Not really an opinion, but I just can't consume any meat that is not lean. Any fatty bits, tendons, it's over for me. My gag reflex activates just by looking at it and it's impossible for me to consume it. Literally just writing about this makes me want to puke.

I completely relate to this. I know people who actually like the fat or gristle on meat and it makes me sick just to watch them consume it.

LIVER is disgusting, the smell, the texture, everything about it is horrible. Growing up in a poor family, meat was either turkey or chicken hotdogs or beef liver. You had to clean your plate, so I choked it down, but always felt ill afterwards. To this day, I don't like the texture of pork chops or some steak cuts because it's a foul bite like the spongy liver!

This may bring the hate. But please don’t downvote an opinion that does no harm. While French cooking does great things with combinations of Eurocentric ingredients, none of it has blown me away. The Cajuns, Thai and Vietnamese have won my stomach and my heart.

Peaches in cottage cheese. Or just peaches. Or just cottage cheese. But together...who in the world ever thought "hey let's put fruit in lump dairy"!?! I'm guessing many of you have never had or heard of, but here in the south east of USA, it can be an option for breakfast, lunch or dinner side. The combination of textures and taste are hands-down appalling for me.

I can't stand mushrooms. Not necessarily the taste - I can deal with mushroom sauce just fine - but I feel that the textures vary between "feathery" and "the plastic coloured things with jigsaw edges that they put down on playgroup floors that you can smell from ten metres away and inexplicably always have bite marks in them". I do not enjoy these textures in the slightest.

My Mom was the same, but she couldn't stand the taste either. Growing up her family loved them and back then they had the "can't leave the table until you finish your plate" attitude. Even decades later, if she thought long enough (remembering the smell/taste/texture) she could make herself throw up.

Probably that food snobbery (particularly on the internet) seems to do nothing but generate conflict. Particularly when one region / chef claims some kind of divine right over mixing ingredients together to make a dish (paella, I'm looking at you!) or blithers on about people putting pineapple on pizza being 'wrong' (like it's going to stop those of us who love it from doing it). So yeah, that. Love food, don't just use it as an excuse to get into arguments with people :)

This needs to be higher. If you don't like something, that's fine - we all have different tastes. No biggie. But there's no excuse for being hateful or mean to others who disagree. It's just food, people.

Mine would probably be that I absolutely LOVE "plain" cereal. By plain I mean, puffed rice/puffed wheat without any sweeteners at ALL. Everyone says it tastes like bland, dry cardboard but I love the stuff.

Same with rice cakes, I love them but people say it tastes like cardboard (unless you get a flavored kind) and the texture is like styrofoam.

I also love plain tofu if I'm feeling lazy and can't be bothered to properly marinate/sauce it.

Multigrain bread that's more grains/seeds/nuts than "bread" is another love of mine. I lightly toast it in the oven, then crumble it over yogurt and fruit with a drizzle of honey and cinnamon.

I love "savory" oatmeal too. You can season it anyway you like. Butter, onions, garlic, veggies, beans, etc. Can even turn it into a fan fried or oven baked "oat cake" too. Kinda like a cross between a pancake and a latke (potato pancake).

I'm... odd.

I don't like mushrooms. I can stand them when they've been pulverised and made inherent in sauce, for instance, but while they retain some semblance of their physical selves? I can't stand the texture. I feel that it varies from feathery/slimy around the gills to "that plastic foam flooring with jigsaw edges that smells of plastic at ten metres and always inexplicably has a bite taken out of it". I don't enjoy any of these textures.
I also don't enjoy things that "melt in the mouth", unless they actually physically turn into a liquid (chocolate, ice, etc.). My mother likes to tell me that things are lovely because they melt in the mouth and offer me a taste, and I like to politely decline.

After the dreaded appointment with the diabetic nurse she now knows that I’m just plain weird and hopeless. I love bread but if you put butter on it or make me a sandwich with it I will not eat it. Dry bread only please. And I have never been able to tolerate set meal times. If I’m not hungry I don’t eat. If I do it makes a reverse appearance! And only raw veggies too. This pickiness has been the cause of many family arguments.

I can't handle set meal times either. I remember once I hit high school, for some reason I couldn't eat breakfast anymore like I used to. I kept trying for awhile, choking down a bowl of cereal or a banana, etc. but I felt nauseated forcing myself so I just stopped. Turns out that I can't eat soon after I wake up. I need at least 1 - 2 hours wait time. I could handle coffee, tea, milk, etc. just fine but not actual food. My schools Special Education class started selling muffins and orange juice as a fundraiser. I'd wake up at 6am, get off the bus around 7:20am when they started selling and sure enough by then, my hunger had kicked in. These days I only eat "meals" 1 - 2 times a day. I snack when I need to, small amounts.

My daughter eats dried seaweed she buys at the store. She tried it once at someone else's house and I couldn't believe she liked it as she was only ten years old and also a junk food fanatic. That started her eating only healthy foods. Now, 12 years later, she only buys organic. And before she moved out with her boyfriend, she would come home with some very, in my opinion, strange food. There is still a package of poached lotus slices in the fridge, and a cupboard full of things with names like dan dan noodles, spirulina powder you add to any drink, tuna infusions (what the heck??), kelp jerky, eggplant wraps, poached ginkgo nuts. I could go on and on, especially with vegetables, but I will be kind and stop now, lol

Well your body probably thinks your are living in a survival situation were food is scarce. So I believe that when you eat, your body makes sure to not waste any nutrients from the food and stores them for later. I am basing this on something I read that said people who go on diets regularly, cause there body's natural weight to shift to a higher weight after ending the diet. The reason is that the body thinks the diet is actually starvation and reacts by storing the more food just in case the person faces another starvation situation. This is why diets are bad and actually make you fatter in the long run once you stop them.

I can't stand cooked fruit. Yes, even the beloved apple pie.

I'm can enjoy baked goods where a pureed fruit or fruit juice has been mixed with other ingredients and baked; that's fine. But actual chunks of fruit? It gets all slimey and squishy and gross. Blech.

Even fruit that's been warmed squicks me out. There's an insistent part of my brain that firmly believes fruit should be both raw and room temperature or cooler, or else it's "wrong."
