Hi Pandas! I was wondering if any of you in the BP community have any interesting stories to share with all of us. Tell us, what is the scariest thing you have ever witnessed? Whether it is something you have heard of or something you have seen for yourself, it doesn’t matter as long as it's a good story.

So please feel free to dig deep and share the scariest stories you know with all of us here in this thread!

Quite a few years ago, my Dad slipped and fell through one of those rubber covered rope ladders while he was playing with me and my two younger sisters on a playground. He broke his already crooked nose, broke his shoulder, sliced his shoulder open, and cut his leg super badly as well. He was bleeding a lot. Me and my sisters tried to get him out, but we couldn't. We saw a mother and her two sons pull into the playground parking lot and walk towards it, so we yelled and cried, "Please, you need to help our dad, he's really hurt..!"
She took one look at him, ushered her children back to the car, and didn't say a word. All she did was glare at us and our dad as he was bleeding.
There was a road with a lot of cars nearby, so we went near there instead, waving our arms and yelling that our dad needed help. No one pulled over.
Finally, my Dad mustered up the strength to tell me that his keys were in his back pocket. We grabbed them, unlocked the car, and called a family friend who could pick Dad up. I wanted to call 911, but my dad insisted he didn't need that.
The family friend drove him to the ER immediately after performing some first aid. I was crying for days. I thought my Dad would've died that day.
His shoulder still can't move right anymore. He can't do anything like he used to.
That's the scariest thing I've ever seen. My Dad almost dying, trapped on the playground, no one helping for no reason, and he never even shed a tear. I'll never understand how he kept himself together for so long.

Climate change, and the fact that nobody is willing to take even small actions to address it when only immediately drastic action can save us.

The American healthcare system, and how any individual is just one surprise away from bankruptcy/homelessness and most of them can't even see it because it's too difficult to admit to themselves that they're not in control.

How ridiculously fragile humans are and we can be alive one day and dead the next with no warning.

How common decency and science have become political issues, causing an increase in disease, hate crimes, poverty, etc and it seems like every one of the big powers is moving further in that direction every day.

I could keep going, but I think I need to get away from all of this for a while.

At 16, seeing my 13 year old brother unconscious and lying in a puddle of blood. Blood had splattered onto the walls in the next room. He had been fighting with our dad, and our dad was crazy. We never knew if he fell and hit his head, or if dad hit him with something. My brother was okay, but we thought he was dead. I can still see it like it was yesterday. My sense of humor helps me cope with those kind of memories.

Getting the unexpected news of the death of a loved one. My world perception then shifts in a 90 degrees angle, that I did not know was possible. The first time this happened was the scariest time of my life and it took years to get used to the new world order, without that person but with the knowledge that people can just fall away and the world continues.

That our over use of antibiotics has lead to bacteria becoming more resistant to them, and that we are on the brink of having many strains of bacterial infections becoming almost uncurbable. Such as the recent cases of a super strain of staph infections in some parts of the world. Also that because of the anti vaxxer movement many diseases like polio, rubella, scarlet fever, mumps, and others have a chance of not only returning but becoming stronger as well.

When i was 12ish i came home from school and neither my mum nor my older brother were there.
i looked everywhere. Then i saw A LOT of blood on the floor of my brothers bathroom. I was so fricking scared. and nobody to ask, what happend (none of us had a mobile phone at that time)
my mum came home later that evening and explained it. my brother had cut his arms open (not the veins, but all the skinn on his forearms) and was in the hospital.
i learnt that day that he was depressive and borderline and couldn't cope with the recent separation of our parents.
i still sometimes remember the blood on the floor.. almost 20years later

I was awakened by a call one morning that my 16 year-old son's car was on fire. I didn't know if he was okay or what, only that some woman from a McDonald's he passes on the way to work had called my husband to tell him and my husband had called me. Most frightening 15 minute drive of my life to get to where his car was.

I saw the charred remains of the car still in the road surrounded by fire trucks before I saw him and I cannot tell you how intense that moment felt. I was terrified and disoriented and just wanted to find my kid.

Somebody had managed to get him out before the fire engulfed the car and I found my son broken-hearted and scared, but not hurt. The car was a 1969 VW Beetle and the engine just lit up at an intersection. Since the engine is in the back, he hadn't noticed it was on fire until another driver came to get him - he said just in time, too. It went up fast. The lady who had called from the McDonald's was a manager there and she had brought him into the restaurant and made sure he was okay, which was a huge relief to me and I'm glad she had been there when he needed somebody. I don't even want to consider what might have happened had that other driver not been there.

    1) 2020
    2) I used to have a sleeping disorder. One night I couldn't fall asleep. I looked at the clock; it was 1:00 AM and I had been trying to sleep for 3 hours. I had that uncomfortable feeling, like someone was watching me. Then I thought I heard footsteps in the hallway- and my bedroom doorknob twisting. I dived under the covers and stayed like that for a long time, and when I finally came out, I saw the shadow that looked like a little girl with a dress and long hair on my wall that I had been trying to ignore for years. It scared the hell out of me.
PERHAPS MY WORST ONE: When I was 7, my dad had seen a wasp nest hanging right over our driveway and he decided to go fix it himself. My mom and I were chilling in the family room doing stickers together, when- you saw it coming- my dad came running in the house, flailing his arms and screaming, with a wild expression on his face, ripping his shirt off as he ran to the bathroom. I got up and sprinted towards the stairs- not fast enough to miss seeing my dad slapping his chest and my mom's horrified face. I locked my bedroom door and didn't come out for hours. Hence my fear of bees.

A woman left her stroller and baby in my store, and then just calmly walked away and didn't come back. Worse, an effort was made to return them to her- were they going back to a safe home? I stayed next to that stroller. My boss told me to go elsewhere and I refused. I still wonder what happened to the baby.

Death. Ik it’s obvious but I’m a teenager and I’ve never experienced a family, friend, or pet death ever. It scares me because I don’t know how it feels. I don’t know how to cope with it, and I’m afraid that I never will. How do people get over their grandparents dying?? How do people adopt pets again when they had one that died? When I’m not in the right headspace, I think about when and what my last time with a loved one will be. Things that I don’t know scare me.

I made an account just to let you know my experience with the death of my brother. I was 15 and the news shook me like nothing has ever shaken me before, I was a wreck for two straight years. I couldn't really function, it was like being constantly in the middle of a panic attack. I lost my mind and all of my friends but I focused on not wanting to follow in his footsteps (suicide) for fear of leaving someone else feeling the way I felt. Everyday it gets a little teeny tiny bit easier...I eventually found a man who helped me come back to earth, and function in the "new normal" it's been ten years and I'm okay now. There are still hard times but I get through them. Nothing can prepare you for the way it feels--that's just the awful truth, but you find a strength you never knew you had inside. I really hope this gives you a little perspective on what its like. Should you ever go through this just know that there's someone else out there feeling exactly the way you do and it makes a big difference to reach out to them.

    So a bit of background first;
I have insomnia, i'm terrified to be alone in the dark, and I have had sleep paralysis.

When I was little I would have frequent nightmares. In these nightmares I was always running away from this monster( think beauty and the beast but 10x scarier and he has a sword). I could never let the beast get to me or he would do horrible things to me. When I first had sleep paralysis I saw the beast walk into my room. He walk around my bed and stood over me. The he disaperd.
If you have ever had sleep paralysis you know how terrifying it is, especially if you were always afraid of it as a child.

There is this fast-acting flesh eating disease called necrotizing fasciitis. Those who get it often describe "flu-like" symptoms and if its not caught quickly your soft tissues are literally devoured by the disease until the toxin forces you into sepsis and you die. The only treatment is aggressive debridement and/or amputation in addition to IV meds. People have checked into the hospital and have woken up to find limbs amputated in an attempt to check the spread.
