addition to being toxic to cats and dogs.
Seafood = S**t
Maybe you never had great seafood? People cook so much of it incorrectly.
I saw the question and I knew what it was gonna be... Pineapple on pizza!
